The Do Nothing Senate (1 Viewer)

Even with all of the impeachment stuff going on, the House continues to pass bills. Off the top of my head, here is some of the legislation they have passed over the last several months:

1. Strengthen the ACA by protecting pre-existing conditions.

2. Universal background checks.

3.  Protect against further interference in elections.

4. Sanctions against Turkey for invading Syria.

And I believe bills on infrastructure, climate change, and lowering drug prices are in committee and will he voted on early next year. In other words, all of the issues they were elected to deal with.

But the Senate won’t take up any of these. They sit on McConnell’s desk. Yet we are told over and over that it’s a “do nothing House”; all they’re interested in is impeachment. Shouldn’t it really be called the “do nothing Senate?”

Yes...but right now Trump has been louder than anyone on the left.

McConnell should be on blast 24-7 for his tactics...and Trump along with him because I believe it is being done for him.  But it isn't...instead of every Dem Rep and Senator calling for the GOP in the Senate to do their job...they do nothing (I guess that is where they earn their name a bit from Trump...because they seem too afraid to do a damn thing about it).

In addition...we have Representatives sitting in and obstructing the inquiry rather than doing their actual jobs.  They are causing delays and making it harder for others to do what they are supposed to be doing.  That too should be everywhere...but it isn't.

Time for the Democrats to get some back bone and call this out for what it is....and the main candidates for the presidency should also be saying a lot of this.

Oops I stand corrected. They ARE doing something today: McConnell and Graham are introducing a bill condemning the House impeachment.
Nothing like showing their true colors...facts and evidence don't matter...just party.  Just power.

How about introduce the bills the house has passed that are already on his desk.  I have pushed here and elsewhere for people to contact their senators and Representatives.  Tell them that what is going on is not right...push McConnell to bring passed house legislation to the floor and let the process happen as it is supposed to.  Enough is enough and if they won't do it...time to vote in people who will.

Government is broken...and despite the claims of POTUS...the GOP is the currently the one breaking it.

If any of it mattered anymore, I'd much rather be rid of McConnell than the President. The Garland stall, Kavanaugh ramrod & general blockade are far more egregious and treasonously unAmerican than any Trump shenanigans.

I’m greedy. Let’s dump both.

The do-nothing senators' constituents seem quite fine with the Senate doing nothing; in fact, many prefer it.
Absolutely. They're being "paid" to achieve stasis, which is apparently the optimum condition for the foxes to clean out the coop with the least notice or objection

While the President is an unprecedented distillation of human instincts, the conditions which have provided for his & McConnell's tenures will still remain. Until this nation once again becomes as much citizens as customers, the American Miracle is a blown gig.

ETA: For background, I predicted Palin '12 on these boards - not knowing she wouldnt stay on task, being that close - because I saw where general selfishness, xenophobia & media manipulation were taking us, so this aint a Trump reaction.

Disagree. McConnell is pulling all kinds of crap that I don’t like at all- but it’s part of the order. He’s part of the system of checks and balances which has done so much for this country.

Trump is outside of the order- he is an unhealthy threat to us. I would rather any established politician over him no matter how much I might disagree with them.

You and yours are why these were my first six words in this thread. It frankly flabbergasts me how y'all don't see that.

Perhaps.

When I get a chance to remove something I know is bad I will chose to do it.

Don't you know it's an election year? McConnell is simply taking the same approach he took with with Merrick Garland. Run the clock out and hope for a miracle in the 2020 elections.

Agree - for years you hear people (including me!) say things like “do nothing” when really most of us want them to do what we want.  I will say the problem I have is when something isn’t even voted on.  I don’t think that should be part of the process.  Even if it’s something that would pass that I don’t agree with.
