Did you guys catch the article where it says he's having microfracture surgery on his knee now? "Who am I" and yet I wonder if he can handle it. Jerry Jones is supposed to talk to him about his future with the team.

I'm confident the Cowboys will at least wait til after surgery, once he's begun rehab and see what the docs think, no need to do anything quick here. Even cap wise, they have til March.

If he's done I'll be sad to see him go. I'd venture a guess (with all that She stuff)that no one took more flak than him and handled it as well. Injuries wrecked what probably would have been a very very good career and he always persevered thru those as well.

He had the less inavsive surgery done before the season so he could make the effort to get back this year. If he had the MicroFracture he was done for 2007, so it would make sense he's done for 2008 having it done.

Can't see a big market for him if he's let go in 2009.

He did handle the She stuff well, even came back to play for Parcells, so he must have liked him.

I reported this a week ago in the Official Offseason Dallas Cowboys thread or whatever.

I am curious as to what the 'boys are going to do to address the WR position. Owens is getting up there and probably has 2 years or so of upper level productivity left, if that. By many accounts, Crayton isn't 1st WR material, and Hurd hasn't done much with his opportunities. Not a great free agent market, and the draft has no real blue chippers.

Great career, but it's time to hang it up.
Interestingly he had 1 all-pro season and 1 probowl season, but they weren't even in the same year. Is this common? Seems weird to have some think he's the best at his position, yet have others find he's not even worthy of the probowl.

She can't come back from that this late in her career.

Re T.O., Jerry Jones indicated he's going to pick up the 20M option on TO's last year of his K. I think the team will let him go after that. Why pay a 34+ WR the money he will demand? So, expect next year with TO and then he's gone.I know 'boy fans have said the team won't spend a high draft pick on a WR, but I will not be surprised, with two picks this year in the first, if they break that "rule." Romo needs targets, and Crayton plus the developing Hurd won't cut it. And it takes a couple of years for WRs to really develop.

I've been following this situation closely and reporting it in the Official Dallas Cowboys Offseason thread. The strongest indication as of right now is that they may very well make a play for Lions WR Roy Williams. He has one year left on his current contract, and it's been duly noted that he wants out of Detroit. It's believed they would like to work a draft-day trade in order to get something for him rather than watch him walk in 2009 and get nothing. With Dallas having two first-round picks, #22 and #28, there's a good chance they will spend one on him.

I dunno. I like our receivers. The stats weren't awesome but, overall, Hurd and Crayton looked pretty good this year. Crayton's numbers look similar to Wayne when he was starting out..

Remove TO and you will see these players' stats plummet.Gotta have a lot of WR weapons these days as opposing defenses are capable of playing against spread offenses. The three young guys on your roster plus the two TEs are simply not enough.

I have to agree with this. When TO missed the game against the Redskins the Cowboys offense was completely out of synch. I think TO is the key to the entire offense. Crayton is solid and I like to guy but he is a slot receiver and an average #2 guy at best. He needs to shut his damn mouth though. Hurd has the most potential of all of these guys. He is big and fast but he runs sloppy routes and he cant catch the easy ones.Austin has some potential too, the guy is blazing fast but has hands of stone. Stanbeck has to get healthy before anyone can make a case for him. He is also big and fast and could be a stud if he can get healthy and learn the position. We need a guy like Berrian or Stallworth. Either of those guys would be perfect and would REALLY open up the offense. It has to be a speed guy that can stretch the field. Crayton is NOT that guy. As for Terry Glenn, he is done. I didnt think he would make it back this season at all.

Let me be clear here, if the team trades for Roy Williams, they are done for the next few years. No need to add much more than him. Roy can be a T.O. YAC clone in that offense and he will open the offense and allow Crayton, Hurd and Witten to go buckwild. And if they go into '08 with T.O. and Roy, plus the current roster, they will compete with the '07 Pats' passing game numbers. Unlike T.O., Roy doesn't need 10 targets to be happy and to stay involved in the offense, esp. if he know he'll be "the man" from '09 forward.Assuming his career is not over, can the 'boys afford to straight up cut Glenn? If so, I wouldn't be surprised to see him reunite with Parcells as an on-field coach for their young guys.

Taxasmouth and Marc pretty much sum up my thoughts on the subject.

I do want to see what Stanback turns into. I think he has a very high ceiling. He was drafted with the idea that he'd be ready when TO and Glenn are done. Well, Glenn is done so hopefully he'll be ready with a season learning the position under his belt. More likely it will be year 3 (2009) before he really comes on. We'll see.

Marc, I believe Glenn is entering the last year of his contract. He could be cut with no cap hit. Actually, his salary would come off the books, netting more cap space.
