What is up with the trend I see where the word "paragraph" is shortened to  "graf"?

Any reader of PGWodehouse (Bertie & Wooster) knows this phenomenon is a century old. While a staunch lawn-defender, i am also a compulsive abbreviator (imagine what you folks would have to endure if i wasn't?) and have no prob w the trend.

To be fair - this thread is about me getting old.  I was not old in the other threads.
