The 6th Round Blues (1 Viewer)

Let's discuss our options during the sixth round of the draft, based on today's ADP.

ADP:

61 Brent Celek (TE)

62 Hines Ward (WR)

63 Marion Barber (RB)

64 Jay Cutler (QB)

65 Tony Gonzalez (TE)

66 Ricky Williams (RB)

67 Reggie Bush (RB)

68 C.J. Spiller (RB)

69 Justin Forsett (RB)

70 Donald Driver (WR)

71 Matt Ryan (QB)

72 Jerome Harrison (RB)

Distribution:

2 QB

6 RB

2 WR

2 TE

Quarterback

Too early for a back-up QB for my taste, and not high enough on either of these guys to be my #1 - PASS

Running Back

I think Barber's production might be spiky. Ricky is old and the Miami passing game should improve. Reggie Bush will be the king of inconsistent. Spiller has a lot of upside, but a terrible team. Harrison is a Brown and drowned in a confusing mish-mash RBBC. Forsett may also be in a RBBC, but seems to have the most possibility of breaking through out of this subpar group. - FORSETT is a possibility.

Wide Receiver

Ward and Driver. Old and slowing down. Tough to count either of these guys out, as I like both of them as players and they've certainly helped me out over the years...but there's next to zero upside here - PASS

Tight End

Celek and Gonzalez. There could be some value here, especially with Celek. Are we sleeping on Gonzo this year? Can he turn it around for one last boom? Not sure. I think I would take CELEK.

So, based on ADP (yes, someone might slip so we need to remain flexible), I could see myself taking either Forsett or Celek. The challenge with Celek is that he could just as easily go in the 5th. That leaves Forsett as Plan A. This doesn't thrill me, but it's not terrible.

What are your thoughts on round six? Where's your head at?

Depends on who you drafted in the earlier rounds. The 6th round your still drafting for need (starters) so if you can't figure it out, just draft the best player available. With this in mind, this belongs in the AC forum

Fun at parties guy

I would be happy to get any of those rbs for my third rb...esp Barber or Forsett. Don't forget about Tony Romo!
Romo is actually one reason why I might NOT take Barber. If Romo actually makes it into the third round, I would draft him. My guess is that he won't make it that far when August rolls around and the hype machine is at full throttle, but it's a consideration against Barber. Questions for you here. Since you mention "third RB," you must be forgoing another position earlier in the draft. Which one? QB? TE? WR2? Where do you see yourself drafting that position?

I would for sure be forgoing TE this year for a third rb. There are about 10 TEs this year that could get you very good production and having a third good rb can help you hedge against injury plus give you a valuable trading chip.

Barber/Bradshaw, Ward/Maclin seem like fine picks to me.

Nicks and MSW can also fall through

Gonzo and Celek are fine picks in a PPR too

Would like to see this happen with Nicks, although I do also like Bradshaw. With Bradshaw, however, I think you can grab him at least a round later.

I have no idea what today's ADP is, don't really care anyway based on that list of the OP.

The guy to pick in round 6 is M. Bush. And I'm not even thinking about it.

The 6th to 9th rounds, give or take, almost every year is the worst part of the draft. The first 5 rounds usually are relatively consistent from draft to draft, then a breaking point hits and they diverge. In some drafts you'll see a guy go in the 6th round and in another he'll go in the 9th and vice versa. Oftentimes, there's very little difference between the tiers in this group.

For this reason, if trading is allowed, this is where you want to move some of those 6th/7th/8th round picks into the top 5 rounds.

If not possible, then I usually go the following route:

1) If I've chosen "risky" players in the draft up until this point, this is where I go with safer, proven players, even if boring or with limited upside. Hines Ward. Donald Driver (in years past).

2) If I feel I've chosen pretty "safe" players in the draft up until this point, this is where I go with the less proven but higher upside guys. Last year it was guys like Ray Rice and Felix Jones in this area.

Most importantly, you need to know your tiers here as this is where some BIG dropoffs occur.

Take Cadillac in the 6th and you won't be disappointed.
Why do you think so? What do you like about his situation that would compel you draft him a round early?
I posted this in Cadillac spotlight thread:"Buccaneers offensive coordinator Greg Olson has said that the most disappointing thing about last season was the Bucs running game. He said that both Cadillac Williams and Derrick Ward will see plenty of carries, and that there will be a much bigger commitment to the running game. However, I really don't see Ward being much more than a complement to Williams. The only success that Ward has seen in the NFL was in a zone blocking scheme. While the Bucs will still run some zone this year, the Bucs will go back to running more of a man blocking scheme. Not only do I think Ward is a better fit for a ZBS, but quite frankly, I just don't think that Ward is that talented.Williams on the other hand is very talented. His only problem (and it's been a huge problem) is his inability to stay healthy. However, Williams is coming off his first season in which he's played all 16 games, and is now fully healthy. Not to mention that this is the 1st time in years that instead of spending time rehabbing injuries, Williams has had the entire offseason to practice with the team. I think the ability to focus on football instead of rehabbing a knee injury will be a big plus for Williams this year. While it took until week 16, Williams was given a total of 50 combined touches in the final two weeks of the season. In week 16 against the Saints, Williams carried the ball 24 times for 129 yards and a TD. They beat the Super Bowl champions by leaning on Williams, and I expect to see more of that this year. The Bucs defense played much better when Raheem Morris took over last year. While they will still have their struggles, the Bucs defense should be much improved from a year ago. Playing teams like the Browns and Rams will only help. With that being said, expect Tampa to not let as many games get out of hand, and expect the Bucs to be able to commit to the running game more.290 Carries, 1150 Yards, 9 TDs35 Catches, 250 Yards, 2 TDsA steal in the 7th round."In addition, I also expect better play from the offensive line, and the entire offense in general. Remember, the Bucs fired offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski 10 days before the start of the season last year. Greg Olsen was forced to input at patchwork offensive system on the fly. Now with an actual offseason to implement the offense, you should obviously expect better results. Also, the Bucs lineman were learning the ZBS on the fly, and are going back to a man blocking scheme this year.

Not sure where you're getting your ADP, but just using the staff redraft rankings, if everyone else goes off of those and I'm picking at the end of the 1st, so 6.01, my draft through round 5 would look something like:

Fitz

Grant

Best

Nicks

MSW

Then I'd be thrilled to get Gonzo or might settle for Cutler.

I like Ward there. He may be 34, but he hasn't shown any signs of decline yet. And even though he seems like a boring pick without much upside, if he just matches his numbers from last year (or the year before) he'll outplay his draft slot among WRs by 10 spots, which sounds like pretty good upside to me.

Forsett and Williams are also decent bets at RB, given their performance last year and the fact that their competitors for carries are recovering from injury. And Celek and Gonzalez are fine options at TE if you don't like anyone else - Celek is probably the safest possible 6th round pick.

:hey: I also think Caddy is way undervalued, and he's got a great situation to hog the carries on poor team. Health concerns and problems signing their LT have me still wanting to see if I can "steal" him in the 7th. Certainly I would take him over a number of players on the 6th round ADP.

Your right, I was working on about 2 hours sleep in 3 days.

I think Cutler in the 6th round would be great. Top 5 QB potential this year, I would rather have Cutler then Brady this year. First 5 rounds could grab 5 wr/rb's
