Texans versus Cowboys Preseason Game 3 (1 Viewer)

Dallas wants to win this game. They're 0-2 in the preseason and on Hard Knocks, don't want to be 0 and 3.

Quick Pitch left, Jones does scamper out of a tackle and gets 6 yards.

even I have to say Felix hasn't looked good tonight.
No, he doesn't but that doesn't take away from the other nights he has looked good. The guy is a rookie and he's going to make mistakes, hopefully he makese enough good plays to live with the bad ones.Overall, I don't like how the Cowboys handled their running game tonight in terms of using the backs. They used MB3 the entire first half....that's not how they're going to do it in the regular season.I would have liked to see Felix sprinkled in there with the starters, giving him a feel for the game. He's never really looked so far like he's found a rythm.I'm not worried about Felix, it just goes to show you we can't get to riled up when we see good things and on nights like tonight, don't get too down. OkField goal Texans, Kris Brown 3/3
I'm not worried. Just pointing out he looks bad tonight. It doesn't change my outlook for the season at all. People expecting regular season games to play out like the first half will be disappointed I think. But I realize preseason means very little
And to be fair he wont look nearly as good as he can be when his only reps are with the second team. But, that does point to Dallas's intention of how the are going to use him, at least in the first few games of the season.

I know this is preseason but a lot of people have the Texans as their sleeper pick to maybe get a wild card....I don't see it.

I don't think their defense is good enough and I also don't think they're running game will be at the level it will need to be at with the quality of teams in the AFC.

In fact, I can't see them not finishing in last in a very tough dedivision.

Jefferson getting MANY targets.

As noted in one of my initial posts, Dallas is giving 5 points tonight, up by 4 and driving. For some, this drive is costly one way or another.

I don't understand why you call a timeout there. Just throw the challenge flag out there, this play will cost you two timeouts. I don't mind the challenge, it was reasonably close, but you don't call a timeout to get the challenge, I don't get it.

I think it's a catch, you can't overturn that.

I disagree, I thought that was a Houston catch down to the goaline, especially since it was ruled a catch on the field.Bobbled catch out of bounds............Dallas dodging bullets right now.

Jacoby Jones has no hands. Big quick guy, you can see why he's around because of some physical gifts but the guy either doesn't have hands or he lacks focus. I can see why there's hype on him at times and I can see why he doesn't do anything with it too.

Dropped the 2 point conversion for the win.

Dallas with the ball with 2 mins to play, they'll need 1 first down to run this clock out.

What injury does Brown have?
Houston Texans RB Chris Brown did not play in Friday night's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys with a knee injury, according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain. Per FBG's news. The link appears to be changed.

Fantasy Impact:

Dallas:

Tony Romo: Very impressive, only mistake was a short INT in the endzone. He should push for QB 2 numbers

Marion Barber: Equally impressive. Ran hard, picked up blockers, stud back.

Terell owens: Not a lot, but a few catches. Showed flashes of speed and will be the TO we know in the regular season.

Patrick Crayton: Romo's not afraid to go his way, no dropped balls, looked focused and caught a Td

Witten: Didn't get a lot of looks, the offense was pretty spread out. Still, he'll be a force to stop.

Felix Jones: Fumbled inside the 5 and didn't have that flash he's shown the first 2 weeks. Didn't break some tackles you want out of your rookies.

Houston:

Schaub- Started off terrible. He found his stride a little bit and ended up Ok. I don't think he'll be a fantasy stud but serviceable in a pinch.

Andre Johnson- Schaub was off when Andre was in the game. He showed very little but did get targeted some.

Owen Daniels- Plenty of targets and catches. Not all of them long, but if you're getting 1 or 2 points per catch for a TE, they'll add up.

Slaton- Ran with some quickness, didn't start and wasn't in the game during the 2 minute drill at the end of the first half. I thought he got tackled/went down without much push going forward.

Chris Taylor- Not a lot of shake n bake. He's more of a straight forward runner than Slaton and I see him with a little more power. With Ahman Green, Chris Brown, Darrius Walker and now Marcell Shipp in the RB mix........I don't see drafting a Houston Texan within the first half of your draft.

K. Walter- Another guy targeted a lot. It's hard to tell if he'll get as many targets if A. Johnson plays longer but he looked pretty good.

A. Davis- Had a long kickoff return to start the game, was shaken up. Returned and played some but never really made an impact.

