Suggestions for the Audible (1 Viewer)

We are looking to make The Audible podcasts a big part of our 2007 and beyond IDP coverage. Hopefully those interested have checked out our debut IDP episode covering many of the off-season changes relevant to defensive players and our magnum IDP 101-401 opus on the ins and outs of all things IDP.

We're planning on recording on a nearly weekly basis beginning just before training camp to cover many of the same issues we did in our preseason interview last year and inseason print IDP roundtables. Until then, we may drop in sporadically to keep things current.

We would appreciate it if those of you who have (or haven't) checked out the first few episodes let us know what kinds of issues you'd like covered on the Audible, general or specific. We'd also like to know whether you'd like us to expand or improve on things we've already covered.

All comments and suggestions are appreciated.

just finished listening to the 301 and 401s....

when you guys talk about schemes and positions, you tend to mention player names, do it more... come out and tell us, Marcus Spears produciton should increase because he is now in the Phillips 3-4 scheme...

as discussions progress, I can relate these things to other teams,,, I have no idea who the DE in front of Willis will be, won't take me much to look..

this kinda thing would be the defensive sleepers...

i loved the bit on how home teams score their guys better.. nice...

love the stuff

thanks...

First of all, the shows you did recently were all top notch, and the in depth explanations of the schemes and responsibilities of the players in them were excellent.

I have played in IDP leagues for about 3-4 years. I never thought I would like them this much until I started playing in some and especially as I started playing in deeper leagues. There is so much strategy involved that you could probably do a show every day and still not cover all of the different things.

Personally I would like some discussion on strategies related to setting your lineups. This is definitely my biggest weakness. Of course, I think understanding the schemes better will help, but understanding the schemes with respect to the offenses run by the different teams is something I would like to hear discussed more in depth.

Another thing...not related to me personally, but a benefit to a lot of people...that I think would help are some shows dedicated to those who are either new to IDP's or are thinking of trying one and just want more knowledge about them. Perhaps some drafting strategies, trading, roster management, etc. One thing that should be covered is knowing the difference between a good NFL player and a good IDP. Some average players can put up great IDP numbers based on scheme and opportunity.

I think you should have shows for everyone from IDP newbie to the shows for the more experienced players. At least the best you can do related to the time you have.

I'll post more when I think of them. These jumped out at me.

The AUDIABLE is awesome. I'm very sad that I found this great place just couple weeks ago, but hey it's better than never.

I have noticed that many people asked on this forum when would you take your IDP players in draft that combines both Offense and Defense. I think that info would greatly help guys like me who plays for the first time IDP leagues. Yes, I know it's very hard considering all that IDP defensive scoring settings and roster requirements, but maybe you could try. Something like when would you target your first LB stud, or something like that. Would you draft LB over QB, and so on...

Thanks in advance

DE is generally the lowest scoring position... but I've also noticed that it's the hardest position to find a guy who's going to break out. At LB and DB, I see about 20 guys each offseason with a decent chance of breaking out due to scheme or opportunity changes. At DE, I never seem to have a clue.

It seems like DE is a crapshoot, and to get a good one, I need to trade or hope that one of the guys I picked up as a rookie pans out. I'd like some detailed tips on what to look for in veteran DEs to find a breakout. Guys like Burgess and Vanden Bosch were complete surprises to me, and I'd like to find the next batch.

Excellent suggestion

I agree - this is an area that I really could use help at myself. I know its proably covered in eyes of the guru and other printed material but a few hot tips by the IDP gurus in the weekly podcast for wavier pickups and good starters for the week would be nice.I also would like some strategies as someone else mentioned about who to chose for your starting lineups each week - in a deep league when you have many choices - and I know with all the different starting lineups and scoring it would be difficult but just some basic rules of thumb as to who to chose and tips - like the home scoring on assists and PD's that help you make a decision between one IDP and another.ETA - Absolutely phenomanal work guys! I really enjoy listening to all of the podcasts - love checking in with the different beat writers - thats been really interesting! Maybe slant more towards the IDP in some of them in the future - get Jene and Dobbs in on some of those conversations with Cecil and Bloom.

One suggestion for a show closer to the exhibition games is to talk (by name) about the 'tweener players. You know, the guy who's listed as a 4-3 DE but will really be playing as a 3-4 LB, etc.

I'd also like to echo the sentiments that the strategy Audible shows were very informative.

Btw, I've had the chance to listen to 101, 201 & 301 and they are excellent, especially for IDP newcomers. Looking forward to 401 pt.s 1 & 2. I've been able to convince one of my long time Dynasty leagues to include IDP this year and I'll be sending the folks that need help to this forum. Hopefully I'll be able to convert my local league of 23 years to take the plunge as well. Good stuff guys :towelwave:

You're a better person than I am... I'd keep this place secret in that situation.

Yes, I forgot. What about us who play at Yahoo.com and we have LB and DLs all put in DL category. What is a strategy for that type of league. Do you make the rule that every team must start at least 2 DL to avoid starting 4 LBs? It would be great if you find time to talk about that specific angles in Audiable.

Thanks in advance.

Although I no longer play in yahoo leagues, when I did, we just played by their rules. I personally think trying to separate them when you can't do it via the league is more trouble than it's worth. If you do this, I used to just draft LB's, as they put up better and more consistent tackle numbers. I never have understood why yahoo has LB's and DL's all grouped together.
