Stevie Johnson just doesn't get it (1 Viewer)

You'd think he learned from before. Nope, he decides to have a premeditated celebration by writing Happy New Year on his undershirt and showing it off after a score. He's been benched since then.

What could have possibly been going through his mind when he did this BEFORE THE GAME knowing full well it wouldn't end well.

:wall:

I'd like to keep him in Buffalo because we have a real shortage of NFL-caliber WRs, but Johnson is dumb player who comes up very small when it matters most. He needs to grow up. Of course, he's a young guy so maybe he will.

It said Happy New Years. This is ridiculous. Yeah maybe he shouldnt have done it but it is stupid how pathetic the league is. And did anyone notice that when NE scored Hernandez high stepped in and taunted a Bills DB and got nothing? They at least need to keep in consistent.

Between being an uptight league, and not being allowed to play defense, the NFL is getting harder to watch each week. When a backup QB is putting up 480 and 6 TDs, I think around 10 QBs over 4,000 yards and 2 for over 5,0000, it starts getting a little old

Completely irrelevant. Gailey specifically told him to knock it off, else he would be benched. He went through with it anyway. He is.a clown with a bad case of the dropsies. Bye.

He should've taken lessons from Holmes, at least fake like you care about the team until you get paid. Then act like a ##### and put yourself ahead of the team.

Of all the problems with players in the NFL, this probably ranks around 13431481237546127842th. I agree the league is pathetic when it comes to things like this.

I don't think many are arguing that the rule itself is silly or that the league is over the top with this. The point is, the rule is there, there's nothing ambiguous about it, and they guy planned this ahead of time knowing what the consequences would be and still decided it would be a good idea. My son had more common sense when he was 3 years old than that line of thinking.

True. On the other hand, if you want to see the rule changed, it will probably only happen when people start getting upset at how the NFL handles this issue. So you want to see players continue to test boundaries when it comes to this.

Blind Bias much?

Was he flagged for the " Why so serious? " comment on his shirt last year?

Agreed, after hurting his team earlier in the year I thought he had learned a lesson. Nope, just goes ahead and hurts his team (and my FF team!) again; grow the hell up ########......

You're incredibly odd.

Gailey had even made a team rule after the Jets game that any player that got a penalty for excessive celebration would get benched for the rest of the game.

So he absolutely KNEW the consequences and STILL did it. So he WANTED to get benched.

What a jerk.

No, but he was fined. So he definitely should have known better (and I'm a Stevie fan).

I find this refreshing. The athletes always give god the credit but never the blame.

:goodposting: In my fantasy league we have small rosters, everybody has superstars at every position with more on the waiver-wire; it is becoming pure luck now and with almost no skill, to field a winning team.

I saw the headline that Stevie did something stupid today to get benched. I clicked the link ready to see something pretty out there. When I saw what it was, all I could think of is how stupid the teams and league are being about minor things like this.

he probably figured it was a meaningless game, so why risk an injury.
And now he's more likely to get the fk out of Buffalo. I think Stevie knew exactly what he was doing and this was a brilliant move on his part.
:lmao: Your statement makes even less sense than Stevie's antics.

He has played hurt all year. If he really wanted out of this game, he would have sat out due to injury (he has a few to choose from) and no one would have thought anything of it. Every GM in the league has to cringe at this behavior and will use it against him in negotiating a new contract.

Good for gailey. I wonder if Stevie misses out on a 1k yardage bonus. That said, this will blow over in a couple weeks.

I think he wants out of that city, not that game. He wouldn't be able to give Gaily a big *middle finger* from the bench sitting out due to injury. And yea, of course GMs will attempt to use it as leverage against him in negotiations, but he'll still get paid. His game on the field outweighs his endzone antics... it's not like he has any off field issues... he acts like an idiot when he scores a TD occasionally. Big whoop.

I dunno. He'll still get paid, but not as much. Do you think he'd intentionally cost himself $? A guy that acts like an idiot when he scores a TD will cost your team games. I do think it's looked at as a potential big deal.

You haven't paid attention to this issue at all this year. He has said repeatedly (before the season and throughout) that he wants to stay in Buffalo and has initiated negotiations for a new deal multiple times. That's not the actions of a guy that wants out of the city. If he wanted to leave, he simply would not say/do anything and sign somewhere else in the off-season... instead of doing something that lowers his market value.

In the end, does it really matter NO FUN LEAGUE???
Silly end zone dances are fun?Sorry, but I love the league cracking down on the asinine antics of guys like Terrell Owens, Steve Smith, Chad Ochocinco and Steve Johnson.

Perhaps he's changed his mind now as the multiple negotiations he's initiated have gone nowhere. I don't really see how this incident lowers his market value any. He scored a TD, got a flag for excessive celebration and got benched by his coach. I think the vast majority of GMs will look past that and look at his football skills (of course they'll use it as leverage in negotiations with his agent, but just as a negotiation tactic/ploy).... we'll see though.

I am not going to slam Stevie Johnson, I'd much rather praise players like Barry Sanders and John Riggins, they had class and a respect for the game that few players have today, but some do. One of the biggest TDs in Superbowl history and look what Riggins does with the ball after he scores:

Riggins TD

Doesn't bother me. Maybe writing it on his shirt motivated to get a touchdown even more.

Chan Gailey's press conference today did not bode well for Stevie's future in Buffalo. When asked if he wants Stevie back, Gailey hesitated and then said "yes, with stipulations."

I wouldn't necessarily take that as indicative that they don't want him back. Stevie has never complained about or clashed with the coaching staff. The converse isn't necessarily true, of course. But who is going to replace him? This team couldn't even fill the #2 receiving spot.

He's a knucklehead, but he's a knucklehead that got continuously open against Revis twice this year. Bottom line is he can ball. now is the time to buy.

I think there are several guys that are just fine as #2 and #3 WRs. I thought Nelson was fine when he was healthy. Donald Jones was pretty decent too before he got hurt. Even Martin looked pretty good the last few weeks. And Easley is expected back of course.

I don't think any of them are #1s by any stretch, but I think their depth is actually pretty good. They just got hammered by injuries this year at the position. (that's not even mentioning Parrish who got hurt again)

There's a big difference between Riggins and the other guys mentioned.
