Tebow and Newtons skill set pretty much the same? (1 Viewer)

Fair & Balanced
Was watching some highlights in the NFL Network and they showed Tebow and Newtons college games. They pretty much have the same skill set in terms of how they play QB. Both are good leaders, both will run the ball hard when needed. Not sure either one is going to be a proto-type NFL QB though.

If Carolina knew that Mallett would have dropped all the way to the third I wonder if they may have changed their plans a bit. The Titans, Viking and Jags as well. All of these teams could have had great drafts and not invested the $$$$$ and time in a position that is proven to have a high bust factor.

Picking up Mallett in the third would have given Carolina one hell of a solid draft. The could have drafted Darius and a WR.

Regardless of Malletts off-field issues he will probably be the best NFL QB prospect coming out of this class.

Even the most staunch Mallett critics would find it tough to pick apart Malletts game. Mallett has the best arm of any quarterback in the 2011 NFL Draft class, one of the best arms in recent quarterback prospect memory in fact, is skilled in reading coverages and possesses an ideal passer frame that allows him to scan the entire field. Its also hard to argue against 8,385 passing yards and 69 touchdowns in three seasons.

not sure about leadership skills but Newton does everything else that Tebow does better

I'm not knocking TT

 I'm confused...
I am just going by the film they were showing on both QBs and they play the same style of game.

They had almost identical stats in college in both running and passing. Both won a Title and Heisman, Both are great running QBs, both struggled in accuracy at the combine.

Not knocking either one. Tebow did very well in his limted playing time last year, but if you don`t like Tebows game you can`t like Newtons game.

I'm confused because I don't know who you're saying is better.

Still think when all is said and done Mallett will be the best of the bunch.

I don`t know who is better..just saying that watching them both on film they play the exact same style of game.

Wrong forum, but I'm deeply distressed that the Patriots got such a steal on Mallett. Guy is gonna be money, especially after 2-3 years of solid NFL education.

If you don't like Derek Anderson's game, you can't like Payton Manning.
in what way do they have similar stats? High School?
The OP is comparing their "game". In the case of Anderson and Manning they are both pocket passers.
In addition to their "game" he is also comparing their "skill set". I don't know if he is right or not, but your comparison is not even close to being similar.

Pats basically traded a 2011 3rd round for a 2013 first and second round and probably a 2014 first as well...I'm thinking that will be the minimum asking price for Mallett in a couple of years.

They were showing both on the NFL Network and both look pretty much the same in college. http://www.gainesville.com/article/20110110/ARTICLES/110119978To me in the NFL just like FF the key is value. If Carolina knew they could have landed Mallett in the third and two impact players in 1-2 the team would have been much better off. Mallett is better prepared for the NFL than both Tebow and Newton and will have a way faster learning curve.

Mallet is a lot like leftwich.

Great arm and accuracy but a statue in the pocket with a long slow delivery. In the NFL he will get crushed just like lefty did as they don't have a lot of time back there.

So I guess this is a not so cleverly diguised Mallet thread. I'll play. So the Panthers, Vikings, Titans and Jags would have great draft if they took Mallet in the 3rd. By that logic, Washington, Miami, Buffalo and Seattle must of really screwed up since they had no excuses for passing on Mallet. The truth is the media would have probably lambasted any team except New England for that pick.

More of a VBD thread. The Panthers could have got more value and paid out much less money by landing Mallett in the third, and added two high impact players in 1 and 2. I know that some think of Mallett as a risk but Newton at #1 is a far bigger risk in terms of time and money.

Newton in the third would have been great value. At #1 overall not so much.
