Team Defense Rankings (FF) (1 Viewer)

Lionsfan78 did a great preview of Team Defenses that is available on the website as subscriber content. I did a search and couldnt find a thread that talked about rankings in general for defense this year.

Please try to support your suggestion... I would be most interested in where you think the cutoff is for defenses in general. My usual strategy is to generally wait on Ds, but not necessarily wait until the last pick. ie if there is a team i like take them after 7 or 8 other Ds are off the board.

so where is the dropoff and who should i target? Chi, Bal, SD, Dal, Jax, NE, Phi, Pit, Oak, Mia, Min?

thats 10 right there and my favorite relative to their draft spot is Minny. they were solid last year and now have Chad Greenway back in the fold. the stifling Run D always seems to produce turnover opportunities for the secondary. i know its just preseason but they scored 2 first half defensive TDs vs the Jets.. and they host Grossman and Jason Campbell in wks 15, 16

Curious to hear the boards thoughts on Ds this year. sorry if honda..

edit i included Dal twice whoops

Here are my rankings and justifications. Mind you I look for 3 things when it comes to defenses 1) team needs to stop the run 2) easy schedule 3) playmakers cause turnovers

1. Bears- clear #1. The cutoff is after them

2. Patriots- Always a top defensive team and added a playmaker in Thomas

3. Chargers- Playmakers throughout the front 7. Play OAK & KC twice each.

4. Ravens- Not crazy about their schedule but cant drop them lower than this. Loss of Thomas hurts.

5. Jaguars- Huge Dline stuffs the run forcing teams to pass. Added playmakers at safety. Play OAK Week 16.

6. Vikings- Huge Dline stuffs the run forcing teams to pass. Play Bears, Lions, Packers 6 times. This is the team Im targeting

7. Steelers- Not sure they have the playmakers anymore but still gotta give some credit to the defensive philosophy of the team an coach.

8. Eagles- Love their blitzing approach which leads to turnovers, sacks. Added star LB

9. Broncos- Love their secondary but their dline doesnt force sacks as much as Id like. Never seem to score fantasy pts

10. Cowboys- I probably should move them up but Im not loving their defensive players as much. Only have 2 playmakers IMO

11. Packers- HUGE sleeper. Play in a horrible offensive division and have done a great job drafting some solid defensive players.

12. Panthers- Only thing keeping them in the top 12 IMO is their division and Peppers.

No Miami? Thoughts? Any reason you know of not to have them in the top 12?

I pretty much agree with this list 100%. Great job. I'm not quite as high on the Jags, but my defenses don't go by points against in my league, just turnovers and sacks..

Thomas is ancient, Taylor is still a stud, and Porter is injury prone. What, honestly, is there to like about them?

The word is out on GB, they were the 4th DT off the board last night in a WCOFF Satellite, round 11 I believe. That's too early for my taste

Thumbs up on the Vikes this year, I think they have potential to be the best value as people will reach early on Chi and Balt. Wait it out and grab a solid WR or QB rather than Chi or Balt and then come back in another round and grab Pats, Chargers, Jags, or Vikes. If your on or near the turn after Chi and Balt are taken and you go WR or QB then you will most likely will not see Pats, Charger, Jags when it gets back to you, however I feel the Vikes should be there. This is what I am targeting. If I miss out on the Vikes with this stragegy then I will grab a team like the Cowboys and then make sure and take the Packers as I agree they are headed in the right direction and they play in an overall crummy division. I am basing all of this on a league where points scored against the defense is a category.
