Ted Ginn (1 Viewer)

If you watch a highlight reel for any player they'll look like a top five pick. The issue with Ginn is complex; he needs a defined position; he needs to run better routes; he needs a better understanding of the game in general; he needs to learn how to be more assertive (he disappeared for essentially all of last year). He had a great game against Notre Dame to end the season but whether that was a product of the awful Irish defense or his own talent is yet to be determined.

I do think he can be a great player in the NFL, but he needs to be a great player in college first.

He's a project... plus, if he comes out next year there will be more polished WR's who are likely to go top 5. He is a talent but not top 5 right now, IMO.

ditto above..Could be another Warrick too... of course people say he'd have been money without the injuries.

Fun to watcch for sure, and with this recent advent of teams paying rediculous sums of money for these specialized skill set 'tweeners, I could see him garnering a top 5 pick if he plays the way he should next year.

I've been saying this for 2 years + now. Ginn will be the fastest man in the NFL the day he puts on a NFL uniform. Ginn needs some work, but I'm guessing he absolutly explodes this year at OSU. I just hope it don't happen against my PSU Lions.

Someone alwys says this when highlight video is posted. The thing about Ginn that this video shows is his rare balance, agility, explosivness and raw speed. Several times in that vedio we saw Ginn do thngs that maybe one or 2 other college football players in the past 2 or 3 years could do. He would go from cutting, running half speed or stopped and manage to accelerate out of the reach and pull away from guys who not only already had the angle on him but were also running at full speed. Maybe Bush and Hester can do that, but I can't think of anyone else. Really there is no way you can possibly watch something like that and not be impressed IMO. Sure the guy needs polish but so does every college player and lets not forget he is STILL IN COLLEGE.

I'll agree that he has tremendous balance and agility to go along with acceleration, but at some point you have to stop relying on your physical tools and develop the mental aspect of your game to make the most of your talent. He can make go from making an amazing, game-breaking play to simply being non-existent on the field sometimes and that's very concerning. That's in tandem with his lack of real route running skills. The comparison to Bush really ends at the athleticism - Reggie is incredible when it comes to on the field decisions and actions, and plays a much more 'natural' position for that skill set.

The bottom line for me is his production, and there really is none so far. He has outstanding talent and when he turns that into production I'll hop on the bandwagon, but there have been several players with talent who never turn it into anything. Hopefully this year we'll see that progression out of him.

holy crap he's fast. He got so far behind the DB's on those deep passes its just ignorant. I would like to see what he can do in the NFL with a top flight OC and QB.

Kid is crazy fast and appears to have great balance, but there's a long way to go before declaring him a top 5 pick. Dwayne Jarrett and Calvin Johnson are great WR prospects. I agree completely with jurb here. Looking at this video tells me that Ginn is one of the fastest players in college, with vision, and that special stop/start acceleration. It made me think of Reggie Bush or Michael Vick. I can't comment on his routes, but you can't teach speed and vision and he has a lot of those. Whether he's a top 5 pick who knows, but I'll buy that he'll be one of the best WRs available when he comes out. Is he permitted to enter the 2007 NFL draft? I think yes, right?

:goodposting: It looks like one of those high school videos. Except it's against notre dame and MSU. Did you see him on the deep balls? He was 7-8 steps ahead of the CB. It wasn't even close. Even Vick could hit him.

Here's Ginn's speed resume...

** National champ in the 110 hurdles as a junior and had the best time as a senior (13.23). He was also the state champ both years.

** State champ in both the 300 hurdles and 200 meter dash as a senior.

** State runner-up in the 400 meter dash both his junior and senior years.

** Has run a 10.5 in the 100, a 46.57 in the 400, a 36.73 in the 300 hurdles, and a 21.16 in the 200.

Ladies and gentlemen, with the XX selection in the 2007/2008 NFL Draft, Al Davis... I mean the Oakland Raiders select Ted Ginn Jr.

Coming soon... Speed Kills: Part VI

:pickle:

and a 4.29 40 yard dash.

The thing about Ginn people forget is that he can be a incredible db in the nfl as well. Ginn came to OSU as the #1 db in the country. When a NFL team makes it's decision to draft Ginn they have a incredible db,punt returner, kickoff specialist, and a wr. I do not know about top 5, but he is special. The highlight reel does not even reflect his moves in the open field. I would not say he is a better wr than Holmes right now. Holmes runs better routes and has better hands at this point, but no doubt Ginn has more potential. Ginn is hands down better than Holmes as a punt returner and kickoff guy. The rumor I have heard is that Ginn has put about 10 lbs extra weight and is stronger than he was last year. OSU will need another wr to step up and take a small amount of pressure away. I think Tressel used Ginn alot more as a decoy to some extent last year and certinly helped Holmes become the 1st round draft pick that he is today. I would put Ginn in top 15 right now. I guess it depends on teams needs in the top 5 as well.
I have also seen him ranked on sites as a potential DB. With his talent at WR, I cannot fathom how he would be switched to DB. I think he steps it up another level this year and is a heisman finalist, putting up double digit touchdown numbers includinig spectacular return plays.

I think Ginn should have decided to play CB. It was an option, but he (or coaches) never made it happen. Why, I do not know. He has all the physical tools to be a top 5 pick at CB, but unfortunately, no experience with the position at the collegiate level.

I love to watch him get the ball, but he could have been like a Chris Gamble and basically played both ways, but actually get a good amount of touches on offense to take advantage of his play making abilities.

It cost him millions...

I can fathom, but it may be too late now. He has missed a lot of development. OSU appreciates the value of strong CBs and strong DBs in general. Look at their history. It's a DB factory with emphasis at the CB position. If he were smart he would have tried to make that switch. CB is a more valuable position in the NFL. Look at the drafts - CBs are always amongst the top picks and most picks in the 1st round. Look at the NFL contracts - CBs make some bank.

Kid is crazy fast and appears to have great balance, but there's a long way to go before declaring him a top 5 pick. Dwayne Jarrett and Calvin Johnson are great WR prospects. Those guys will definitely figure into the early round one picture next year. I've also heard some good things about Sidney Rice, although I'm not very familiar with him at the moment.
I would venture to say that there is one trait that makes Ginn potentially better than those guys and that is his ability to flat out take over a game by himself. I remember complaining a lot about OSU not puting the ball in Ginn's hands somehow during the season but I faulted a lot of that on Tressel and his O staff not being creative enough. With Holmes gone this year he has a great opportunity to shine.

see, i think they tried too hard to get him the ball, and the other teams were just zeroing in on him.

They certainly didn't seem to try hard enough the Texas game... especially with the decision to start Zwick :X

we do not speak of that game.

And to think he almost went to the University of Michigan...

I think he will be in New York, as a finalist for the Heisman, when this season is done.

Being a bucks fan I openly speak of that game, however, I do not speak of the cursed TE whose name shall not be spoken.

Look at the history at WR. OSU is just as much a factory for WRs as DBS in not more.
