Assume starters of 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Off Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def/ST.
All TD's = 6 pts. Standard points for yardage. No PPR. Serpentine redraft.
But this does not mean you should not feel free to include remarks that may help owners in leagues with variations. Just trying to help guide the discussion.
Round 1
Obviously the #5 pick has Tiki or Portis fall to him. You have to take the leftover. Tiki has performed as a top 3 back the last two seasons. Portis' value is hog crazy suuuu-wee.
The #6 pick is stuck in no-man's land. Just crap. A situation where the owner has to choose between a bunch of truly good RBs with bullets -- all could reach up and nab a top 5 ranking at season's end or just be ordinary or worse injured given the player's history (Edge, SJax, Brown, Jordan). It is not crap b/c you don't get a potential stud. It's crab because that schmuck sitting down at #10 will grab a player that has the same value and potential as your darling. YUCK.
No, put down the marker or draft board sticker if anything else popped in your mind. You will not take anything but a RB here. And no you do not take Rudi Johnson here. Palmer's knee is a question mark, you can not have this RB in Cinci w/o Palmer's presence. Rudi would absolutely suck. And even if Carson lines up for 14 weeks, Rudi is wildly inconsistent in the 1st half. You might doom your team by week 7 -- that's what happened to the owner that took him last year -- but at least he took him in Round 2 in '05.
Okay, so maybe it was taking Peyton Manning in round 3 that exploded his chances of winning like a soda can thrown into the fire. Still the game logs for Rudi were not good early on.
Round 2
What to do, take a 2nd RB? I think you definitely go with the stud WR assuming that other owners nabbed a couple of the top WR's with picks #7-14. I think there are 7 or so locks for top 10 WRs (no particular order: S.Smith, TO, Fitz, Holt, Harrison, CJ, Harrison). The Mosses, Chambers and Boldin are all nice too. But not locks for top 10. My thinking is go WR here if 2 or 3 go before you pick as you will probably lose out on the chance to grab the top WR's in round 3 if passed up at this point. Though a huge exception in my book -- if morons with the #7-#14 picks blow the chance and do not secure Brown/Caddy/Westbrook. Then you must take the #2 RB here and hope Chambers/Boldin/Sant Moss fall to the #25 or #26 picks.
Round 3
I think you take Manning at picks #25 or #26. Not going to happen. But thought I'd throw out the wishful thinking pick. Reality strikes though -- but it is all good -- you take the 2nd RB here in round 3. I don't think you want to lock up your #2 WR and wait for a second RB in round 4. You should be looking at McGahee, Chester Taylor, Julius Jones, Bush, etc. at picks 25/26, no? But then you may look up at the draft board and behold that Anquan Boldin can be heard calling your name. Obviously, if you were scum and lucked out with Caddy/Westbrook in Round 2 and Boldin is there, snatch that former QB up, dude. If you took Fitzgerald in Round 2, you must pass on Boldin in Round 3 -- you will not potentially (read for sure) doom your season when Warner's next ouchie occurs. (Obviously, I likey Boldin's skillz a lot, but not gambling the potential to place here). S Moss could be here? He was a top 5 WR last year. That's remarkable value in round 3, even if Brunnel's knees might swell to the size of Barry Bond's head (circa 2003).
So you could be sitting with Tiki/Holt or Fitz/McGahee after 3 rounds. Man I hate that draft outcome so far.
Just feels iffy.
Dreamland: you have Portis/Caddy/Boldin.
Where's Candid Camera, no seriously?
Smack yourself up, you might have: Portis/Fitz/Ch.Taylor. Who wouldn't like it?
Round 4
To be continued. But how about Reggie Wayne here or better, Warrick Dunn (a top 12-13 finisher at RB in my leagues the last 2 years.). This little engine would make a sweet off flex. I don't know how it occurs but Dunn falls in every draft I've ever examined. And TJ Duckett is a dog this year.
