The Official 2011 Boston Red Sox Thread (2 Viewers)

I mean, they still have to make the playoffs, right?l
ummm...no?
I saw an interesting proposition cappy. If the Sox win, and the Rays win just to maintain pace, they Yanks will be forced to play that final series. I think what you need is: a. a yankee win todayb. a split in the bronxc. somehow Baltimore splitsThat leaves a five game lead for the Yanks with what will be six to play, you're still 2 out and you take your chances. Then the Yanks can play for the knockout of Boston this weekend, you take care of business against the Jays, cut this thing to a game or even and then the Yanks mail in next week with Chris Dickerson hitting third. It made a pretty convincing case about why you DON'T want a sweep here. You want to keep things a bit fluid. But I guess the most important thing is, Boston to keep losing.

GOOD LORD, Lackey is beyond terrible. The Sox get him 11 runs in 4 innings. I said 11 runs in 4 innings...

and he can't get out of the 5th for the W.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

8 games to go, up by 2, I'll take it :pickle:

Anyone who thought they would sweep yesterday rolling out Lackey / Weiland was smoking the good ####. A sweep was expected and all they needed. Now they have real pitchers pitching, will finish off the O's. Yankees series will be a good one tho

So Im a bad person cuz I am trash talking with the fans of the Yankees chief rival? Must be a lot of bad people out there. Isnt that what sports rivalries are about?

I certainly don't think that you are a bad person. The way that you spoke about your wife when she was being attacked in a ffa thread was very genuine and demonstrated the love that you have for her. Great qualities for a man to have! Maybe being from a different generation I don't completely understand the need to jump into a discussion that others are having simply to insult. I have been a Sox fan my entire life. I kind of miss the curse and misery of years gone by. If necessary, I can handle disappointment once again. Might be able to rid ourselves of the post 2004 fan base!

Hows this working out for you?

 they still have a 2 game lead? The Sox are in trouble if the Yanks, with a magic number of 3, start resting guys Worst case scenario is the Rays win the next three, forcing the Yanks to step on the gas this weekend and take 2 of 3 o win the division and then have Dickerson and Golson batting 3/4 for the final Rays series while Betances starts games. My prediction at this moment, we get to a one game playoff and Boston wins handily.

7 games to go, up by 2, I'll take it :pickle:Was at the game tonite, scored a pair of $150 tix for $40 each (home base pavilion). Not the best game, but it was a beautiful night and the scoreboard never showed a Rays run. There's two ways for them to make the postseason (altho the Angels need to be watched now, probably more of a threat than the Rays now that I look at schedules)

Season ends with the Rays with 6 at home against the Jays and a resting Yanks team. Sox go for 6 on the road.

Sox are obviously favored, but I like the Rays chances. (unless theyvget hammered in New York)

Using the resting Yankees theory, the Sox have 3 against NY as well.

Home plate pavilion is a great area to watch a ballgame from. My wife and I always sat there when tickets were available. Just a great view, especially on a night like we had yesterday. As a youngster, Dad would always try to get us seats behind home plate. I can still remember the anticipation of watching Ted Williams stroll from the on deck circle to the batter's box.

Choking haaahdAnyone saying they don't deserve it though...that's why they play 162 instead of 16
The Angels are 2 back now as well (or 2.5, I forget). Sox going on the road for 6 to NY and Baltimore. 2-4 trip? Realistically?I'd be pretty surprised at this point if they make it in.

thanks to the Yankees cleaning up the Sox mess

I can't see how the Sox don't make it, but I will say this, a play in game or games would be amazing theater.

I just wish the matchup was AJ-Lackey today.

At least they are putting up a fight tonight.

A win here could do wonders for their psyche (although it has already done mucho damage to their bullpen)

Ahhhh, Jacoby, damn he is a helluva player.

OK, coolstandings updated, now Sox at 88, Tampa at 11%. Still way too close for comfort. A Sox win / Tampa loss would go a long way to calming my nervousness tomorrow...
