Steve Smith will NOT be a top 10 wideout at the end of the year... (1 Viewer)

Why are people even arguing this guy's inane point that "Seattle did a pretty good job against him" in holding him to 5-33?

EVERY WR in the entire league had a game where they were held to these numbers or below. Cleveland "did a pretty good job" against Chad Johnson and held him to 2 catches for 22 yards.

That's not even a sensible point.

Smith will not be tripled this year for long with Drew Carter streaking down the opposite sideline and KJ roaming underneath. Add in Foster and Williams out of the backfield and there will be some major weapons that will have to be defended.
I know you don't like Keary Colbert, but all reports out of training camp have stated that he is playing awesome. That surgery he had on his foot over the offseason seems to be paying off.

In point per reception leagues, Torry Holt is the unquestioned number 1! Take a look at Steve Smiths monster stats last season compared to Torry Holts stats over the last 3 years!!!!!!!

Steve Smith

2005 Season:

- 150 targets

- 103 receptions

- 1563 yards receiving

- 12 tds

Torry Holt

2003, 2004, and 2005 Seasons:

- averaging 158.3 targets over last 3 seasons

- averaging 104.3 receptions over the last 3 seasons

- averaging 1466.3 yards over the last 3 seasons

- averaging 10 tds over the last 3 seasons

I will take Torry Holt all day over Smith! A lingering preseason hamstring injury could hinder Smith's production this year! Smith is also a marked man after what he did last year. Holt over Smith 2006!!!
I can't say I disagree. Torry Holt is my number one WR this year.
In non-PPR leagues?In PPR leagues, I have Holt as a top-3 WR.

In non-PPR leagues, I like Smith better than Holt (if Smith gets healthy) b/c I like double digit TDs from my #1 WR. I also like Moss, Harrison and Owens as much, or more, than Holt, Smith, and CJohn - I think you really can not go wrong with any of those 6 WRs as your WR1, however.

The riskiest WRs in the top-8 WRs are Fitz and Boldin b/c we really don't know how the pass distribution will shake out in AZ yet - esp, with the addition of Edge. BTW, I LOVE Fitzgerald - have loved him since college and been on the bandwagon 4evah and would take him as the #3 WR in any scoring system, but I recognize he has risk involved with a selection that high.

hmmm looking more and more like a possibility every day...and you guys thought i was crazy....

Jake Delhomme = tunnel vision.

Steve Smith = ultra-talented

If Steve Smith goes sans injury he is the best fantasy WR.

To me, the only issue is that big IF. Personally, I'll happily take a shot on him in the mid 2nd round.

-- Steve Smith Wants More Money? --

The Tampa Tribune reports Panthers WR Steve Smith, who led the league in catches and receiving yardage in 2005, skipped the four preseason games with a strained left hamstring. Now he has missed the first two meaningful games with a strained right hamstring. Rumors are filtering out of Charlotte that Smith is healthy enough to play but is disgruntled with his contract situation. "Steve is a great football player - he proved that to everybody last year," HC John Fox said. "He's a guy we prefer to have out there, but the reality is he's not. When he's ready, he'll be in. Right now, he's not ready."

:coffee:

NE can offer a nice home for him to rehab that hammy. I think they'd be willing to pay him more than they offered Branch.....
