been wondering the same thingI've seen 2 preseason games now and all the QB's have green stickers on the backs of their helmets. What gives?
I googled and this is from a PFT post:Ill throw out a wild guess and say its just for designation of the QB helmets with electronics... probably testing something new and/or different with the make up of it and want to be able to see them from afar.
GREEN DOT HELPS REF TRACK WHO HAS AUDIOOne of the new things we noticed during last night's Hall of Fame game was that each of the quarterbacks had affixed to the backs of their helmets a small green dot.NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells us that the sticker is a new device being used to help officials confirm that only one player on offense is wearing a helmet with a radio receiver from the coaching staff.
Equating a sticker to a device just seems wrong....GREEN DOT HELPS REF TRACK WHO HAS AUDIO

So, if a team plans to put two quarterbacks on the field at the same time, one of them must change helmets before entering the game.

Yeah, I guess that's what I was asking... is it really that big of an issue that the NFL has to address it with something that looks so stupid....Could they have found an uglier color for the sticker? Get the NFL's uniform police on this...
They're testing all variables because they are considering letting 1 defensive player have audio. They need a way to control that, and using the current system to test that control is the easiest way to go about it.Is this really that big of an issue that the NFL had to address it?GREEN DOT HELPS REF TRACK WHO HAS AUDIOOne of the new things we noticed during last night's Hall of Fame game was that each of the quarterbacks had affixed to the backs of their helmets a small green dot.NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells us that the sticker is a new device being used to help officials confirm that only one player on offense is wearing a helmet with a radio receiver from the coaching staff. So, if a team plans to put two quarterbacks on the field at the same time, one of them must change helmets before entering the game.
Not yet, but give them time.at least the NFL isnt letting Verizon sponsor this...i mean i could see it now the "can you hear me now" guy following the QB all over the place
Well what's the difference anyway? If one guy has a radio, why not all of them? Back when they put the radio in the QB's helmets they were supposedly going to put them in the WR's helmets too so they could hear the snap count over the crowd noise.I agree why not an NFL logo sticker so that it dosen't stand out so much? Nobody else will have a sticker on the back of their helmet, so why does it have to be puke green.and is it really an advantage to have 1 extra guy on a team having the play broadcast in his helmet?I could see if the whole team had it, and they could run the hurry up offense....but come on.
Apparently some of the teams that have QB's as holders were being a little sneaky and using the audio to call last second fake FG's if they saw something from the other team.Is this really that big of an issue that the NFL had to address it?GREEN DOT HELPS REF TRACK WHO HAS AUDIOOne of the new things we noticed during last night's Hall of Fame game was that each of the quarterbacks had affixed to the backs of their helmets a small green dot.NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells us that the sticker is a new device being used to help officials confirm that only one player on offense is wearing a helmet with a radio receiver from the coaching staff. So, if a team plans to put two quarterbacks on the field at the same time, one of them must change helmets before entering the game.
If they're doing this, I would assume there was some sort of issue last year or somebody complained.I'd be interested in hearing that story...Is this really that big of an issue that the NFL had to address it?
How would this impact that? They could still have the holder with audio as long as he was the only one, right? And doesn't the audio shut off automatically with like 10 seconds left on the play clock?Apparently some of the teams that have QB's as holders were being a little sneaky and using the audio to call last second fake FG's if they saw something from the other team.
No audio helmets on special teams. QB's are supposed to switch. Also FG teams do not huddle, so you could look at how the other team lined up on you and still make the call in time. How would this impact that?
