The Eagles Are Still Alive (1 Viewer)

The Eagles hold a key tiebreaker over both the Giants and Cowboys. The Eagles only have 1 division loss, while the others have 2 losses. Should the Eagles win out, they finish 8-8. Its one of two scenarios:

Eagles win out AND

1. Giants lose to the jets and Cowboys.

2. Cowboys lose to the Buccaneers.

OR

1. Giants lose to the Jets and Redskins.

2. Cowboys lose to the Giants.

Either combo crowns the Eagles as NFC East champs at 8-8.

So this involves the Eagles doubling their win total from september - november in the last 4 weeks of the season? Oh and the rest of the division losing out? Yeah good luck with that.

Well they just got Vick back - maybe that will spark them.

The amazing thing, however unlikely, is that should the Giants and Cowboys lose their next two, and the Eagles win their next two, The Eagles would control their own fate going into the last week of the season against the Redskins. They win and their in.

This team turns their effort on and off more than any other. The loss to Arizona is the one that was right there for them - the seattle game they give same effort on d as yesterday and they probably get a W too. This year is shaping out to have the most week 17 meaningful games of recent memory.

If the Cowboys beat TAM and lose to PHI, they're 8-7 heading into the final week.

If the Giants lose to WAS and the NYJ, they're 7-8 heading into the final week.

If Philly can beat NYJ and DAL, they're 7-8 heading into the final week.

At that point, Dallas would control their own destiny. But a Philly win over Washington would give the Giants one of those 'heads you win, tails I lose' situations. Beat the Cowboys and send the Eagles to the playoffs; lose and send Dallas in as NFC East champs.

The two biggest loses of the year were the 49ers game which Ronnie Brown threw away and the Cardinals game which the whole team threw away.

Those two Really Really hurt. There are others but those are the two games that just jump out at you.

Eagles are done. Although the Giants and Cowboys aren't much better one of those two teams will win enough games to lock up the East.

This will probably happen and the Eagles will end up losing to the Skins. Crazy year.......

The Chiefs are still alive as well:

Chiefs win out AND:

1. Denver loses to New England and Buffalo

AND

2. Oakland loses to Detroit OR San Diego

AND

3. San Diego loses to Baltimore OR Detroit OR Oakland

I tried to find a way to get Buffalo into the playoffs, but it looks like they lose all tiebreakers.

Agreed.

Eagles and Chiefs both still alive.

Eagles need to win out and hope the Giants lose to the Jets and the Cowboys lose to the Giants.

Chiefs need to win out and hope Denver loses next week (to Buffalo) and San Diego loses one of the next 3.

This is the scenario that would play out IF the Eagles find a way not to blow it next week. The key wild card though is who has more heart in New York next week? Jets or Gints?

The real shame in all of thise is the blown opportunities all year by the Eagles. They could have won just 1 more game during the season and would be in control of their own destiny. Falcons, Niners, Bills, Bears, Cardinals; 3 of which were at home. Any one of those turned into a W and the Eagles are looking much better right now but the complete heartlessness of the team is what got them here. They will need a miracle to give them a 2nd chance at redemption.

The NY teams play at 1 on Saturday. Eagles-Cowboys is at 4, so Eagles should know if game means anything or not.

You could really say that about any team. I think the Cowboys more than any team in the entire NFC have blown a lot of opportunities. Had they taken care of the Jets/Lions/Cardinals/Giants, heck they could be looking at a potential bye the first week.

Yet the Cowboys still control their own destiny because they did play in enough games. Eagles barely showed up in at least 3 games and quit in a bunch of others.

Not many teams have had fourth quarter leads in all but one loss...double digit lead in a couple, last 8 minute lead in several. Dallas is the only one in the same ballpark as far as "blowing it"...Dallas' meltdowns have been more spectacular, but with less of them.

By blowing out the Jets, the Eagles acheived two things:

1) They stayed alive in the playoff race.

2) They have turned the Jets game against the Giants into a must win for the Jets, which increases

the possibility that the Jets win that game. Although the Giants will be just as desparate. Here's hoping

Ryan's defense can force Eli into the turnover machine that he's shown he still can be.

The Lions are at the opposite end, they have had 4 spectacular come backs and another game they hung on to against the Vikings that it looked like the had blown. Pretty much the same for the Tebow-lead Broncos, could have easily had four more loses.

The Jets can lose to the Giants and still make the playoffs. They win the tiebreakers over Cincinnati and San Diego, but lose tiebreakers to Tennessee and Oakland and Denver. They win a 3-way tie with San Diego & Cincy but it looks like they lose all other 3-way ties.

Yeah, if the Jets lose to the Giants they need:-- to beat Miami

-- have Cincinnati lose to either BAL or ARI

-- have Tennessee lose to Houston

-- have either Oakland lose one game or Denver lose two games

Not all that unlikely.

Tennessee could also lose to Jacksonville.
