I think so. Streets are pretty well plowed and cleared. As are the sidewalks in DC. I can understand need to shovel snow and clear cars, but snow stopped around 1pm yesterday, and most did so then.

Yeah, my street was pretty icy too. It's okay to drive on if you don't drive too fast though.

I was surprised at how bad they were this morning. I know its cold and wasn't expecting to see pavement everywhere but I thought the plows would have made better progress overnight. I'm in Arlington.

It's interesting in that the sleet underneath the snow can be lived with if you have the snow between your tires and it, but once the first car impacts it it exposes the moisture and that immediately freezes once the air gets at it. The ground was warm enough and the snow insulating enough that it wasn't completely frozen through. So for the first car down an unplowed or treated street, it wasn't that bad. Every car after that went in that cars tracks is driving on solid ice.

the problem is the big rain we got right before the storm.. it washed away all the road treatments.. being under 10 degrees last night didn't help either.. I work in herndon

I'm out in Loudon, but I'm in the town of Leesburg, not far from 7. We didn't see a plow until 4:00 yesterday. Day 13 of snow days. yeah.

I didn't see pre-treatment Sunday. It would have been a waste. And yeah, this is difficult a string of conditions as they're likely to face. We still haven't seen a truck on my street.

Yeah, I'm about done with this crap for this year. Sunday morning I'm happy to see our maple trees budding, and now there's snow on the ground again.
3 inches around the MD/PA line, supposedly about 8 inches in Ellicott City and 15 inches in A.A. county. Amazing how much the amounts change within a small distance when these storms slide through.

Any recommendations for an off-the-beaten-path type of place that I've probably never been to (realize that's hard for anyone here to guess, but assume I've seen the bigger museums, and the Civil War battlefields and Presidential homes, around here) that would satisfy my inner history nerd while allowing me to enjoy the somewhat nice weather expected this weekend? (This is how I play while my wife is away.)
My current leading thoughts are: (1) short trip to Old Town and visiting the Lyceum and one or two other of the museums or houses that I haven't been to yet; (2) longer trip to Gunston Hall (George Mason's home) and Mason Neck State Park; or (3) Ball's Bluff Battlefield out by Leesburg.
Any thoughts on those, or other places I should consider?

If Lincoln's Summer Cottage interests you and you've never been, the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home where it's located are beautiful.
And if you miraculously synced up a visit with my kids' nap times, I could sneak over for a FFA cornhole and play 9 holes on their golf course. The course is awful, but it's free and almost always empty- I can play 9 there in just over an hour.

That is definitely along the lines of what I'm looking for, but I unfortunately have been to the cottage already. I went shortly after it opened, and I'm sure it's changed a lot since then, but I'll probably try something new. In other less popular Presidential-related sites, I've also been to the Wilson House in DC.
I was unaware of the golf course there though. I'll have to remember that.

Wife and I went to Union Market last Friday for lunch because I was in the mood for Korean tacos. Definitely gaining in popularity. Not overly crowded, but we did have to wander around a minute to find an open table. I think all but one spot had a vendor, so they are pretty much full now.

Anyone know other places to get Korean tacos in the area? I live near Centreville, which is Koreatown 2 (not quite up to Annandale's level yet), and I haven't come across them on any menu. Of course, pretty sure I haven't seen one Korean employee at Takorean before, so maybe I shouldn't expect to find them at a Korean restaurant.

There is a competing food truck that does them also, Far East Taco Grille. At least, they existed 2 years ago.

Need to have some work done on my front yard this spring. We have a part of the yard that is constantly void of grass, and my lawn care guy said it was due to factors of shade and roots being too close to the surface. So our conclusion was to merge the area with our already existing garden. We also decided that it was best to have it "done right once" by a landscaper, and set to a point that we could maintain it.
My question to the FFA of the DC area is does anyone have any recommendations for landscapers (good ones!) that work in NOVA? Specifically in Leesburg.

I used Cravens Nursery for some landscaping a few years ago, and was pretty happy with them. Not sure if they go out to Leesburg.

Smithsonian's a bit of a dead spot (unless you want to do the basement cafe in the Museum of the American Indian).
You generally have to cross back over Constitution and get onto Pennsylvania to get to the restaurants again. Doing, that Central is around there. It's an excellent restaurant, but may be a bit more than you're looking for.

Thank you for the suggestion. After looking at their menu and prices, yes probably more than I'm looking for. I was looking at places on Trip Advisor that were supposed to be close to the place you mentioned and saw that DC had a Hard Rock Cafe. I may try that. I couldn't find a menu online that had prices on it though. Anyone else have suggestions?

Ok, so I guess you don't need as kid friendly as the ones I mentioned. Maybe Old Ebbitt? I hesitate to suggest, as it is kind of a tourist trap, but it has more DC flavor than Hard Rock, at least.

I was about to post Old Ebbitt. I had my wedding there (in the atrium behind it). Excellent food.
If you head over towards Capitol Hill, there are a LOT of restraunts not far from the Capitol building.

Talked to a guy out front and he said they're basically testing this out (since January) and are mainly targeting sightseeing from out of town. He said locals could easily get some kind of pass? Not sure exactly what he was saying.

Anyone else's storm drain having a hard time with this rain? I have water about 5 feet from my front door because the water is all backed up out of the sewer and into the parking lot. I should have bought sand bags. I feel like I live in Old Town (except for the part about owning a multi-million-dollar 150-year-old house).

It's fortuitous that you posted this. I think it's bad everywhere right now.
I drove by my new house in Cheverly (PG/MD) and the water was coming out of the down spots like a wide open hose. The sump pump was also pushing out some water but not nearly as bad. I have standing water all over the yard. I need to hire someone to extend my down spots further away from the house. fml
