The 2010 WW player to come out of nowhere and.... (1 Viewer)

I interpreted this more as a late season come out of nowhere player, a la Billy Volek from a few years back.

If we're talking from the beginning of the season, then it's obviously Hillis and/or Lloyd.

With Floyd and Nanee coming back after bye I would temper expectations on ajiritutu. If we are talking late season then Tamme looks like you are getting DClark for nothing. I gotta think VJax will be a wr 1 instantly once he gets back based on how phenomenal Rivers is playing.

This has been a crazy year and could be considered the year of the WW. I can't remember another year where 90% of my starters are either WW pickups or late round draft picks.

Billy Volek to Drew Bennett took out my best team ever! Team got them both on the WW.Has to by Hillis, Tamme will also help many a team when all is said and done.

As the early season guys, you can't argue with Hillis and Lloyd.

As the mid-season guys, Steve Johnson and Ryan Torain (if he gets back healthy next week).

Late season my guess is Jason Ford since he just looked so dang good. James Jones could be a good call as well.

So far I've got to say Hillis but come week 12 Vjax get's 5 games to make up some ground in this conversation.

Peyton Hillis for sure.

I'm in a 12 team "draftmasters" style league composed of a bunch of fantasy sharks and even with 25 rounds, HE STILL WASN'T DRAFTED!

How can Hillis not be a lock for this?
Because unlike Lloyd et al., in a number of leagues he was drafted.
I wonder how many leagues Hillis was drafted. I drafted him in my league but only because I drafted him as a handcuff to Harrison. I felt that the situation in Cleveland was not established but that either Harrison or Hillis could put up decent numbers if the other got hurt. I had no idea that I would walk into this little treasure.

Plus depending on when drafts were happening, Hardesty was getting drafted before Hillis

I wonder how many people are gonna post "Hillis" in here. Thats not what i intended for this thread. Hillis has been good all season and was drafted in numerous leagues. The complete opposite of what i intended.

Tamme really fits the bill the most so far. Blount should of scored Sunday and he'd still be in consideration but i think he should be good.

Sorry. Was a post game 3 WW pick up in my $$ league, with Harrison getting the drop.An auction/keeper league I managed to trade Matthews and Mike Williams TB last week for Hillis and Mason. (We can't keep WW acquisitions.)

-Brandon Lloyd: Starting getting some hype just before the draft so may have been picked up there, but was owned in a minimal amount of leagues.

-Michael Vick: Rushing yards to go with good QB play adds points equal to an extra TD or two every week.

-Steve Johnson: Who wants to deal with Lee Evans' consistency issues? Johnson didn't score this week for the first time in a while, but put up 11-145.

-Ryan Torrain: Looked good when healthy, and he is back practicing now so shouldn't miss week 10 and don't see Portis coming back to first/second down work.

-LeGarrete Blount: Guy who had a decent game, disappeared the next, blew up, then had a quiet game. If he can put up consistent stats, he'll be solid.

-Jacob Tamme: Dallas Clark snaps, Dallas Clark targets, Dallas Clark stats. Possibly the #1 TE from here on out the rest of this season.

Players I could see being added to this list between now and week 16:

-Shaun Hill: If he can get healthy, and Stafford misses time, he was producing like a top 10 QB for fantasy. Weapons, everywhere, on that offense.

-Anthony Dixon: If Gore goes down, like he annually does, Dixon looks like he has the talent and schedule to produce top 10 numbers.

-Bernard Scott: I think Benson has been playing better than his stats show, but if he were to go down Scott is explosive and a good pass catcher.

-Tashard Choice: Well, Jones and Barber aren't getting it done and big changes are being made with that team.

-Danario Alexander: Everybody here knows him, but if can get back on the field, and stay on the field. Talent. Lots of talent.

-Nate Washington: Secondary receivers tend to do well opposite Moss.

my 2 cents:

Lloyd has been a fantasy disappointment in years past, so i think people took longer to believe the hype and pull the trigger on him this year, where as Hillis looked like he had potential right away and, since he hadnt previously burned anyone in years past, people jumped on him.

IMO, Lloyd is the clear leader of WW steal of 2010.

Examples:

Hillis and Lloyd both had solid game 1s, but where Hillis delivered decent results in game 2 again, Lloyd put up a 3-53 in game 2, which shadowed unpredictable fantasy scores from him like in fantasy years past to me.

They both blew up in game 3 and by then i would say Hillis was owned in just about every league while im betting there were still some people hesitant to drop someone on their drafted squad for the chance that B. Lloyd would outperform in that slot.

Don't come down on people before you go back and re-read your question. You should have phrased it differently if you wanted people to pick a current WW player that will lead you to a championship....your question is easily interpreted as "which player will be looked back on as the biggest WW pickup of the 2010 season?" In which case it's gotta be Hillis, Loyd or Vick

This is a nice analysis of a very subjective topic.

Very good list. But about Anthony Dixon... Yes, he probably has the talent to put up good numbers if Gore goes down... But I can also see him being in a RBBC situation with Brian Westbrook, who is a much better receiver and blocker (vs the blitz) at this point... so top 10 numbers for Dixon (even on a weekly basis) this season are unlikely...

Jacob Tamme . For a guy coming out of no where mid season . Hillis and Lloyd for overall since they have been good for a while.

Sorry man, but Hillis was NOT drafted in many leagues. Not even close.

This is why Fantasy football is purely luck. You pick up some random guy 14 beers and 24 rounds into your draft and win your league. Year after year in leagues across the cosmos Championship banners are hoisted by whoever happened to be lucky enough to draft the guy who came out of nowhere. I mean, yeah, there's a few leagues won here and there by the guy who had a great draft and worked the waiver wire/trades to assemble a strong team by week 4 or 5. But more often than not the clown who had gold nuggets fall into his lap because he ended up drafting a few guys he's never heard of who end up exploding.

You sharks out there want to tell me differently? You drafted Peyton Hillis or Brandon LLoyd? You had a gut feeling these cats would blow up? Provide proof you drafted them and then give us a link of you talking them up.

What else can it be when a guy like Hillis or Lloyd just absolutely blows up. Or even Michael Vick? Congrats if you were the lucky one in your league who took Hillis in the 26th round.

Hillis, who could predict he would be the #4 RB after nine weeks?

This is a great point and exactly why I drafted Tamme ahead of Dallas Clark in the 5th round.
