0% chance of that happening.Might just be a way for them to limit his attractiveness on waivers so they can get him on the practice squad.

Tom Brady and all the starters played into the 2nd quarter last night. BJGE got three straight cracks from inside the five to cap the starting offense's TD drive. What we saw last night in the first quarter will be New England's starting offense in 2011. BJGE and Woodhead are the starting RBs and that is not going to change any time soon.I am not sure why people think otherwise.Last preseason game is used by Belichik to test out the "maybe" guys... give them one final shot to perform before deciding who has to be cut. If Ridley didn't suit up, Bill must be confident enough in him that he's not even a question mark... he's made the team. Probably time to ink him in as the week 1 starter.
Not sure who the 5th is after Ridley, BJGE, Woodhead, and Vereen.Well someone has to go to the practice squad. Are they really keeping 5 RBs?
Faulk? Not sure who the 5th is after Ridley, BJGE, Woodhead, and Vereen.Well someone has to go to the practice squad. Are they really keeping 5 RBs?
It means Brady will be listed each week with a shoulder injurywhat implication does this have if any for him moving forward?
Read something the other day that Faulk may be headed to PUP. Not sure if he's practices yet this year.Faulk? Not sure who the 5th is after Ridley, BJGE, Woodhead, and Vereen.Well someone has to go to the practice squad. Are they really keeping 5 RBs?

I can't see the bolded. For years, even when the Pats shuffled lead backs (Dillon, Maroney, Fred Taylor, etc.), they used Kevin Faulk as a third down back and the back in passing formations. When Faulk went down last year, Danny Woodhead claimed that exact role. The Pats run so many different formations, many of which call for that receiving back (Faulk or Woodhead), that Ridley is unlikely to be an everydown back any time soon.My guess is it means he's on the team and his 'injury' was well timed to allow others to showcase their talent in a final attempt to make the team.
BJGE is a fan favorite. Which means, in a nutshell, he's not very talented but his stellar work ethic endears him to Pats fans. It also means a kid like Ridley, whom BB valued much higher than any other team at draft time, has a great chance of taking his spot by midseason after looking great in preseason action with the first team.
It's all about pass-pro. If he can do it, he's looking like a better RB than the Lawfirm already. Add to that the fact that he can catch well and you've got a guy with a chance at being an every down back in a potent offense.
Stash him.
Likely to start season on PUP - LINK and may end up on IR depending on his knee.Faulk? Not sure who the 5th is after Ridley, BJGE, Woodhead, and Vereen.Well someone has to go to the practice squad. Are they really keeping 5 RBs?
For any one of those years, there was no RB on the roster that could fill all roles.Ridley looked solid as a receiving threat when he was in, which can never be said for Corey Dillon or Antoine Smith. Taylor was well past his prime and barely played, so he's out of consideration. What we're left with is a bust (Maroney) and a journey(old)man (Morris) with less speed & elusiveness than Faulk and no other viable options for an every down back. Faulk was a stud for a long time and no additional RB was needed. Now he's done and I'm not sold on Woodhead as a long term replacement in the Faulk role. Obviously it's too early to call anything with Ridley, but he has shown enough to say what I said - he's a guy with a chance at being an every down back.I can't see the bolded. That reads like a wish. No way is Brady and the entire starting offense out there for a full quarter+ of action and at the same time BB would be trying to protect his surprise mythical secret rookie RB weapon. That is not how NE has operated in the past.BJGE and Woodhead are the guys and you shouldn't expect anything other than an injury to change that.'Flying Elvis said:My guess is it means he's on the team and his 'injury' was well timed to allow others to showcase their talent in a final attempt to make the team.BJGE is a fan favorite. I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying Ridley is the starter. I'm saying he's made the cut (as though there were any question he wouldn't.)Based on what I've seen of Ridley and what I know BJGE to be, I'm saying stash Ridley. If BJGE gets injured you may be right otherwise I don't see it happening. The important things to know about BJGE is that he runs hard, doesn't take losses, moves the chains, knows all the protections and never fumbles. BB isn't taking that out of the lineup unless he is forced to. Ridley ran well against backups in two preseason games, that isn't enough. Even if BJGE goes down I wouldn't bet the bank BB goes with the rookie, his MO is to go with the vets he can trust.I don't see Ridley as a particularly valuable backup or handcuff in a redraft.I think you misunderstood me. I somewhat agree, but they did use an un-drafted rookie running back who did not even go through the Patriot's camp last year quite a bit. As someone has pointed out earlier, BB is not afraid to use rookies. If BJGE gets injured you may be right otherwise I don't see it happening. Last year they lost Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk to injury. And Woodhead wasn't a rookie.I somewhat agree, but they did use an un-drafted rookie running back who did not even go through the Patriot's camp last year quite a bit. that's undoubtedly true, but most of our drafts are before real games are played.Lots of random speculation and baseless assertions in this thread. The RB jobs belong to BJGE & Woodhead until they lose them, and I doubt they lose them except for injury. All this talk about either Ridley or Vereen being better than either won't be proven out until real games are played.
Yah, I guess what I'm saying is don't draft Ridley or Vereen assuming they will take BJGE or Woodheads jobs by midseason, neither has proven a whole lot at this point.that's undoubtedly true, but most of our drafts are before real games are played.Lots of random speculation and baseless assertions in this thread. Probably just a bad hair day then.I asked around about Ridley. Although there has not been anything officially said about his status, he has been seen around the locker room. He was not on crutches, had no bandages, and was not seen limping. He was not favoring any part of his body, yet neither he nor anyone else will say anything about his injury. I'm shuked as to what it could be and what the implications will be. We will know more when they announce the 53 man roster tomorrow I suppose.
Thats an interesting take, but you might have missed that Ridley has missed a week or more of practice last 10 days; just like Vereen did earlier.Last preseason game is used by Belichik to test out the "maybe" guys... give them one final shot to perform before deciding who has to be cut. If Ridley didn't suit up, Bill must be confident enough in him that he's not even a question mark... he's made the team. Probably time to ink him in as the week 1 starter.
IMO, I don't see any way Ridley should be considered starting material at this point. He played well playing with the second unit agianst third stringers. IIRC, he never played at all this preseason with Brady and the regular starters on the first team offense. I would be very surprised if Ridley played a big role to start the season. In the past, BJGE played the role of this preseason's Ridley. He did very well in games that didn't matter and earned himself a roster spot but it took a few years to get regular playing time.Thats an interesting take, but you might have missed that Ridley has missed a week or more of practice last 10 days; just like Vereen did earlier.Last preseason game is used by Belichik to test out the "maybe" guys... give them one final shot to perform before deciding who has to be cut.
