David is NE defense playable this year? Most sites have them ranked in the top 10. Average is 9 or 10. How is this possible with the young defensive players they have? Is it because the NE offense will put pressure on the other team's offense?

IMO, not playable. The top 10 ranking is probably based on last year's defense which didn't allow many points and was an okay fantasy defense, but as David said it was mostly "smoke and mirrors" and they will almost definitely be a worse fantasy defense this year...

Funny thing about the franchise tag. That was a union thing when it first came up when they created the salary cap era. And they wanted two of them allowed per team but the owners talked them out of it. Or it would have been even worse.

Really? When it comes to stuff like the franchise tag, it's largely a zero-sum game between owners and players. (What's good for players is bad for owners, and vice versa.) Giving the owners an option to use the franchise tag obviously benefits the owners, because all options have positive (or at least non-negative) value. That means it's obviously disadvantageous to players.I can't imagine how anyone would have ever seen it any other way.

As I remember it, the players were concerned that start players would be forced out of town by the owners and that the NFLPA insisted on creating the franchise tag to keep stars in town while having the player still get a decent paycheck. Of course, they didn't think that it could actually cost them money by not getting a hefty signing bonus and log term contract. But that's what they pushed for.

My Depends on the format; is there negative point potential for points given up? If so, run away, run away. However, if there is no negative penalty for points allowed AND STs are included then they are draftable imho.
