TCF MNF game up in air(b/c no heating coils/safety) (1 Viewer)

Saw a blurb on this on NFL Network today. Essentially this stadium isn't equipped to use the heating coils the nfl mandates. This is a player safety issue, as the frozen ground makes it almost like getting tackled on concrete. In this day and age of 'concussion-minded safety', I can't see how they could justify playing on this surface, over using another NFL stadium (or one that has heating coils elsewhere-- no clue of the possibilities

TCF not a lock for MNF due to heating coils/NFL safety guidelines

The Vikings are spending 300k to TRY and get the stadium ready in time. There is a lot of stuff that needs done there, and there may not be enough time. Supposed to be bitter cold there all week to slow things down too.

Anyone got a link to HIPPLE'S BLOG???
Really. I mean there's a blog that's all Hipple all the time and we've been missing out :(But now that we know it's there :pickle: :) :excited: :lol:Thanks for the info, Hipple!-QG

Why in the world would a stadium in Minneapolis not have the infrastructure for cold weather? Yeah I understand they won't ever play past November in college, but freezing temps in November are not unheard of.

LAMBEAU!!!
It is sort of equidistant from both Cities. It can certainly support an outdoor cold weather game. The Packers are on the road, and I noted that the Packers have requested on their official site shovelers for tomorrow. Both teams are familiar with the venue and with travel arrangements on how to get there, as are their fans.In spite of rivalrys, Wisconsin folks are used to helping out neighbors in times of need, and I am certain would be good hosts, though there naturally would be some ribbing to go with it.It would also be a nice boost to the Green bay economy right before Christmas. Any City could use that, but given the small size of Green Bay it would be noticed more there than in most Cities where proportionallly it would be less impactful.Fumigation and sterilization of the home team locker room would naturally have to occur after the game, but that's not a big deal.

If not TCF, I sure hope it's Lambeau. At least Vikes fans could get there and any Packers fans that show would be legitimately rooting against the Bears.

Plus it gives Favre one last game infront of the crowd that made him immortal.

Is TCF natural turf? If so, I wonder if it possible to "infuse" the top few inches of turf/soil with a saline solution so that it thaws to a nice "soft" consistency and won't freeze back for a while? Not sure how cold it has to be for saline solutions to freeze ... think it depends on the concentration of NaCl in the water.

A few days of freezing temps don't turn the ground to concrete, so its not big deal for the college season. A few weeks of single digits are another story, however.

NO LINK..but as I was driving to work this morning in Atlanta, 2 of the sportstalk radio shows indicated that there are discussions with Minnesota to have the game played Monday night at the Georgia Dome...don't shoot the messenger, as I have no proof or linkability...just letting everyone know what I heard.

The freezing point of a pure water solution can be depressed to a maximum of -21.1 C, at a concentration of 23.3% NaCl.

Here's a neat article I found about golf course maintenance in Iceland. They use a sugar solution instead of saline to keep the greens from freezing as easily in the winter.EDIT: The product they are applying to the grass and soil is called MolTurf. It's ordinarily used as a regular grass nutrient/fertilizer, but because of the sugar content of the mix, there's a side-effect of cold-resistance.

Thinking better of this ... salt would kill the grass. Guess that's why a sugar solution is used instead for this kind of thing.

I have to believe it will be played in a dome if not played at TCF. Detroit or Indy. Any stadium outside of Minnesota or Wisconsin will basically be a home game for the Bears due to fans.

I think this would be awesome. Plus, what Vikings/Bears fan wouldn't LOVE to play a neutral site game at Lambeau. I know it's 'enemy turf' but it's also one of the oldest/most traditional of the original stadiums. I think that would be really cool...

Hadn't thought of that. It would be fitting for the Packers fans to be able to acknowledge Favre at a time when he's not there as 'the enemy'.:mrPack:

:headbang: That would be awesome! (i could stumble to the ga dome in 25 minutes)

They might move the game to Atlanta since ESPN will be broadcasting next weeks MNF from there, plus ATL is in SEA this week so they could start getting the stadium ready asap. The other option would be to go back to Detroit. Green Bay would probably give them a sorta home field feeling, since fans would be rooting against the bears. They for sure wouldn't want to play it in Chicago.

Chicago Trib reports that if game NOT at TCF the Georgia dome is a likely site.

This was the article cited in the ajc

Other dome stadiums have been mentioned as possibilities, including stadiums in Detroit and Indianapolis. Although they don't have final say, the Vikings logically would be opposed to both options and even St. Louis because they know the stadiums would be filled with huge pro-Bears crowds. One source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said if the game isn't played in Minnesota the likely destination is Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

Vikings Players discuss 'heating coil' issue and safety

Linebacker Ben Leber, one of the Vikings' assistant player representatives, said he has not been asked about the choice of venue.

"They haven't consulted us, and to my understanding they haven't consulted anybody," Leber said. "I talked to a few guys, and nobody has been asked what our opinion is. ... I think much like everything else we're just kind of told where and when to be and just roll with it."

Said Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell: "When it comes to a circumstance like this, you certainly would like to have some input. I don't know if we have a choice."

George Atallah, assistant executive director of external affairs for the NFL Players Association, did not returns calls Wednesday, so it's unclear whether the group will try to get involved in the situation.

I'm picturing Doug B with goggles a beaker and a 1" X 1" piece of sod in his freezer testing this out.

I'm guessing flights are cheaper at the last minute into atlanta than most places too being the hub that it is.

Thanks for the links...confirms what I heard on the radio earlier and proves I'm not just some crazy old man driving in the frozen rain hearing things.... :link:

The Packers would not put that logo on their field.
They did it in Detroit. :link:
True...but they are the Lions...this is the Packers. And Lambeau >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ford Field and they would not allow it to be desecrated by putting that logo on their field.

 It's called good sportsmanship. And you do know that in Super Bowls, the host stadium paints an end zone for each team right?

Now I REALLY want them to play at Lambeau. Paint the whole damn thing purple.

Its called our division rival and a storied stadium. And since Lambeau will likely never be a Super Bowl stadium and another game is not played on a Super Bowl venue the next week...that point is pretty irrelevant.

No it's not. :lmao: gotta :lmao: cheesehead logic. Shouldn't you be rolling in fish and getting your shovel ready?

How is Super Bowl Stadiums relevant to a week 15 game when GB plays on that field the next week?I seriously doubt the Packers want a Vikings logo (or if something happened in Chicago) or a Bears logo on their field. We might pity the Lions enough to put that on there though.Sportsmanship is letting them use the stadium and paying for the snow removal.Beyond that...we may paint over the G in the middle, but I doubt you see any horn on there.
