The Draft In Rear View Mirror (1 Viewer)

As I'm sitting here mulling over whether I am doing the right thing with my starting lineup today (is starting Antonio Bryant a good idea, picking HOU or ARI DST's, etc., don't answer those it's just the kind of end of season FF questions that make this game weird, interesting and fun...) I am thinking back over the draft and how I came to have these decisions and trying to figure out now what I will be trying to figure out next season, in particular what would have been the right moves in the draft.

The key - most obvious statement ever - is to draft great players.

But you can't get Andre Johnson in Round 3 or 5 or 7 or 9, you want to get the next Andre Johnson (or the closest thing to it) in Rounds 3/5/7/9.

It seems to me if someone drafted well in Round 1 at RB or WR, well that's very doable (though of course no sure thing).

But if you have Chris Johnson or MJD or ADP PLUS Ray Rice, then you are doing very well.

I can't think of another RB2 candidate like Rice, to me he seems to win that category. I am not even sure it is right to call this a 'sleeper' pick because after all someone could have very well have thought he would do great and targeted him in rounds 3-7. Or maybe drafting a Miles Austin in say Rounds 9-12 would have been a 'sleeper'. (Maybe that's just terminology, so I don't want to get hung up that, answer however you like). This could apply to auction drafts too, Rice would have gone very, very cheap at the end of a lot of auctions I bet.

Who is the early/mid-round version of Ray Rice for WR2's and QB's and how did you realize they would do so well?

First of all, I think this is a good time to ask this because people who made their semifinals are still here, but may not be next week, and also a lot of this is fresh right now.

Really, some people did the right but easier calls on RB1 and WR1, but I'm just wondering who hit on RB2 and WR2, or a lower round/cheaper QB, and if they will impart their knowledge on what they were thinking when they made those picks.

Thanks.

probably Schaub...he likely fell into the 7-10 range for QB's and performed like a #1....and Austin would be a WR.

As Jason Wood (I think it was Wood - maybe it was Tefertiller or Haseley) said, RBs proved once again to be more valuable than WRs, however RBs are less predictable.

Based on what I've been looking at for years is that over 60 percent of the top 12 RBs from one year do not return to that status the following season. A significant number of Rbs available in the mid rounds are often great bargains, which allows you to load up on impact players at other positions earlier.

DeSean Jackson was a huge hit as a WR2 pick
yeah but his number aren't totally off the charts or unexpected
:excited:OP was asking for early/mid round guys drafted as WR2's who have made a difference on their teamsDeSean ranks #7 in FBG scoring, even higher in leagues that give bonuses for long distance TDs or PR TDs, yet was available in rounds 4 and 5 and drafted as a WR2. DeSean (and Brandon Marshall) fits what the OP was asking for. Miles Austin and Sidney Rice weren't drafted as WR2's. They were lottery tickets/WW guys that hit.
