Strategy for Auction this year (1 Viewer)

Oh, I can't actually be sure. But I'm pretty sure I'll find one and half of the top 12 guys will bust. I mean, I like the odds of Crowell and Martin putting up top 12 ppg numbers. I think Abdullah has an outside shot at surprising some people. If you throw 5-6 darts (and you're good at darts), you'll hit a couple times... no need to pay extra to stand closer!
Crowell is a top 15 RB right now and he isn't cheap....should go for at least $23 in a $200 cap auction.  Martin and Abdullah are nice candidates, but they do cost $8-10.  Load up on 5 of these darts and you're spending a decent amount of your cap on your "darts".

To me a real "dart" is a RB priced at say $4 or less.  Someone like Prosise or Hunt.

My gut tells me it will be very hard to win a championship this year without either D. Johnson or Bell.
Meh. You could conceivably build a bad team around one of these guys and not make the playoffs. I think it's a mistake to go into an auction draft with your heart set on one or two specific players. Because if your league mates overspend on Bell and Johnson, that means you can get a LeSean or a Melvin at a considerable discount.

I like the strategy of DJ/Bell if you can get both for $120 or below ($200 budget).  I like getting those two and a discounted Zeke even better in leagues with a flex position!  There is so much cheap value at WR this year that it's hard to blow it with that trio, assuming good health.  Grab McFadden or Rodgers to cover the first few weeks of the season and call it a day.

You're talking about spending about $150 on just three players at one position.  Bold move.

True.  But if you can get two WR2's in that $5 or so range, it may work.  Cheap QB's and TE's can always be had.  Plus you have all year to find two legit WR2's.

If you could land DJ/Bell for under $100- I would take that combo all day long.
I've been in 5 auctions already.  In any competent auction, this is never going to happen. In the 5 auctions, I've seen a range for DJ of $56 - $75, and Bell of $50 - $64.

My perfect auction based on espn rules/format/values

QB - Rivers - $1

RB1 - Johnson - $66

RB2 - Mccaffrey - $27

WR1 - Pryor - $29

WR2 - Fitzgerald - $18

TE - Ertz - $3

Flex -  Mixon - $13

Kicker - $1

Defense - Bills $1

Bench - T Hill - $12

Bench - thielen $4

Bench - D Martin $3

Bench - Hunt $3

Bench - Ware $9

Bench - Benjamin $10

something like that

I probably would try and get both at $110 or $115 total. Still a long shot, but possible.

I've been playing with the Bell/DJ/Zeke strategy in ESPN mocks and get results like this:

QB    Marcus Mariota-1
RB    Le'Veon Bell-71
RB    David Johnson-71
WR    Mike Wallace-2
WR    DeVante Parker-2
TE    Jack Doyle-1
FLEX    Ezekiel Elliott-39
D/ST    Seahawks D/ST-1
K    Justin Tucker-1
BE    Terrance West-2
BE    Darren McFadden-3
BE    Doug Martin-2
BE    Jacquizz Rodgers-1
BE    Thomas Rawls-2
BE    Tyrod Taylor-1
BE    Mohamed Sanu-1

Derek Carr-1
RB    Le'Veon Bell-65
RB    David Johnson-68
WR    Stefon Diggs-10
WR    DeSean Jackson-5
TE    Martellus Bennett-2
FLEX    Ezekiel Elliott-38
D/ST    Giants D/ST-1
K    Justin Tucker-1
BE    Darren McFadden-2
BE    Doug Martin-2
BE    Kareem Hunt-1
BE    Jacquizz Rodgers-1
BE    Derrick Henry-1
BE    Tyrod Taylor-1
BE    Cole Beasley-1

Marcus Mariota-1
RB    Le'Veon Bell-71
RB    David Johnson-67
WR    Martavis Bryant-8
WR    Tyrell Williams-4
TE    C.J. Fiedorowicz-1
FLEX    Ezekiel Elliott-39
D/ST    Eagles D/ST-1
K    Justin Tucker-1
BE    Jacquizz Rodgers-1
BE    Derrick Henry-1
BE    Thomas Rawls-1
BE    Philip Rivers-1
BE    Charles Sims-1
BE    DeAndre Washington-1
BE    Carson Wentz

I think lineups like those could work, and you can spend waiver $$ on WR's during the year. Just hope for no injuries. And that's with spending big $$ on Zeke, so you should be able to field a good team just landing the Bell/Johnson combo.
