The Official 2010 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

As you know Bard came in the 7th the other night against the Yankees, bases juiced, 1 out, top of the order. Strikes out the Captain and Swisher. Some quotes about his finishing pitch against Swisher:

"Nobody throws a two-seamer 99," Bill Hall said. "Nobody."

Bard actually went to the video room to look at the pitch again. "That was moving," he said. "Never saw that before."

“That last pitch he threw at me, man, 99 miles per hour,” Swisher said. “It’s not supposed to move like that.”

This thread always seems to die when Boston is nowhere near 1st place.

Doesn't do much to help the bandwagoner image which Sox fans are always quick to refute.

This team is on the hook for how much when it comes to Beckett / Lackey?
Beckett: 68 million/4 years until 2014Lackey: 82.5 million/5 years until 2014
Good thing it is somewhat off set with Buchholz and his cheap salary.
Beckett I understood, and still don't think it's an AWFUL dealBut I always thought they paid too much for LackeyLester and Buchholz being cheap definitely help the rotation's overall average salary

So is this how it felt all those years being an Oriole or Blue Jay or TB fan? Looking up and seeing the two best (or two of the best) teams ahead of you in the division.

Sox have 73 wins. Only one team in baseball, outside of the AL East has more wins (San Diego). Has the team with the third best record in all of baseball ever missed the playoffs (obviously talking about since the introduction of the wild card)?

Not to mention they've done it fielding a triple A team for over half the season. Not bad. If the Sox remained healthy they'd probably have a 10 game lead in the East.

In 1981, the team with the best record in baseball (the Reds) didn't make the playoffs at all. They played .611 ball but missed the playoffs entiely. MLB had the team with the best record in the first half of the season in each division face the team with the best record in the second half. The Reds had the best overall record but did not win either half.

Well that was dumb.

It's always cool when your team loses, you see the rival team chasing them winning, you go take your dog for a walk and see said rival team ended up losing. It's like found money.

When I went outside the Rays had just lost and the Red Sox were up in the 8th. Good times.
