Steve Smith to Dwayne Jarrett: (1 Viewer)

I miss the days when football players were tough, both mentally and physically. It is a sad state we have reached when we worry about hurting a players feelings by making a statement in public that is probably true. Sorry we hurt anyone's feelings.

Add PC to the host of skills football players need to be masters of.

:football:

(Wanted the puking smiley, but he doesn't exist here)

Who would've thought that LenDale White would be the most consistently productive player out of that group? :lmao:
Reggie Bush has been rather consistently productive. Norm Chow was the true star of those teams, and most Trojan fans will now readily admit it.

If I'm not mistaken SSmith was a snotty little brat about 3-4 years ago. I actually remember him costing Carolina a game against the Texans for kicking a player after the play on a potential game winning drive. Now he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just because he helped your fantasy team win a championship doesn't make him a great guy. just my .02
a voice of reason.
 And let me get this straight. Smith punched a teammate because he asked to rewind film? That sounds like a doushebag to me, and I've owned Smith many times.

Not really. That was 5 years ago when Smith was younger, and Smith took Anger Management classes for his temper back then, and has pretty much been a changed guy since. I think it's nice watching someone mature and form into a nice person. I guess some people don't like to see that, and prefer bringing up something negative the person did years ago.

Obviously [Jarrett] has underachieved. Steve Smith is a proven all-star. When he talks Jarrett should shut his mouth and listen....
Jarrett hasn't underachieved. This guy was pretty far down the wish list this draft. I think he's doing about what many expected...at least what the other 31 teams that didn't draft him expected.

Seriously, would it really help? When David Carr is your QB, it doesnt even pay to show up. How many balls did Smith catch last week with Carr in the game?

0?

Thanks for the tip Steve.

That was back during Fox's first year of coaching for the Panthers. Smith has come a long long way since then in maturity. There are lots of things people have done in the past they regret. Why don't you judge Smith on the man and player he is now.

Not that I care or have a vested interest in this discussion, but then how come Steve Smith gets a pass because "he's come a long way since then in maturity" but Dwayne Jarrett, who's likely at the same stage mentally that Smith was 5 years ago doesn't?

Have I said anything negative about Dwayne Jarrett? No, I haven't. However, is it not common sense that Jarrett hasn't been around long enough to show maturity? Steve Smith got plenty of bashing back when he was a hot head.

So you're defending Steve Smith's actions in relation to what, exactly? Isn't the jist of the thread and the Smith backers pronouncing that he's matured so much since the early part of his career? So how is it that Jarrett doesn't get the same benefit of the doubt? Or maybe you think he does...I'm not singling you out necessarily. I just don't see how some can defend Smith's actions and say that he's matured, when he was a much bigger ##### than it appears Jarrett is at like stages of their careers (although granted, Smith likely had a far greater drive than it appears Jarrett has).

If I were Jarrett, I would have punched SSmithsquarely in the throat. This sort of thing should be taken care of behind closed doors.
And your ####### would've gotten killed by half the team followed by your release. That guy is the heart and sole of the Panthers. And the only reason they wouldn't let Smith woop Jarrett is they wouldn't want Smith to break his hand on that punk's face and have to miss a game because of some waste of a uniform....How do you know Smith hasn't talked to the guy behind closed doors already and that didn't work? OBviously the guy has underachieved. Steve Smith is a proven all-star. When he talks Jarrett should shut his mouth and listen....
You don't embarrass a teammate like that in front of the media.I don't care who you are. It will tear at the fabric of the "team", eventually.
Last I checked Steve Smith is the team. Jarrett so far is a punk. I highly doubt that this is the first time Smith or someone else has tried to motivate him. If calling the kid out in front of the media doesn't work, I'm sure they will try something else. I just don't see this being the first thing you do to try to motivate a guy.Besides, what the hell do you know about keeping the fabric of the team together? You just recommended Jarrett punching the best player on the team. Oh, I'm sure that would've kept the guys in the locker room good and tight with the rook. I can just see the Marine like Code Red administered by the rest of the team the next time they head into the showers....
Are you Smith's girlfriend or something? Relax alice.

Steve Smith: "Instead of talking to the media, why don't you go watch some film?"

Chuck Norris: (laughs)

Steve Smith: "Seriously"

Chuck Norris: (heads to film room)

Huh? I've only stated what is true in response to someone talking about how Smith was 5 to 6 years ago. He has matured since then. Is that not true? Of course it is. You need to read what exactly I have responded to. I haven't said anything about Smith and Jarrett's interaction.

The point is an established vet is trying to get the rook to improve his own game for the benefit of the team. So what Steve Smith wasn't mature the first moment he stepped in the league. What rookie doesn't have maturity issues, I'm sure Muhammed had some words for Smith as he grew into his role and even Keyshawn. Jarrett should take his panties off his feelings are hurt by this.

Agreed. But there are some in here that seemingly forgot how Smith was (and likely still is) perceived by his peers and are holding him up on some sort of pedestal. Sure, the guy is now the face of this franchise but lets not pretend that he's a saint while at the same time viliying Jarrett.

I don't think Smith is perceived by anyone as being a punk anymore. Nobody is pretending Smith is a saint, but he is a nice guy now, and very much a team player. The guy plays with more heart than anybody I have ever seen. He paid his dues back when he didn't have control of his temper. Maybe he sees his old self in Jarrett, and he is just trying to keep him on the right path. I see him giving his team encouragement all the time on the sideline, especially with that rookie Ryne Robinson.
