The NHL emails me everyday and I want it to stop (1 Viewer)

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
Back in November, I went on the NHL website and purchased a Ducks shirt that my daughter liked. When I bought it, at the very end it asked if I wanted to receive special promotions to be emailed to me. 99 out of 100 times, I will always say no. But for some reason I thought, "What could it hurt to see NHL stuff on sale." This was a horrible decision on my part.

The next morning, I got an email from them that said, "How about a sweatshirt to go with that t-shirt?" First thing I thought was, "Well, that seems a little aggressive in their sales pitch." Less than 24 hours after my purchase they're already trying to sell me more crap. And not even at a discount or sale price. It bothered me, but I figured that's what I get for saying yes to emails.

The next morning, I get the same email. Now I'm pissed. So I click on the link to unsubscribe to the email and enter my reason in. It comes back and says, "Sorry to see you go. Your email has been removed from our list. Please give 24 to 48 hours for it to take effect."

So the next three days, at 7 am exactly, I continue to get the same email. "How about a sweatshirt to go with that t-shirt?" On day 4, I go back under the email and click unsubscribe to remove my email. Success! Or at least that's what it said. But after another week of every day being asked "How about a sweatshirt to go with that t-shirt?" nothing is changing.

I finally go to the NHL site and find a way to contact them. They reply back to me the next day and apologize for the emails. He says that he's gone in and removed my email address. Another week of emails at 7 asking "How about a sweatshirt to go with that t-shirt?" :hot:

I reply back to the support email and they say, "Sorry. We've escalated the problem." And then I never hear back from them. And by them, I mean support. Because each morning I still hear from them asking "How about a sweatshirt to go with that t-shirt?"

So last week I emailed them back and said it's still occurring. They apologized and said it's been removed. I reply right back and say, "I doubt that. I've been told it's been removed several times and it never is."

I get a reply back, "Sorry to hear that. Now it's removed."

As of today at 7 am, I am still getting an email everyday asking "How about a sweatshirt to go with that t-shirt?"

Is there anyway I can get this to stop? Sure, I could just set up a rule to have it sent to Junk, but it's much further than that, now. Now I'm pissed and I feel like doing that would be admitting defeat. Any advice on what I can do now?

Compile a list of them along with the email responses promising to take care of the problem and then send an email to your state's Attorney General. Copy the NHL's support email address on it.

I bet it gets truly resolved within about 10 minutes at that point.

Whatever you do don't mention Brian Burke and Wayward Ditchpigs in the same sentence during your replies.

Did you register on the site? If so, login and change your email address to gbettman@nhl.com.

This is kind of the way I want to go. I just didn't know who the correct person was to notify.

find out the email address for their marketing department or whatever the relevant department is and put up a casual encounter ad on craigslist and post the email or link to it. Whatever email you use will get flooded with **** pics.

I doubt its a list problem. Since it is the same message it's likely a stuck message in a server queue. Sounds like there is a transmission problem so they don't think is being delivered, but it actually is. Its somewhere in the path between NHL and you, I would guess on NHL's email servers (or more likely whoever they outsource their marketing to). At some point the queue will be flushed and it will stop. If its only 1 message a day consider yourself lucky.

If you care to see where it is stuck compare 2 message headers -- or PM them to me -- and you should be able to figure it out.

I don't know what this means. And I don't think it's going to be flushed out. It's been going on for almost 3 months.

What webmail client do you use or do you use outlook?

It's coming in through Yahoo email.

Are the headers exactly the same (other than times/dates) See if you see a message ID and it the same? If you want you can PM them to me, up to you.

Or you can send the headers to the NHL and they should troubleshoot the problem, although it could be an issue with Yahoo or someone in between, I just think the likely culprit is NHL. With the headers it should be an easy problem for them to solve. If it was a problem with their list, you wouldn't receive the same email over and over.

I get spam from Active Golf every day. 4 degrees out? "Play Golf Today!" but it goes in my spam folder.

OK. I sent them a bunch of my emails. We'll see what happens. I appreciate the help, GB!

NP, just an FYI they will need the headers. If you fwd the emails you lose the original headers. Let me know how it turns out.

That's the thing. There are no deals. It's just asking me to buy a full price sweatshirt to go with the t-shirt.
