Big Panthers fan here and I'm very wooried about Cam's fantasy prospect this year. I've draft in roughly 10 leagues this year and haven't come close to pulling the trigger on Cam. Last year I saw someone that showed flashes of changing the QB position. No camps, no off season and he immediately seemed to grasp it. This year I'm seeing...

1) a very inaccurate QB.

2) him sail passes at a rate equal to or higher than last year.

3) indecisiveness in the pocket.

4) WRs who can't get open on a regular basis.

5) inferior pass protection.

6) a resurgance of DeAngelo Williams.

7) a wrecking ball named Tolbert.

8) a Panther's defense that might be serviceable.

Right now in a 6 pt TD, 1 pt / 20 pass league my board looks like this

1) Brady

2) Rodgers

3) Brees

4) Stafford

5) Vick

6) Ryan

7) Manning, P

8) Rivers

9) Manning, E

10) Romo

11) Newton

12) Ben R

Under the gun, I'd probably bump Cam a couple of spots based on his upside, but he's long gone before then.

I realize Chud is keeping the offense under wraps for now. I'd just feel a lot more confident about his prospects this year if he was looking better executing the basics.

Agreed except you should have Carson Palmer at 5 and Vick/Ben R at 12/13.

jets are a pretty tough d, even in pre.

I'm not crazy about cam, and would never take him where he's being drafted, so the whole premise is kind of irrelevant to me, tbh.

im down on him too but his rushing numbers will keep him in the top 10. even if he only get 5 rushing td's, thats still enough.

also, we could be wrong. peyton or eli are not going to finish in the top 5, but cam might.

cam has a higher ceiling and a higher floor than the 5 guys ahead of him

if you're downgrading Newton based on preseason, you need to drop Vick a whole lot lower too...
Your probably correct, however I give vets the benefit of the doubt. Year two people had Bradford and Vince Young making that next big steps. I'm a little leary.I find it highly more likely the Rivers bounces back then Cam progressing. I also am leary of a WR corps with an aging Smitty, LaFell, and whatever AFC West castoff takes the WR3 spot when guys like Romo have Witten, Bryant, Austin or Ben with Wallace, Brown, Sanders or Manning with DT, Decker, Tamme.

Newton is pretty much neutered in the preseason. There have been numerous times where he's had holes to run, but instead tried to stay back in the pocket, looking for his third or fourth read. His entire style of play (namely the threat of running) is limited in the preseason because of the need to stay healthy and not overdo things in a meaningless game.

The same thing happened last year, but the difference was that we didn't know what he was capable of at the time. This year we do, and I am not worried about him at all.

I do however think that we may see diminished numbers from him this year because of a more focused running game inside the redzone, along with less need to throw for large quantities of yards (as in the early part of last year). I think the team as a whole will be much better, but I could see Cam ending as QB7 or 8 because of a less total yards passing, and less redzone TD opportunities.

Hard to say now, but I have a gut feeling that style of play will be changing. Lots of "options" with treble trouble in the backfield.
