The Newsroom - new HBO series from Aaron Sorkin (5 Viewers)

I liked both episodes a lot. I especially like the Neal story line and the Obama administrations crack down on whistler blowers.

Its also nice to see Neal still work after winning so much money on that Indian game show.

Doesn't seem like much effort was put into these scripts. Don/Sloane scenes have been brutal.

I assume Kat Dennings saves the day otherwise why did she take this part?

Sorkin's Sanctimonious Storytelling returns tonight.
So I'm reading the postings in here and it hits me that I missed the third season premier. Then I look again and I realized I missed the first two episodes. Guess I'm not that excited for the new season.

I don't think too many actors pick parts based on their character saving the day or not.

Cannot be said enough Only thing that whole brunch routine was missing was a laugh track. Awful.

All of his relationship banter is bad. Always has been, though I think it can be saved with good acting, as it was with Krause and Huffman on Sportsnight. Outside of that, Charlie Wilson's War is the only screenplay he's written that I like the sexual tension/interplay between characters. See also: hottest Emily Blunt scene. He seems to like trying to nail awkward but it's rarely done well. I get that he likes the idea of people so consumed with their careers that they never learned how to live with others trying to get close to others personally. Just seems rare that the chemistry is there. The Don guy is awful. Though Munn does about as well as can be with it. She's done her homework on his style.

Can I reasonably hope we've seen the last of Meryl Streep's daughter in this? Please?

I just don't think she decided to play the part of the snotty little-sister on a six-off final season. She's going to get some red meat and likely play a pivotal part in saving ACN. Wouldn't be surprised if her and Jim have a storyline. Jim ending up with Maggie might be a little too spot-on.

It was a good episode, BTW. Which is why it pains me so much to suffer through the corny, garbage episodes. We get all-too-infrequent glimpses of this shows' potential.

Some of the worst writing I've seen from him. Still, enough there to be entertained. And yeah, Lieberman was gold. I didn't realize he was showrunner for the Office it's last few seasons, as well as a producer on Newsroom.

Loved it

The guy who played the judge was the guy who owned the snakes they used to shoot a commercial in a double episode of Studio 60 back in the day.

Really enjoying this season. B.J. Novak is terrific at playing smarmy #####'s you just wanna punch in the face.

I think it's safe to say Jim and Maggie will get back together by the end of the series. All signs pointing in that direction.

Sad to see this show end next week. I thought tonight was great. (other than Jim and Maggie)

They needed some sort of massive emotional event for the finale and Charlie's funeral obviously qualifies.

Thought the scenes with Will and his father were very clever. Didn't see that twist coming at all.

I would totally let Sloan emasculate me on the national TV.

Holy hell was this last episode a disaster. Absolute disaster that spits in the face of sexual assault victims.

I thought this season has been excellent. Love the over top Sorkiness.
I should've guessed something big happened last night when this thread was on the front page all night long.

I actually think this is been the best season.

Great episode. Sad to see Charlie go but not surprised that it happened. Jim and Maggie getting back together isn't a surprise either. Sorkin clearly has a thing for star-crossed lovers on this show.

Have no idea where they'll go in the finale. All the major storylines appear to have been wrapped up. Unless they all band together to kill Ryan.

The guy in the cell was his dad? Was he real or just his imagination?

Just watched this week's episode. From the scenes with Don and the Princeton student, where he explains how he tracked her down. Her bio says she loves the Phat Lady and Princeton grad told him its a sandwich at Hoagie Haven (not a band). Since its practically down the road from where I live:

Hoagie Haven and the Phat Lady

My son and his friends go there at least once a week. Pretty sure he's there right now. I know, no one cares. I just thought it was pretty cool.

that chick would be fat if she were eating that all the time.

Rape prevention in a bun.

Sorkin really mailed it in here.

You left Charlie as kind of a pathetic figure. He kind of went against Pruit but only for the firing aspect not the content. Was a weak way to go out.

The Jim and Maggie scene was ok. But kind of uninspired. Nothing compared to the Sex and the City tour bus scene. Not close.

For the talent involved they got about as little as possible.

I thought that was very well done. Also enjoyed that Jim's goto was the original Star Trek. It's been a good season over all. I like that they're taking a last stab at the disappointing state of the journalism right now. Too bad they're done, they could have gone on with that for a while and kept it pretty topical.

Yup, agree with you 100%. I watched the episode again last night. I might watch them all again start to finish since it's only a small number of episodes overall. God I want to make babies with Olivia Munn.
