The Chargers and their fans deserve some serious credit today (1 Viewer)

I still think Marty is a better coach than Norv Turner, I still think AJ Smith and Spanos made a big mistake when they fired Marty, and I think San Diego will wish they hadn't even gotten off the bus next week when they are blown out by the Pats.

All that said, they won a game with a back up QB, a back up RB, and a TE with a dislocated toe...hats off to them for marching into Indy and doing something that few of us felt they would do. I think if you play that game 10 times that Indy would win at least 8 of them but San Diego won the other two this season. In a way, they deserve it. They get a chance like the Colts to go after the team that destroyed their SB dreams last season. Indy did it last year and got their ring...would have been nice to see those two teams go at it again, however the Bolts deserve the chance to fix things.

The fans deserve no credit. They didn't do anything. They buy jerseys. They're customers; nothing more.

The organization deserves a lot of credit. AJ made decisions I didn't agree with...and that's why he has the job he has and I'm posting here. I thought the hiring of Norv Turner was stupid, but they're in the conference championshiop game. I can't say with any confidence Marty would have gotten them that far.

Rivers has shown up during the playoffs. He's justified moving Brees imo (which I also thought was silly). The team isn't LT and a bunch of scrubs. Turner and Sproles are both good players, the receiving corps is coming alive and the defense plays "lights out" when they have to.

Now, they might (probably will) get steamrolled next week, but they've earned their spot in the game and should be proud of their season. They're the only team standing between NE and the Super Bowl, and 14 other teams would like ot be saying that right now. hats off to San Diego.

Be that as it may...try being a SD Chargers fan...it's easy to be a SF/Dallas/Wash/GB fan and point to all the trophys you have won, lot tougher to gut it out with a team that has never won a SB IMHO.

Most of the fans don't deserve any credit. I'm talking about the idiots who chanted for "Marty" in like Week 3 and booed Rivers after an opening three and out drive.

I disagree...I opened in the OP by sticking to my gunz that AJ and crew didn't do the right things. I still they they Effed up but they got lucky in the playoffs. I would still rather have Marty coaching my team in the regular season. Unless Turner pulls off the David/Golaith next week, I still feel like that team was so loaded with talent that most coaches should have gotten them to the playoffs...he struggled mightily when they were 5-5. I think in a year or two once Norv doesn't make the playoffs with the same team he ahs now...fans will be calling for his head. The Chargers are good enough to be competing for a trip to the SB almost every year...in the NFC they would steamroll into the playoffs and perhaps SB...but they play in the AFC with 2 all time great teams in Indy and NE, little tougher to do.

Wow. We're 18 games into the season and you haven't learned anything. :goodposting:

True. I'm happy for fans that have watched a team struggle and now get a taste of significant victories. Every NFL fan should get to experience that at some point. I'm just saying they don't deserve any credit today. The team gets that.

here is what I dont get, yes they were 5-5 but did you really expect there to be no adjusting period to a totally new coaching staff?two of those losses were to teams still alive in the playoffs right now. The only bad loss I see was to KC at home.

Um - season ticket holder here  and i for one never motioned for Marty to come back in week 3, let alone the whole season.. Mind you the changes in the coaching staff probably werent the best moves but many in town here didnt sell out the team and call for their heads. Those that are educated in football history knew marty's past and knew he hasnt had success in the post season. Rivers has his days, today was one of them and he has others that are awful. Bottom line is, to MOP point, they got it done today when they didnt have their starters. Most wrote them off last Sunday after their win over the Titans. Most will write them off Sunday at noon when they take foxborough. This year was more successful than last and that is a nice takeaway for 2007. Here's hoping for a win in NE and a lotto ticket to phoenix.

San Diego has been flying under the radar, but they're a talented team. If you had told us prior to the season that they would've beaten the Colts in the second round of the playoffs, no one would've been surprised. The only reason it seems so shocking is because the Chargers started out the season so poorly. But they have as much talent as almost any team in the NFL and are capable of giving the Patriots all they can handle. I hope LT, Gates, and Rivers can get healthy for this one.

Way to go Tommy and Maurile!
MoP and RR -- thanks. I worked hard for this moment, buying jerseys and being a customer and whatnot.tGunZ is just being modest, though. I really couldn't have done all of this without him.

not good, but a GREAT post from my buddy EBF. People think that the Chargers somehow lost talent because of a couple of fluke losses this season? Next week will be a dogfight in Foxboro. Take the pts and make a killing.
