And no... he was not drafted as a MLB. The Ravens had some guy named Lewis there.Suggs played LB in college, didn't he?... wasn't he drafted as a MLB?... he has the speed... he's just an elite natural athlete.
He was definitely drafted as a DE.Suggs played LB in college, didn't he?... wasn't he drafted as a MLB?... he has the speed... he's just an elite natural athlete.
:whoosh: It seems obvious that Suggs will be listed as a LB next season.Ouch
Nothing. It's the same defense. Ravens played a lot more "3-4" last season, with Suggs in a two point stance more than in prior seasons. He was still a pass rusher on nearly every snap, though. Barnes' role (expanded or otherwise) in the defense will be the same. There's very little chance of Barnes being re-classified as a DL, even if Suggs somehow ends up elsewhere. What's this mean for the value of A.Barnes?
Ravens | Team wants to franchise Suggs as linebackerTue, 19 Feb 2008 07:57:40 -0800John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens have notified DL Terrell Suggs he will receive the franchise tag. The team will franchise Suggs as a linebacker, which gives him a one-year tender at $8.065 million. However, Suggs claims he played more than 50 percent of the team's defensive snaps at defensive end, which has an $8.879 million tender offer. Suggs is expected to challenge the designation in order to have a complete breakdown of the defensive snaps to determine if he should be an end or a linebacker.
I understand his role isn't changing, but he is a stud if listed as DE and nothing if listed as a LB. I have him in two leagues and I might try to sell before the news gets out and he loses value.Only reason he was changed or franchised as a LB is because it is cheaper for the Ravens ($820K cheaper). Suggs is appealing the classification of a LB by showing evidence he played more than 50% of downs as a DE.This could really hurt Suggs' value in fantasy if the classification as a LB does hold up over to next year, but this seems like a move by the Ravens to save money, rather than anything changing with Suggs' on-the-field position.

I'd say that's a done deal. Nothing says 'You are appreciated' like switching your position so they can pay you less.redman said:Even if Suggs' appeal doesn't win in the NFL, I'm still going to insist in my fantasy leagues that he be treated as a DE. This is a financial stunt, plain and simple.
In truth, I have to wonder whether it's worth it for the Ravens to pull this sort of maneuver and risk alienating a star player.
And I'll ask again, in which unit's position meetings did Suggs participate, the D-line's or the LB's? I'd love to know that.Any Ravens homers or someone knowledgeable enough to post whether they think Suggs played more than 50% of the downs as a DE?I am curious if Suggs will win his appeal in regards to the position of the franchise tag laid on him.
Rex Ryan uses a lot of hybrid defenses. It can change from play to play from 4-3, to 3-4 to the forty-six among others. Actually I'll go as far as to say it can change inside of the play. You can see Suggs on the line with his hand down in a 4-3 then watch him drop off into a 3-4. I'll say this is a huge reason as to why he's so valuable and the second most valuable player on the defense behind Ray Lewis (ReedAny Ravens homers or someone knowledgeable enough to post whether they think Suggs played more than 50% of the downs as a DE?I am curious if Suggs will win his appeal in regards to the position of the franchise tag laid on him.
I also own him and thought about trading him but decided against it because this is only for one year at most. I can't see him signing a long term deal with the ravens if they insist on paying him as a lb. And with this stunt I wouldn't be surpised to see him sign elsewhere (as a de)I understand his role isn't changing, but he is a stud if listed as DE and nothing if listed as a LB. I am sure the Ravens had him as LB for this exact reason...cheaper.Pipes said:This isn't really new. The Baltimore Ravens official website had him listed at LB for the entire 2007 season. It seems like NFL.com is finally catching up with this designation.I was really hoping he'd go somewhere else so he could go back to being a DE.
