Im in a 10 team, 5x5, h2h keeper league. This league i play with same guys year and year (10th season this year). I have a good squad, in fact Im actually in 1st place right now. But Im just not wow'd by the production so far. I feel I am weak in my infield and pitching, especially pitching.

SP- Verlander, Lincecum, Oswalt, Liriano, RHill, Cueto, Bucholtz

RP - Nathan, CCordero, Lyon, BWilson

C- McCann

1B- Pujols

2B- BJ Upton

3B- Braun

SS- Furcal

OF- Soriano

OF- Sizemore

OF- Rios

OF- ####udome

1B/3B- MReynolds

2B/SS- Keppinger

UTIL - Ankiel

BN- Swisher

BN- Elsbury (have claim in to drop him for MKemp)

here is an offer on the table waiting for me to make a decision on:

I get: RCano/Smoltz

I give: BJ Upton

the same guy has been trying to get Rios/Upton from me for a week. His best 2 pitchers are Smoltz/Sabathia. He is willing to trade, but he pretty stingy, this trade looks to be about most value I could hope to get out of him. But any other ideas? I didnt really want to deal Upton, Id rather deal Rios because Im more loaded at OF than infield. Id rather have Upton AND Cano (along with Furcal)

i'd hate to give up upton and i think you'll need his speed, but i think i'd do that trade b/c i think you're pitching staff could use it. you've got alot of wild-cards after lincecum and verlander. i'm not a huge cano fan, but he's not a major downgrade at all. you'd basically be giving up 20 steals for an ace pitcher.

scratch that part about speed. i forgot about sizemore. that's a great trade.

Don't do it...you need a stud closer more than a tier 2 or 3 SP...and face it, that is what Smoltz is over the haul of a season. Upton is an uberstud in the making.

That said if you swing a deal involving a stud closer I'd consider it.

If it were a redraft, I think I would definitely do it. Yet, being a keeper, Smoltz doesn't hold much long-term value. However, I think I still like it.

One factor you might consider is that B.J. Upton won't have 2B eligibility after this year, which will leave you with an even bigger crunch in the outfield. Picking up Cano at second base might actually be a good long-term benefit for you team, since otherwise you will be left with whatever 2B scraps are remaining after keepers are withheld. Considering that all of the elite 2B will likely be kept, you will be taking a large downgrade at 2B if you retain B.J. Upton past this season without acquiring another 2B. That said, if you want to hold on to Upton long-term, you could likely find someone to take Rios for a top 2B.

I definitely like Upton more than Cano, but the downgrade in power and steals might be worth it considering the long-term production that Cano will give you at 2B that you won't get from Upton beyond this year. I think your outfield is solid enough that you don't particularly need Upton. If you can't work out another deal sending one of your outfielders for a 2B, I think I'd go for it.

If it were me, I'd try to push for Cano + Sabathia for Upton. You might be able to take advantage of Sabathia's early season struggles to buy low.

I think it's a close call, and you'll probably be fine whatever you choose to do.

havent decided on the trade, now the owner with BPhilips is interested in some power. He initially contacted me asking if I want Ichiro, told him Id like Beckett/BPhillips.... then told him to make me an offer. we will see.....

In the meantime, I picked up 2 players off waivers last night. Guy dropped Kemp and Billingsly and I put in a claim, and got both.... here is my roster as of right now. Seems like I have a ton of pitchers, think our commish screwed up this year. we have 3 sp, 3 rp, 3 p slots, but then 6 bench spots....

SP- Verlander, Oswalnt, Liriano, RHill, Lincecum, Bucholtz, Billingsly, Cueto, CLee

CL- Nathan, CCordero, Lyon, BWilson

C- McCann

1B- Pujols

2B- BJ Upton

3B- Braun

SS- Furcal

OF- Soriano, Sizemore, Rios, Ankiel

SS- Keppinger

1B- MReynolds

UT- ####adome

B- MKemp, Swisher