Both kickers had 3 field goals and no misses

Boy, Walter reminds me of Welker. A little jitterbug.
I'm liking Walter alot this season, i'm thinking he's a steal for where he's being drafted. I don't really see Walter as a jitterbug, he's huge compared to Welker (size wise) ... He' my ppr darkhorse this year.
I agree, he's going to be a steal. Last ADP I saw for him was 25.07 which is almost ridiculous even for a 2 WR league. I could see him breaking the top 30.On a separate note, man I hate losing to Dallas. Preseason, regular season, NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, women's basketball, sychronized swimming, pee wee football... it doesn't matter, I just hate it.

I'm a Houston homer and I agree. People need to temper their expectations with Houston this year. The run game still isn't working, the secondary is non-existent and the DLine isn't good enough to keep the secondary from being exposed. Mario is going to see lots of double teams this year. This is still a team quite a few pieces away from being a legit competitor to threaten any of the top teams in the league.~~~~~~~~On the game, I want to see Kubiak's comments on the RB"s. I thought Slaton looked excellent, but Chris Taylor kept getting lots of work. I found that pretty surprising.

Also, had been wondering why Zack wasn't in his familiar #54. Thought that the 'boys had retired Chuck Howley's number...but that made no sense as 55 would surely be retired for Lee Roy Jordan. Then I see 1st round 'special teams ace' Bobby Carp wearing #54 and I wonder...how does a possible HOF guy like Zack not get his #?
There are no Cowboys jerseys/numbers that have officially been retired. For whatever reason, it's never been something they've practiced.

Yeah, after getting to see them live last night, as long as Schaub is on his game they are going to be able to throw on most teams. If Green or Brown is not playing (which seemes to be a when, not if) the running game is going to be predictable. Slayton did not as well inside, and Taylor did not get to the corner as well slayton. Watch for Daniels and Walter even when Johnson is playing, but if he is out they are probably legitimate starting FF players in most formats.Without a better pass rush (even more than the problems at DB), the Texans are going to have trouble stopping most teams. Williams and Ryans will get theirs fantasy wise, but right now Houston will be no better than the offense, primarily the passing game will take them.In short, the 31-27 NO saints game looks like the norm for this team.

I know some of you took some jabs at switz in this thread regarding the use, or lack thereof, of Felix Jones in the first half.

Be rest assured, he's right. Although the Cowboys did game plan a bit for this game, they're not in any hurry to show any of the packages with Felix Jones.

They've reached the point to where they know what he can do, and how they want to use him.

On the other hand, they wanted to get Barber plenty of work and touches to get him "real game" ready.

Trust me, you'll see plenty of packages with Felix Jones week 1 at Cleveland. Two-back sets, motion, split out, etc. :bag:

It's coming.

I think that's pretty well said. The passing game is going to be the driving factor behind the Texans record this year. If it is clicking and Schaub is throwing well, I think they can be on the cusp of being a wildcard team, but it's going to take some luck for it to happen. Getting Dunta Robinson back will help the secondary quite a bit if he's able to step in and start playing at close to his normal level, but his effectiveness his first year back is something to doubt. As an aside, I predict Fred Bennett is going to become hated by the fans by the end of the season. More whiffing on tackles he should have made, just as he did last year. He may try, unlike Phillip Buchanon, but his results aren't too much better than Buchanon's were. They need to get Molden or Fletcher or Faggins in there to replace him until Dunta is back.

Nice drive by the TexansSlaton looks good, but seems like an ideal COP more than an every down back, but I could be convinced otherwise.
I think he could be featured in a West Coast offense with a bruising short yardage RB getting plenty of action, but I think he'd get beat up in Kubiak's ZBS. Still it's pretty interesting to watch him tonight. He looks bigger and stronger than he did at WV last year.
He looked much better than he did at WVU last year.

Hope we get to see our boys from Hard Knocks...The RB Lattimore and that WR who is Papa Garrett's pet project.
Scandrick has looked good this preseason in the secondary.Darrius Walker looks slow, I don't see him competing for the starting job.
Anyone else :coffee: when Ken Lucas dropped what should have been an easy pick and immediately dropped and did push-ups on the field? And the Dallas secondary and return coverage teams look really really bad thus far in the preseason.

LOL. You know that he looked brutal last year. Even you admitted that after arguing with me when the article came out.

I haven't been impressed with Reeves yet either. He's looking like a decent #3 Corner to me so far, but until we get Dunta back, we have no #1, much less a #2 on the field. I fear any game where we have to play a wide open passing offense like Dallas.

Reeves sucks plain and simple. I can't believe the contract you guys gave him.I am sure many Dallas fans offered to drive Reeve to Houston to make sure he left.

He'll likely be the #3 once Dunta comes back. He's not much more than a stopgap measure and I doubt he ever sees very much of that $20M over 5 years.
