Steve Smith to Dwayne Jarrett: (1 Viewer)

From Rotoworld:

In the locker room Wednesday, Dwayne Jarrett was speaking with reporters. Steve Smith approached the interview and asked Jarrett "Instead of talking to the media, why don't you go watch some film?"

Jarrett at first laughed, then Smith followed up by saying "Seriously," in a strong tone. Jarrett has been active for one game in his rookie year. It's not a good sign that he can't pass Keary Colbert, who has struggled as a starter.

I have a mancrush on Steve Smith. He is a badass on and off the field, but in a good way. Seriously.

steve smith wasnt watching film was he? he definately should have after last weeks game....big bully that guy is :lmao:

Can't blame Jarrett one bit for not wanting to watch film with Smith. I bet Anthony Bright called him after he was drafted and warned him about it.

The trick is never to ask to have the tape rewinded, obey this rule and he won't retire your ###

Are you guys talking about the bad ### that got pushed around by Deangelo Hall?
On Carolina's next possession, Hall let his temper and Steve Smith get the best of him.The two stars had been jawing at each other the entire game, with Hall holding the upper hand in the first half. However, on the first play from scrimmage after the Falcons went ahead, Delhomme threw deep down the sideline for Smith. Clearly beaten, Hall had no choice except to drag down the receiver for a 37-yard interference penalty.

Apparently frustrated, Hall gave Smith a shove to the upper chest on the next play, drawing a 15-yard personal foul. Then, with Carolina apparently forced into a field-goal try after Delhomme was sacked, Hall drew an unsportsmanlike penalty for continuing to jabber at Smith.

That gave the Panthers an automatic first down, and they quickly punched it in for the tying TD, Delhomme's 5-yard pass to Jeff King. Hall even got into it with his own coach, Bobby Petrino, before being dragged away by a couple of teammates.

You're right, Steve Smith is the nice guy.

"I wanted to leave the room the second I walked in there,'' Byrd said. "When I saw him his face was covered, it was like a sheet below the eyes. The nose was covered. Half the face was swollen and his left eye was closed ... you'd have thought there was a bulldozer in Steve's fist.''

I  Steve Smith

If I were Jarrett, I would have punched SSmith

squarely in the throat.

This sort of thing should be taken care of

behind closed doors.

And your ####### would've gotten killed by half the team followed by your release. That guy is the heart and sole of the Panthers. And the only reason they wouldn't let Smith woop Jarrett is they wouldn't want Smith to break his hand on that punk's face and have to miss a game because of some waste of a uniform....How do you know Smith hasn't talked to the guy behind closed doors already and that didn't work? OBviously the guy has underachieved. Steve Smith is a proven all-star. When he talks Jarrett should shut his mouth and listen....

These USC WR's of late have all been complete busts (so far) -- M Williams, Jarret, S Smith and the QB who threw them has not looked very good either.
S.Smtihg (NYG) Has only played in 1.5 games. You can't call him a bust because his shoulderblade got broken vs. Green Bay. Don't you think he should plays a few more games before the Bust tag is on him?I don't want to put a bust tag on any rookie WR only 8 games into their career.

You don't embarrass a teammate like that in front of the media.I don't care who you are. It will tear at the fabric of the "team", eventually.

Last I checked Steve Smith is the team. Jarrett so far is a punk. I highly doubt that this is the first time Smith or someone else has tried to motivate him. If calling the kid out in front of the media doesn't work, I'm sure they will try something else. I just don't see this being the first thing you do to try to motivate a guy.Besides, what the hell do you know about keeping the fabric of the team together? You just recommended Jarrett punching the best player on the team. Oh, I'm sure that would've kept the guys in the locker room good and tight with the rook. I can just see the Marine like Code Red administered by the rest of the team the next time they head into the showers....

 That doesn't mean it gives him carte blanche to be a jerk, which he definitely was being in this case. That's pretty poor leadership there. I know he ultimately means well, but there are good ways and bad ways to go about getting your point across.

Ron Mexico your comments are comical. Jerry Richardson considers Steve Smith THE leader and face of the franchise. You really think anyone in that locke room is going to give a rats ### what a rookie bust thinks/feels vs what the heart of their franchise says? Get a clue bro. Everyone in Carolina loves Steve Smith.

