The Diminished Importance of Left Tackle (1 Viewer)

The offensive tackles who made the list, and their team records are: Tyron Smith (8-8)
small nitpick this is the first time Tyron Smith has played LT in the NFL and also he didn't play it in college either. I've seen many lists that have Tyron Smith as a top left tackle, I don't understand how anyone can make that classification when he hasn't played that position in the league yet.
Looks like he made the list based on his play at right tackle. The list I was grabbing from there were top players based on performance at any position.

I think this article goes along with some of the discussion that occurred in here. Props to Sigmund Bloom for tweeting it.

And yes, yet another expert that ranked Buffalo as a top offensive line.

Yea, he'll move to LT this year and Free will play RT. FWIW, Smith was solid at RT last season. The interior of the Cowboys line, not so much.As pertaining to this article, da 'Boys have huge question marks at center and both guards. Maybe Tony better work on gettin rid of the ball even faster........

Facts are stubborn things, but statistics are more pliable. ~Author UnknownI'm not sure at all the point of this article but the stats show that the interior offensive linemen are taken later in the draft and the top OLTs are taken highest in the draft. The history of the draft is something that anyone can look up so going back to the topic of the diminished importance of the OLT, well the evidence based in the hold hard facts of the NFL draft clearly show that the NFL decision makers do not agree with this idea.Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital. ~Aaron Levenstein

I hate sack stats. These websites like PFF count up all the sacks, assign blame to the lineman and move on. as if it was that simple.

first off how do we know it was the lineman's fault? Unless you have the blocking scheme and the play call and the line audibles, you don't really know who is to blame for a sack. There are many situations where these websites get it wrong. and the all-22 camera is not going to make it any better.

For example let's say the play is a 3 step drop. Let's also say the QB recognizes a blitz and slides the whole line to the overload. Pre-snap another blitzer shows up and goes unblocked. Who's fault is that? The left tackle who was told to slide right? That's how PFF is gonna grade it.

The next two weeks will be big tests, but so far Buffalo has given up just 1 sack that wasn't really a sack, the fewest hurries in the league, have rushed for the highest yards per carry in the league and are 3rd for rushing yards per game.

Man, just imagine what they could do if they had actual ProBowl offensive linemen on the team! ;)
