Super Bowl XLII = Super Bowl XX Redux (1 Viewer)

Super Bowl XX featured one of (arguably the) best teams in the history of the NFL in the '85 Chicago Bears as the heavy favorite. Their opponent, the New England Patriots, were a lowly wild card team that had to win three playoff road games to make it to the Super Bowl, beating the heavy favorite Dolphins and Raiders along the way.

Super Bowl XLII will feature one of (arguably the) best teams in the history of the NFL in the 18-0 and highest scoring team ever New England Patriots as the heavy favorite. Their opponent, the New York Giants, were a lowly wild card team that had to win three playoff road games to make it to the Super Bowl, beating the heavy favorite Cowboys and Packers along the way.

Super Bowl XX: Bears 46, Patriots 10 (with their lone touchdown being a late-game gimme after benching their starting quarterback for ineffectiveness).

Super Bowl XLII: ??

I'm think we'll see a very similar result.

I would have to agree with you... pretty bummed now as i figured the packers had a chance to atleast make the game exciting...

week 17 holds no candle to the superbowl...

not to mention all the game tape from week 17 NE has on the Giants... and 2 weeks to prepare...

After watching the game today as well as the week 17 Pats/Giants game, you think the Packers had a better shot at beating the Pats than the Giants? . I'm perplexed at the lack of respect towards the Giants.....

Reminds me of the '90 game, too. The Giants up against a much better opponent, an offensive machine. And Bill Belichick was in that game, too.

I think the Pat's win a fairly competitive game.Patriots 34NYG 21

It's a terrible analogy. The Patriots were not only overmatched talent-wise, they were totally intimidated by the Bears.

The Giants just played the Patriots 3 weeks ago, and played very well. They KNOW they can compete with the Patriots. I'm not saying they will win, but I would be surprised if they were dominated to the extent those Pats were. Eli Manning, Jacobs, Burress, Strahan, Umenyiora, et. al is a much more talented opponent than Tony Eason, Craig James, Irving Fryar, Andre Tippett, etc.

And I'm pretty sure the Giants will be able to score a copy of the Week 17 game tape.

You guys are right!

The Giants have no chance against the Bucs...

err, I mean the Cowboys will wipe the field with them....

oops, I mean the Packs will destroy them....

Wait! I mean the Patroits will annialate them!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm totally psyched that the country gets two whole weeks of "Boston vs New York" jammed down our throats. There's not nearly enough media coverage on that rivalry - how refreshing!!!

 I agree. Its a good thing I'm addicted to this site becasue I'm almost tempted to not visit these boards for the next several weeks.

Although I was rooting for the Packers, I am actually glad now that it is the Giants who will be facing the Patriots (minus the "center-of-the-universe" Northeast crap we have to put up with for the next two weeks).

First of all, the Giants are capable of competing with the Patriots as evidenced by their narrow 38-35 loss only four weeks ago after blowing a 28-13 lead.

Second, if the Packers were going to play the same pass coverage against the Patriots that they did against the Giants then Moss and company would have eaten them alive.

Finally, I remember a couple of years ago when ESPN and everybody else proclaimed a USC team the best in college football history...and they promptly went out and lost the national title in the Rose Bowl to Texas.

The Giants have shown the ability to learn from losses (Dallas twice and Green Bay). Don't count out an upset by the G-men, I know most of the country will be cheering for them!