My statement about Jarrett punching Smith in the throatis an exaggeration designed to show the possible emotionsa disparaging comment from Smith in front of the media could evoke.I'm all for Steve Smith using any and all means necessaryto motivate a punk like Jarrett, but in the lockerroom, not in the spotlight of the media..

I think Steve could blast the entire offense IF he wanted to. He never gives up, no matter what the score, no matter what the circumstance. He throws his body around like he's impervious to injury, and deserves to say whatever he feels. And in this case, Jarrett SHOULD listen, as he's had almost an entire year to learn the offense, and STILL isn't catching on. Kid is either dumb, or lazy.

Like I said, how do you know they a haven't already tried a number of things to try to motivate the kid? Not putting him on the active roster for almost half the season seems to be one motivational ploy that didn't work all that well. I guess since that didn't work the coaches and Jarrett's team mates just threw up their hands and decided it was a lost cause until Steve Smith came up with a plan B to motivate the rookie by calling him out in public. I'm sure they the whole organization just washed their hands with motivating their multi-million dollar investment once the benching didn't work. It's not like the coaches are paid to motivate. Or that teams like to win and team mates motivate each other to try to win. It's not like Defensive and Offensive Captains or coaches give pep talks before and during the games to get the most out of their players. And since I'm sure you have spent many years in a pro locker room it's easy for you to stand back and say what Steve Smith said was inappropriate. Me, I'm going to go with the vet here and assume that other methods to motivate the punk haven't worked. You go with the throat punching thing an tell me how it turns out....

Name me the player that put up these stats his rookie year:15 games 1 game started10 receptions154 yards0 touchdowns

I'm taking this story for face value while you are adding assumptions, when you add these assuptions, of course the story takes on a whole new meaning. I'll stick to the throat punch without the added assumptions until I hear otherwise..

Your making just as many assumptions that nothing has been done behind the scenes. It is a nice little circle you created so you can bash on Smith. How are you supposed to know if the players/coaches have tried the "proper" behind closed doors motivational efforts? You can't because when/if they did stuff behind closed doors you would not know it, so you just assume they were never tried and attack Smith. Surprisingly weak attempt to hide a hatred for Smith is my guess.

And behind closed doors Jarrett could very well not pay attention during film sessions and meetings. We don't know because it is behind closed doors.

The organization drops Keyshawn with the assumption Jarrett would be ready to start by mid season at the least. He isn't even active. I am sure the organization has tried many behind closed door methods to get Jarret up to speed.

Maybe Jarrett should have said to Smith " Watch film? In case you haven't noticed we don't have a QB that can throw the ball. What's the point?". What could Smith say to that - LOL?

Did I miss something??? Why is Jarrett a punk??? Did he do something that says he's a punk? I'm not trying to be an ### but I havent really heard anything about Jarrett so this comes as a surprise.

If I'm not mistaken SSmith was a snotty little brat about 3-4 years ago. I actually remember him costing Carolina a game against the Texans for kicking a player after the play on a potential game winning drive. Now he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just because he helped your fantasy team win a championship doesn't make him a great guy.

just my .02

My question is what was Jarrett speaking to the reporters about?? He hasn't done anything to warrant conversation . . .

I'm sure Jarrett popped in an old USC tape and told Steve "

HEY LOOK AT ME, MAN. I MAKE PLAYS, MAN. CHECK YOUTUBE, MAN. PEOPLE ARE STILL VIEWING COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS THERE SAYING D'ANGELO WILLIAMS AND CEDRIC BENSON CAN PLAY IN THEIR 2ND AND 3RD YEARS IN THE NFL."

Truth be told, I don't think Jarrett knows how to watch film ...that doesn't involve him.

I think it's safe to say Smith can probably get away with a few minutes away from the film room.

I got the impression that he was a punk long before he made it to the Pros. I don't remember why, but I know I did, so this doesn't suprise me.

Just traded Steve Smith for Frank Gore. I figure a RB can get out of a funk better than a WR can get a garbage QB to throw to him.

a voice of reason.

I love this move by Smith. Should get in the kids head and push him.If getting busted out in front of the media doesn't do it, he'll never be anything.
