Steve Smith - CAR (1 Viewer)

Seriously?

Most who drafted him probably got him in the mid to late rounds. Rookie QB...production tailed off the last few years, etc.

Can this continue or is AZ's defense just that bad? Anyone see the game for better insight?

Looked good. Newton looked a lot better than I ever expected him to look. One note for you is that Smith barely missed toe tapping his second foot in bounds on a 41 yard catch after the 2 TDs. Arizona isn't a world beater on defense, but Carolina's passing game could be good this year. Smith, Olsen/Shockey and a handful of decent other WRs all looked like they were good targets. I don't think Smith is as good as when he was top 5 a few years ago, but this may be the best set of TEs/WRs surrounding him, so defenses can't key on them like they could before. I think he could easily be productive the rest of the year. Wouldn't be shocked to see him finish as a WR1 in most leagues. I completely missed the boat on him.

watched the whole game..Newton looked incredible...threw several perfect deep passes to Steve Smith.. like 3 or 4.. a 40 yarder got called back...

Newton is definitely the "Real Deal".. and Steve Smith will definitely benefit from this guy

I grabbed Smith in the 9th round when trying to add some depth at my thin WR corps. There's no way anyone in their right mind would have played Smith over Bowe but that may not be too crazy of a start if the chemistry between Newton and Smith is there.

:goodposting: I know it is only game 1, but Newton looked great, period. Living in Charlotte, I am pretty hopeful that he can continue to progress. He certainly didn't look like a rookie and he was way more accurate than I think anyone expected.People mentioned Carolina as being the #1 seed in the Luck lottery, but they should have won today in Arizona. They looked like the better team, but a couple long TDs and they couldn't quite come back to tie it. I am sure Newton will have some bad games, but I don't think Carolina will have the #1 pick.

Got him in the tenth round and put him in to start based on just bad luck at WR this year (had Mike Thomas and Austin Collie in front of him).

Thrilled. If I win this week it will be due to him.
