Strictly Talent (1 Viewer)

Not talking supporting cast, or fantasy numbers, although of course those are factors in how we'll ultimately come up with our rankings, but if you are just talking PURE TALENT, who are your top 5 NFL RBs? Put a different way, if you were an NFL GM, and were drafting a team with all NFL players in the player pool, and you had the #1 pick, and someone told you that you had to use it on an RB, who would you pick (and so on for the rest of the top 5)?

- Note - and let's assume that we're just talking talent for the 2008-2009 season

I'll go first:

1) LT - This guy was amazing when he had a crappy supporting cast, and he's amazing with a great supporting cast

2) Portis - Sure, everyone produces in Denver, but he came to DC and has two top 6 seasons

3) Marion Barber - Dallas' O-line is great, but what shows me how talented he is is the fact that Julius Jones, a more highly respected player coming out of college, was nowhere near as good in the same system.

4) AP - College stud, now proving he can get it done on the NFL level

5) Ronnie Brown - A stud at Auburn, the #2 overall draft pick when he came out, and finally showed what he was made of on a terrible Dolphins team last season before getting hurt - 700 yards and 6 TDs through 7 games. I'm placing him #5 assuming that he's back close to top form.

just for this year, not taking into account age....

Tomlinson

Peterson

Jackson

Westbrook

Gore

i don't think barber has any business being in the top 5 based on pure talent alone.off the top of my head...ltapwestbrookportislj/sjax

1) LT - no alternative here

2) Larry Johnson - still the best proven combo of speed and power

3) AP - he showed flashes last year of what LJ has shown...only better

4) SJax - can do it all, not quite as elusive as the rest can be

5) MJD - bowling ball with moves

How do you define pure talent? A combination of speed, power, vision, and other intangibles, which in themselves are undefinable?

Let's see....

1. LT - the complete package

2. Portis - more powerful than given credit for

3. S Jackson - durability is a concern

4. ADP - some intangibles are not evident

5. Addai - next to LT the best all around RB

1. A Peterson - Best running talent since Barry. (Doesnt mean he's the best RB, but his talent is once in a generation imo).

2. LT2 - Best RB since Emmitt and Faulk in his prime, and he is more talented than Emmitt (and will end up higher n the all time list of great RBs, if he is not already there. He is for me at least).

3. B. Westbrook - He gets dinged. He has his detractors. He is maybe the best weapon in the NFL, and certainly right up there. His talent and versatility is unique in a world where the word unique is vastly overused.

4. F. Gore - He has some Faulk in him. Great talent on a bad team.

5. Steven Jackson - Most physical of the elite backs. Does everything well, and some things very, very well.

Honorable Mention - Ricky Williams - We are talking talent, and behind the bong hits, this guy has it. Sad that we didn't get to see him run as much as we could have, because he changed my opinion of his abilities before he hit the high a bit too hard.
