According to a ranking on rankopedia, the NFL teams with the best fans are:
1) The Green Bay Packers
2) The Pittsburgh Steelers
3) The Denver Broncos
What do you think?
Nope. Definitely my team.My team of course.
I remeber all those years watching Vikes, Pack games on TV and seeing huge sections of empty seats as the Pack struggled. Sure the tickets were sold, but it was apparent that you couldn"t give tickets away for years.Large variety of entertainment options in GreenBay during the fall and winter? I love snowmobiling and icefishing as much as the next guy, but there is not alot of options in GreenBay for your entertainment dollar.Great fans though, went to the Pack Vikes Monday night game in 98, best tailgaiting party I had ever been to. A true friendly rivaly feel, trash talk and laughing, never saw anyone get upset or violent. It felt like you were invited to some kind of home town county fair.Well they definitely got the #1 team right. Every game has been sold out since the 1960's (even during our long stretch of really bad years -- how many other teams can say that)If you join the season ticket waiting list today, you will only have to wait an estimated 473 years to get season tickets.
Is that why they used to have to play half of their home games in Milwaukee in the 80's?Well they definitely got the #1 team right. Every game has been sold out since the 1960's (even during our long stretch of really bad years -- how many other teams can say that)

Lived in Wisconsin during some of their down years and I would say the Packer fans are the most overrated fans. Those fans jump bandwagons to winning teams as much as any other fan group. Is that why they used to have to play half of their home games in Milwaukee in the 80's?Well they definitely got the #1 team right. Clueless
"Best" is a meaningless word without any criteria. Does "best" mean most loyal? Loudest? Most rabid? Holding their team to the highest expectations? Travel the best? Most global? Buy the most merchandise? Best behaved? Best tailgaters?
Steelers Fans for those of you that doesn't get suttle
Yea not many, but most other cities actually offer something else to do besides going to football games.Well they definitely got the #1 team right. No kidding... I can't attest to the Minnesota reference, but I went to see my team play in Detroit last year, and I was shocked as to how uninterested the fans were. I'd say it was like a pre-season game, but it was far worse. It was even early in the season, and they won, but the fans as a whole acted like they were at the opening act to a concert... not paying attention, walking around for food/beer/restrooms/souveniers, etc.70 year old farmers wives in Green Bay know more about football than most fans in Detroit or Minnesota.
The Lions fan. The mediocracy that we've had to endure to be a fan of this team should put us up there for consideration. The fact that we can sit in the same stadium as Matt Millen without taking a shot should also put us up for consideration for the #1 spot. For the love of god, let us win something
I agree that Steelers fans have to be on top of this list, heck look at how they travel. There is no group of fans that travel to away games like Steelers fans.

Name me one season in which the packers played half of their home games in Milwaukee... the reason why they played 2 regular season games in Milwaukee was because of a tradition started back in the 1930's not because of a supposed problem of not being able to draw fans to see them in GB during the 80's...Despyzer said:Is that why they used to have to play half of their home games in Milwaukee in the 80's?GreenNGold said:Well they definitely got the #1 team right. 1967 - Milwaukee games against Vikings, Falcons, Browns, and Rams1978 - Milwaukee games against Saints, Lions, Seahawks, and Cowboys1980 - Milwaukee games against 49ers, Lions, Cowboys, and BucsThey never played fewer than three reg. season games in Milwaukee from 1961 - 1994. Trust me, if it was economically feasible for them to play all of their games in the larger Lambeau Field, tradition would have flown out the window earlier than '94.Name me one season in which the packers played half of their home games in Milwaukee... the reason why they played 2 regular season games in Milwaukee was because of a tradition started back in the 1930's not because of a supposed problem of not being able to draw fans to see them in GB during the 80's...Despyzer said:Is that why they used to have to play half of their home games in Milwaukee in the 80's?GreenNGold said:Well they definitely got the #1 team right. What is the criteria we are using to determine this? If it's loyalty, knowledge of the game, and following here is my top five in no particular order:ChiefsSteelersPackers BrownsBearsI think the best test is not at the stadium either. Whoever said the Lions fans weren't into the game in Detroit when they went there are missing the point. Watching games at stadiums in most cities is not a true representation of the fan following. You have to consider dedicated minutes on local talk radio, viewership in households, and the fact that some of the best football fans don't have the $$$ to pony up the loot to watch games at stadiums. It's very corporate and Detroit isn't the only place. I saw a huge game in Dallas and the crowd was no better than it was in Detroit. The entire lower deck was more worried about their hair and what expensive restaurant they were going to eat at than they were about the game. I sat in the upper deck and had a blast but when I went and sat in the lower deck in the third quarter it was lame. Lots of nice chicks to look at though.Based on 314 votes by 258 voters
Did you go when the Lions put a good product on the field? It's a great atmosphere. Lions fans are some of the best in football just for buying tickets year after year to watch a 5-11 team.Grigs Allmoon said:No kidding... Perhaps going to a Packers game being the only thing to do in Green Bay,other than scraping the cheese out from between your toes on a cold winter night, has something to do with people filling the stadium every week.Well they definitely got the #1 team right. If you are referring to SEA, they pump in the crowd noise.Detroit fan here - we are either the dumbest or the best. I guess it depends on how you look at supporting a team with no chance of ever doing anything right.I think KC fans are by far the best. Very intelligent about the sport (and not just their team) not to mention Arrowhead rocks.Pittsburgh fans do travel well, it's true. But they aren't much more than 260 lb goateed losers with receding hairlines wearing Oakleys and those yellow & black tiger-stripped Skidz-styled clown pants that are about 8 inches too high above their beat-up hightops with the massive tongues hanging out, high-fiving other other dorks in Bettis jerseys and talking about how great Hines Ward is cause he's blue-collar like them (aka dumb).Green Bay does host a great tailgate as well. Nice people.Theres a team out west with the loudest fans in the league.![]()
I haven't thought of it that way, I actually like this response alot...in a way. I don't think that many "fairweather fans" ditch their team with any thoughts or intentions of making management improve their team. But...this is a business and management's job is to make money. I am a Pittsburgher and a Pirate fan who hasn't had a winning season in almost 15 years I believe. Yet, the organization makes good money because fans keep going to the stadium to watch the Buccos (along with profit sharing in the MLB). If management is running their organization very poorly and the true fans recognize this and truly boycott going to the games and buying tickets it will force management to perform better and put a better product on the field. If your team is actually going through a rebuilding year then I feel that you should still buy tickets and support your team through their downturn, but there is a huge difference between rebuilding for a couple years, and "rebuilding" for 15 years (ala the Pirates). If any fanbase were able to pull this off, they would automatically get my vote as the best fans.I know this isn't a popular opinion, and one is likely to get flamed, but I'm a big fan of fairweather fans. Fairweather fans boycott mediocrity and pay handsomely for winning. Supporting a team that doesn't make the effort to win shows loyalty, but I think there's something to be said for creating incentive for the owners to field a winner, and punish them for taking fans for granted. Not that it's always appropriate, some ownership groups may try in earnest and fall short, but when your team starts the season and calls it a "rebuilding year" without giving fans a reason to believe, I'm all for waiting until they want to make a serious effort to start lining their pockets.
