In This Episode: Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom break down the Bears with Special Guest John Crist, Publisher Bear Report Magazine, and Editor in Chief of BearReport.com Topics include Cedric Benson as the feature back, Garrett Wolfe as the change of pace back, Rex Grossman, Lance Briggs current and future state of his holdout, Devin Hesters new role on offense, and more!

A few important nuggets in this talk. The one I found most interesting is that Grossman basically has the whole range of outcomes in front of him in his contract year. If he does well early, as he did in 06, the Bears will push to sign him to a contract extension on the spot instead of waiting for him to hit the market. If he does poorly early (Crist said "2 poor games back to back") the team is more willing to go to Griese than they were last year, and as part of another question, Crist it's not out of the question that Orton would then get a shot to become the QB in 08.

Also great takes on Benson, Wolfe, Briggs, Bradley, and Berrian...

every one of these beat writer interviews is must listen material

Great stuff. :moneybag: I find that in almost all of them, you can listen close...aka read between the lines...and get some good info on some things that they won't come right out and say.

No audio here.

Can someone tell me what they are saying about Cedrick benson's chances this year of beign a true feature back?

I really liek Adrian Peterson to put up decent numbers in a backup role as well.

Cecil, love the content as usual (still getting through the IDP series, haven't gotten to this one). I'm sure others have noticed too, but man you REALLY seem to love the word "great". Do we need to chip in for a thesaurus?

He said he thinks Benson is being looked at as a 25 carries per game back, and could get 1300-1400 yards and double digit TD's. He said he is clearly the guy. He also talked about how he runs hard and hit the hole, looking to put a shoulder into someone. He mentioned Benson never had injury issues in college.

Crist also said Chicago's straight ahead blocking scheme is better suited for Benson's running style than Thomas Jones.

He is very high on Garrett Wolfe, which you and I are not. I guess we'll see in the long run!

Definitely. He said he was "short and stout" - obviously he's not quite as thick of a build as MJD, but an inch shorter and 20 lbs lighter, he's definitely not Pinkston either. And MJD definitely had an advantage being able to sneak through behind large linemen - if Wolfe can use his blockers similarly, could be successful - though it's hard to imagine someone his size ever carrying a full load.
