Didn’t see a thread. Wife and I are in season three and binging away still.

Scratches the Irish/English/Swords/light sorcery/poor hygiene itch.

I know we have talked about it. Maybe in the Vikings thread or just the general catch all thread. Good show, one of my favorites.

Uhtred’s kill scene over Ubba in season 1 is one of the best ever…literally both wifey and I yelled out at TV when it happened.  The supporting cast throughout majority of show has been top notch:  Father Beocca and King Alfred being some of my faves

Love this show.  Binged this the month of March.  Cannot believe how this show isn't talked about more, its so good.

Uhtred son of uhtred is fantastic.   Alfred and his story is also great.   Really well done show and the final season is a lesson on how to end one

Great show, seems to be universally praised by anyone that tries it out.

It's over now but they're doing a follow-up movie that is already filming has already completed filming.

Destiny is all!!

Watched it all and loved it.

Ealhswith (Alfred's wife) rivals Wendy Byrde on the "someone should just kill her" scale.

Pretty sure this is covered in the Netflix thread so no dedicated thread just to the show. Just finished the series this week, liked the ending a lot just sad it's over.

Super happy to hear there is a follow up movie coming.

Love this show, enjoyed it more than Vikings and I loved Vikings. Fascinating as both Vikings/Last Kingdom touched on some of the same historical characters/events.

She becomes much more tolerable in the final season.

But you'll be happy to hear she's not in the follow-up movie due to scheduling conflicts.

I think Vikings at its height was better, but TLK was more consistent throughout its whole run.

Vikings also went on for too long.  They could have cut the entire Iceland storyline, at a minimum.

I can't think of many shows that went beyond 5 or 6 seasons where the quality didn't suffer badly as it went on.

:goodposting: Loved how they ended it.. Should be mandatory watching for any show writer on how to end a series.

There are a series of books written by Bernard Cornwell that detail Uhtred's saga. The title of the first one is The Last Kingdom. They are well done with interesting plots and twists and sufficient history to satisfy your curiosity about Vikings/Danes and Alfred the Great. Recommended. The series is faithful to the books.

I found the books and series most interesting when Alfred was an active character.

The fight with Ubba is presented a little differently in the books. Uhtred in the book prevails due to luck. As it was a surprise attack Ubba came rushing out of his tent without putting on his footwear. As he engages Uhtred he slips on the entrails of a fallen warrior rendering him vulnerable.

This made sense as Uhtred at this time was not a match for Ubba.
