Surprise! Brewers Talking About Veteran Lumber (1 Viewer)

While admitting neither of these deals will likely get done, just the fact that the Brewers are talking Andruw and Rolen means we can likely expect something of major import out of the Brewers this winter.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them dangle Sheets (UFA after next year) to the loser of the Santana derby. It would take about half the haul the Twins are looking for I would guess - a Hughes or Lester and a minor league stud I would guess.

How can you root for that team with that piece of garbage owner? And don't tell me he's not the owner. What? His daughter owns it right? Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

With all due respect if you think Boston would move lester + prospect for Sheets you're out of your mind.

Mark Attanasio is the owner of the Brewers. The Seligs sold several years ago.

I believe if he passed a physical for them, they would make that trade.

It would depend on the other player but I'm not entirely sure the Sox would trade Lester for Sheets straight up.... definitely not with another 3star or greater prospect.

Hmmm...I hate it when that happens. But I do know that Selig "made sure" the Brewers would get all that talent. Ok, maybe not but the Braun ROY award was a joke and that's definitely Selig's doing. Now that I know.

No way. Nor would the Yankees trade Hughes.

Sheets is an older pitcher that cant stay healthy, and has only a limited time where he dominated, and that was in the NL. To make matters worse, it was the NL Central. No team would move a top pitching prospect for Sheets. Well, maybe the Mets, but only because they're desperate and dont really have any prospects that are all that good.

Lots of ill-informed homers in here.

Theo would take Lester for Sheets on the spot, assuming Sheets passes a physical. Amazing how easily people forget how good a player is when he has a bit of an injury issue. Given 30-34 starts with Boston, Sheets is a 20 game winner. See: Beckett, Josh.

No doubt. Even if he only starts 25 games. A healthy Sheets (25 starts)+Tavarez(10 starts) >>> Lester 35 starts.

A) Sheets passing a physical is hardly a givenB) Even if he passes, he's still damaged goodsC) He has never pitched in the AL, and the lineups there are a huge differenceD) Sheets didnt show anything last year approaching the dominating form of a few years ago.E) He costs alot more than Lester. Even the Yankees and Red Sox cant spend 12 mil per player for an entire roster.

A) Sheets passing a physical is hardly a given Obviously this is all premised on him passing a physical. Hence the hypothetical.

B) Even if he passes, he's still damaged goods He hasn't pitched more than 150 innings since 2004. He definitely is a huge, huge risk even if he passes a physical

C) He has never pitched in the AL, and the lineups there are a huge difference This is completely overblown. The difference is about .2 runs a game. There is certainly an adjustment period (Beckett), but good pitchers will pitch good to either league.

D) Sheets didnt show anything last year approaching the dominating form of a few years ago. He still managed to put up a 3.82 ERA. Obviously he is not the dominant ace that he was 3 years ago. However, he is a better pitcher than Lester by a good margin

E) He costs alot more than Lester. Even the Yankees and Red Sox cant spend 12 mil per player for an entire roster. He is only signed through next year. He is due 11 million. It may be a worthwhile risk, IMO.
 I'm not saying it is a slam dunk...but to laugh it off and say that Theo wouldnt even think about trading Lester for Sheets is quite foolish.

Dominant pitchers will dominate in either league. Good pitchers see their numbers increase significantly. There are just too many question marks and risks to make that trade, especially since Lester is only 23 and his stats are trending better, as opposed to Sheets.

Point is, the loser of the Santana sweepstakes is going to try and make a follow up move of import, and Sheets, in his final year, seems to make a lot of sense for both of them. He IS a dominant pitcher. He IS an ace. He IS injury prone...that is the only reason it is a risk for either the Yanks or BoSox (well..that and he could bolt after a year).

I would love to hear why Braun winning the ROY was a joke... please enlighten me as I am bored on a Saturday night.

I wouldn't exactly call it a joke, as Braun's offensive numbers were fantastic. But I am in the group that thinks Tulowitzki deserved it over him. Braun's play in the field was just that bad.

The Brewers and Cards continue to discuss Rolen. All the Cards seem to want is Capuano....and they will assume some of Rolen's contract. I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

Also....the only team to have inquired about Ben Sheets thus far is the Dodgers....they could put together a package to the Brewer's liking for sure....

One rumor (ESPN Radio) has the Dodgers sending Billingsly and Kemp to the Brewers for Sheets. I would do that deal yesterday! While Billingsly has been erratic, he has frontline stuff and Kemp is going to be a solid if not spectacular corner OF. They can rely on about 25 starts from Sheets this year and then watch him walk, or make a deal like this now and get some solid major leaguers for him.

Once this deal was done, if they wanted they could parlay Kemp or Bill Hall into another deal for any other area of weakness they perceive.....

is Mil. trying to acquire an outfielder because of lack of confidence in Corey Hart?

i have heard he had butted heads with the manager in the past, any homer info here?

Absolutely not. They love Hart. Bill Hall would be the odd man out if they move Braun to the OF by picking up a 3rd baseman. Nearly everyone that talks to the Brewers wants Hall. He is signed for 3 or 4 more years pretty cheap and can play multiple positions. Likely they would keep him for their own depth, but they would certainly entertain more seriously offers for Hall.
