Tennessee Titans DST (1 Viewer)

The Titans are the top scoring DST in my league, and they passed Pit in PPG with their performance vs. Philly today.

Additionally, they've been exceptionally consistent - in my league's scoring system they've scored 23, 17, 27, 26, 27, 32, 30.

Are they now a must-start? Here's their upcoming schedule:

8: @ SD

9: Bye

10:@ Mia

11: v. Was

12: @ Hou

13: v. Jax

14: v. Ind

15: v. Hou

16: @ KC

Of those games, Indy may be the only time to sit them for the rest of the year.

I've started them since Week 3, and I had been planning on getting another D for Week 8 when they play at San Diego. After today, I'll probably stay put & play Tennessee.

I started KC D this week instead of Tenn and KC ended up 4pts shy of Tenn, not that it mattered Thank the Lord, but point being...Tenn is definitely no longer "match-up" start and now a weekly start without thinking!!! It goes towards the fact of not drafting a D early! I actually haven't put the 2 together but picking up KC off the wire just may work out with Tenn?!?!

I also have the KC / Ten combo, and started KC today. The KC @ Oakland matchup in week 9 may send me back to the waiver wire to cover Ten's bye though. I don't like how different Jax looked at KC vs. at home vs. Tennessee last week - particularly with Bouman, this game should have been a blowout.

Got to agree also. Usually Defenses and Kickers mean little to me and NEVER draft one early but every once in a while there is a kicker or Defense that matters. Nei Rackers and R Gould a few years ago or the Bears or KC defense from past years and the Titans seem to be it, they score 10+ points a week and can be a difference. they are the only must start / matchup proof defense. Just start them them and forget it until the bye week. Its a huge advantage to have a Defense that gets 5-8 points more then the average D. Gives you a edge over the other guy and can be the difference. I dont see a Kicker this year that matters above all but the Titans D does.

They were the top D a couple years ago for most of the season with one of the best return men (yards not scoring). They flat out stunk last year with a revolving door at one CB spot for 8 weeks. They were good the other 8 weeks. Rookie Mariani has been excellent and the D looks very good again.

Few things though-

Michael Griffin has an INT in just about every game and that simply isn't happening for the season. Yes they have excellent DBs, but that's borderline impossible for Griffin to do.

Jason Jones is being setup like Haynesworth and thriving. He is a grrr injury type guy though. I would say it's an almost certainty the guy misses some time. I hope I'm wrong, ya never want to wish that, but he seems to be the type. DE Hayes worries me in this way too.

Their LBers are a concern that's well hidden right now IMO between a talented DL and secondary. If they lose those two DL, they might be exposed and put up a horribly bad defensive performance "out of the blue."

Positive-

LBs are coming along nicely and Cecil is doing an excellent job.

Every single week I see Verner I love watching him more and more. I do not think the NFL has ever seen a CB with such a knack for touching the ball. Not in that he'll have some INT return or whatnot and look like Deion, it's just he touches the ball so often it's unreal. The other DBs afford him that opportunity. Eventually QBs are going to get him with well timed fakes and such, the WRs will stiff arm him while he's reaching for the ball and not to tackle, but right now it's just uncanny. I'd bet he's touched the ball more times than an opposing WR in every game he started.

I'd swear there's a forced fumble missing from this stat line, the other time he stood a guy up and recovered it. But I got four "starts" 2 INTs and 2FR 1 FF in my head, since defensive stats are grr subjective.

ETA 8 PD too

Hopefully positives outweigh the negatives and they continue to do well

They will have a down week when they get 4 points but after 7 weeks its clear they are a must start and the top fantasy defesne and the only weekly must start among defenses no matter who the opponent. You ride a Defense like this until the end. I had the Bears and KC defenses those years and they were a huge part of why i won it all those 2 years. If you have good players and have a TE/Kicker or Defense that just outplays everyone else at that position its just such an added bonus. Was like having Ladanian Tomlinson all those years with his catching 80 passes. you have like an extra player every week as those receptions are like having 4 WRs playing (in a 3 WR league). Ride this D to the end.

 I got sooooo lucky and picked them up last week off of waivers. I was secretly trying to get them off an owner in a 'packaged deal', without him knowing TENN D was the main target.

The deal fell through but I was estatic to see he dropped them. He must have gotten worried they would put up a stinker in the PHI game last week but I picked them up and gambled they would be solid and they were.

I'm with the other poster that the only game I have concern with is INDY in the playoffs. But Indy is so banged up right now, it's gonna be interesting to see how they perform going forward.

Now if we can only identify that must have kicker!

Let's hope and pray TENN D continues it's dominace!

Fisher seems to regularly have a good plan for the Colts even when they had far lesser teams. IMO Texans move the ball better against them

Playoff schedule is brutal. I just can't feel comfortable starting the Titans vs Houston and Indy even with the 12th man. That and the bye are making me waste roster spots on Miami and Atlanta. Division games are always so unpredictable and Schaub and Peyton are just scary. Titans are 3rd in passing TD allowed per game but 23rd in passing yds per game. The turnovers and TDs are saving them but they can be exploited so a low point game is most likely coming up.

Other than those 3 games, I'd start them every other week with confidence.
