I'm inclined to say yes, but it's pretty hard to say until we see him play this year. Players often tend to hit the wall all at once, and he's played at such a high level for so long that I think that will be the way it is with him. Even more troubling is that the Giants have a tremendous amount of young talent to replace him with at DE, which can only grease the wheels for his exit from NY.
Well if you drafted him late you've got nothing to worry about. He's always been a high tackle guy. I struggle to see him collecting 15 sacks but 10 seems very realistic. I don't know if your league rewards points for forced and recovered fumbles but I could see Strahan doing well here too. Osi gets a really good push from the opposite side and is learning to swipe at the ball while hitting the QB.
I wouldn't be at all worried about Strahan for the upcoming season or two. He may see fewer plays due to the depth at the position but at this stage I'm not sure how much that cuts into his productivity.
I think he's solid for this year, maybe the 8th DE, showing some decline in his numbers, but I'm not too sure about 2007. The Giants have two high round draft picks that will be chomping at the bit to compete with him. Frankly, if it weren't for this messy divorce, I'm not sure he wouldn't have retired after this year.
I also think how happy/unhappy he is with Coughlin this year could have an impact on his decision, but the money he's losing in this divorce probably means he plays two more years.
The Coughlin issue is overblown. Big ol Mike and TC get along just fine. Strahan was one of the players noted for "buying into" Coughlin's system prior to last year. I doubt it factors into his retirement plans.
I'm not saying the guy's numbers won't tail off a bit but look at what he posted last year coming off major injury in '04. The guy is a beast.
