The 360-pound defensive tackle out of Alabama signed a three-year contract Monday and arrived at McDaniel College eager to launch his NFL career. But after flunking his physical, he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP).

"Part of our process is everybody's got to pass the conditioning test to be sure they're ready to compete," coach John Harbaugh said after Tuesday's practice. "It's going to be hot out here, our practices are fast. We've got to be sure guys are physically ready to practice at the pace we're practicing at.

"So, when he passes the conditioning test, he'll practice."
If I remember correctly, a couple years ago both Devon Thomas and Malcolm Kelly flunked the Redskins' conditioning test. Welcome to the NFL.

Not surprising. If this kid is to become a quality NFL player he'll have to be poked and prodded the entire way.

The inability of Cody and Harris to pass the running portion of the conditioning tests was slightly alarming. Cody, a second-round pick who is listed at 349 pounds, has battled weight issues throughout his college career. Harris, who joined the Ravens late in the offseason, is trying to rebound from a torn right anterior cruciate ligament that forced him to miss last season.

Ravens having some issues this offseason on defense. Kindle with his stairway fall, Ed Reed learning to enjoy walking again, and the now the other high draft choice not meeting conditioning standards.

Cody had problems with his weight in college eating on a scholarship lifestyle. Now in the NFL, he hasn't been able to ditch his old lifestyle habits. He may eat his way out of the NFL if he doesn't turn this around soon. It was considered a given that vets like Ray Lewis would whip the young man into shape. Now it's

He had issues with this in college, one of the reasons he fell into the 2nd round. I'm surprised the Ravens didn't jump on this from Day 1 and have someone checking in with this guys workout progress once a week until he proved he could do it himself. Yes, he should be able to do it himself but this is real life, people need help with a lot of different things and for this guy it's how to condition himself for the professional level. I'm just surprised he wasn't given some type of plan to follow from the get go so that he could have avoided the public embarrassment as well as the lockeroom stuff. I guess this is one way to get out of the rookie hazing.

Still a little hazy about how serious this is...and if the issue is weight or slow speed?

Cody was 400 pounds at one point at UA. Got down to 360 last season. Now at 349.

He seems to have failed a sprint test...but nothing else.

How do they come up with said sprint time goal? Did he miss by .1 second?
