The Funniest Comedian Right Now? (1 Viewer)

I recently started watching every Hannibal Burress video I could find on youtube. Unfortunately, of the 10 or so videos most just recycle the same bits over and over.

He's still really funny, but I wish he had some new material.

His bit about not putting a napkin on his lap had me rolling.

I'm not much a fan. He'll say some jokes and I'll chuckle or crack a smile and say to myself "that's clever" but I've yet to see something from him that makes laugh hysterical like comedians do (like Tosh...when he's on his A game).

Original Kings of Comedy is hands down the best comedy special I have ever seen.

Ricky Gervais Out of England is stellar as well.

Bernie Mac's piece on the Kings of Comedy special is one of the top 5 stand-up comedy pieces of all time, imo. Hilarious.

Bernie Mac's piece on the Kings of Comedy special is one of the top 5 stand-up comedy pieces of all time, imo. Hilarious.

I don't really care for Katt. Just doesn't do it for me. I'm not against swearing, I just think guys like Kat use it as a crutch. It's one of the reasons only a few of the comics from Def Jam stood out for me.For Kings of Comedy, I loved Bernie Mac and D.L. Hughley. Harvey was ok and Cedric the Entertainer blows.

Need to add Lewis Black.

Production value of King of Comedy is so bad hard to believe it was made only ten years ago. Bernie Mac's set didn't hold up either. The 10-minute bit on his gay nephew and the ######ed one didn't age well.

Saw him perform last night in Newport, RI...so, so funny. I actually saw him on the sidewalk when I was looking for a spot to park off the main strip. I regret not yelling out the window, "hey, Bill, go F#&% yourself". Fans of his will understand this wouldn't have been an insult.

I've heard that he's very good too. I'll have to see him live because I haven't found him to be very funny in his Comedy Central specials. It could be he has to edit his stuff to get aired on tv.Like that clip, I chuckled but it didn't stand out from any of the other comics I've watched doing a "Catch a Predator" bit.

Saw Bob Marley for the first time live about a week ago...absolutely hilarious, bent over laughing....something about his delivery and voice just hits my funny bone and I wasn't the only one. He killed.Also saw Bill Burr last month...and his humor is really close to my own, is my favorite current comedian, love his pod cast and he was very good...but I didn't laugh as much as Marley's show.

Louis C.K. at the moment, for me.

I'm late to the party, I think. Maybe, in five years, his stuff will sound like crap.

But, right now, it's working well. When I try to think about why it works, well, it's the same old material, it's the same old trying to seem edgier than the last guy. It's the same old, same old. But he's doing it well right now. That's about as far as I go in analysis, as deconstructing comedy can sometimes kill it.

Louis C.K. is funniest now, for me.

I think there's a good chance he'll still be one of the top guys in the future. He makes a point of scrapping his act each year or two and starting from scratch. Not many guys do that. Jim Gaffigan for example, whom I really like, has several CDs out but only has about 2 CDs of material. He uses a lot of the same jokes, just changes a few words. He does create new material but he doesn't seem to do so to the extent that CK does. It could change though as he does more TV specials.

Ditto Bill Hicks. If Bill Clinton didn't have him put down, I wonder whether he wouldn't have just circled the drain. Then again, maybe that observation is a by-product of his abbreviated career. We'll never know.
 
Then some just hang on and I don't know why. Don Rickles is revered. I get that he's a pioneer of the insult comic. But I saw him and the act was dated. For instance he did about 15 minutes on the Japanese but it didn't involve current issues and topics. It was grounded in the anti-Japanese sentiment from the world war. His imitation of a Japanese person is taken right out of an old black and white movie stereotype. The black glasses, buck teeth and camera clicking away. It doesn't hold up.

I was disappointed in Rickles act. From how highly he's talked about I thought he'd be like George Carlin in that he continues to create more material. Or at least update it enough so it's not stale.

Same with Sam Kinison. Some think he wouldn't have lasted. I saw a documentary on him and it said prior to his death, he'd been working on all new material. He wasn't going to do any more gay bashing. He didn't like that part of his act.I think he had strong enough material and talent that he'd have gone on to do well.

I'm guessing part of it was because he hung out with the Rat Pack. And it seems Hollywood types claim the Rat Pack is still cool. But they aren't. I don't think there are many people with Sinatra on their iPods. I don't know any Dean Martin songs. I doubt "Candy Man" gets many downloads these days.
 
Anyone see Pete Holmes? Caught him on Conan and he was pretty entertaining. I wouldn't say he's the best, but he's got some good material.

 
Saw ralphie May last year. He was great till he went on a political rant at the end.

Saw dave Atell last year, he was fantastic but could barely stand up with all the drugs on board

Laugh all you want but pauley shore absolutely killed when we saw him.

John caparullo is really funny, we have seen him 3 times.

 
, John Mulaney is my number one right now. Listen to his album New In Town, it's a riot from beginning to end.

 
Another really good one who may have already been mentioned is Russell Peters. Indian descent who bags on every race possible. Funny!

 
I'm sure guys like C.K. and a few others will dominate, but I'll add a few of my favorites, some that have been mentioned, some that haven't.

I'll echo what some have said, Stephen Lynch is awesome. I feel like the fact that they're songs makes them funny and entertaining.

Hannibal Burress is great too. I had tickets to see Aziz Ansari a few years ago, and Burress opened for him. I actually think Hannibal was funnier than Aziz.

My favorite at the moment is Tom Segura. Hilarious. It's a combination of the delivery and the material. Check out "Pregnant while Mexican on youtube.

I never appreciated his stand up so I haven't watched much but he was on the Heidi and Frank show yesterday and I was literally :lmao: listening to him talk about a gay wedding he went to. He was funny the whole time but that was the hardest I've laughed in a long time.

Funny clip. He is by far the funniest stand up I have ever seen in person.
