Jim Fassel, watching the Giants shut down Brady & Company --------->

Ron Rivera?! the same guy who continually got outcoached and was let go by Chicago and wound up as a LB coach in SD!?Spags was brilliant! I do think NY pays him BIG bucks to keep him around, ala Dallas with Garrett..Spags star sure is rising. Hard to believe he'll be a head coach before Ron Rivera; who was the first Eagles assistant to really seem to be on the path.
Spags won't stick around IMHO. No team is going to match Snyder if he wants his guy, and it's a team Spags knows really well, and has a ready made staff in place [something to consider if he's going to take a HC job this late in the offseason]. The Garrett analogy is a flawed one because it's clear Jones views Garrett as the future head coach in New York. There's no way Coughlin is going anywhere anytime soon, and it's all but impossible to imagine Spags' star will ever be as bright as it is this moment.Ron Rivera?! the same guy who continually got outcoached and was let go by Chicago and wound up as a LB coach in SD!?Spags was brilliant! His 4 DE set will be imitated in 08Popinski said:Spags was great this year, but it's not like the Giants were searching for talented pass rushers.

My thoughts exactly. It's pretty apparent that Snyder wants a puppet and it looks more and more like Fassel is more than happy to be that guy. The only way I see Spagnuolo winning any points w/ the Redskins is if during his entire interview he does nothing but talk about how great Dan and Vinny are. This is kind of funny to me as a Redskin fan. I'm still convinced Snyder wants to hire Jim Fassel. He almost did about 10 days ago and then backed off due to massive public opinion against the hiring. I think he was waiting for the resistance to Fassel to die down, and has gone through other interviews since that time mostly for show. I think the Spagnuolo interview also was mostly to be for show, and to open a door to a guy they may want to talk to again in future years. Now that Spagnuolo's defense held down the Patriots in front of a huge audience, there's real pressure on Snyder for the first time to hire the guy.I like watching Snyder squirm.
The bolded part is the only part that's right.Spags will have his pick of teams next year, why would he go to a team that's not built from the inside out, an owner who consistently trades picks for free agent busts and who's team is constantly in salary cap trouble, and then if you don't mind all of that, you go into a place where your whole coaching staff is picked for you.
Why would you do that?
A bird in hand...Spags has the chance to go to a team he knows well, for lots of $$$$, coming off a playoff appearance even though it's young QB was hobbled. Considering most job openings come when woeful teams are looking to rebuild, I hardly think it's as easy as "I'll get a better offer next year."Spags will have his pick of teams next year, why would he go to a team that's not built from the inside out, an owner who consistently trades picks for free agent busts and who's team is constantly in salary cap trouble, and then if you don't mind all of that, you go into a place where your whole coaching staff is picked for you.Why would you do that?

That thought has occurred to me too, however the life of an NFL head coach seems too short to be willing to give away a year in building your team and coaching staff. He'd practically be starting over from square one in 2009 if he made any major changes to that staff.I think most of the staff are on one-year contracts only. So Spag could come in and coach with these guys for a year, then bring in his own guys next year.
And if he doesn't take a head coaching job now, he'd be back at square one in 2009 anyway. That thought has occurred to me too, however the life of an NFL head coach seems too short to be willing to give away a year in building your team and coaching staff. Square one in terms of building, but not square one in terms of the patience and track record with his team. Ask Cam Cameron how fragile that can be (not that I expect a 1-15 performance from the 'Skins in 2008). Again, maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't, but I think we can agree that this is far from ideal. And if he doesn't take a head coaching job now, he'd be back at square one in 2009 anyway. That thought has occurred to me too, however the life of an NFL head coach seems too short to be willing to give away a year in building your team and coaching staff.
