It would be soooo much fun to see a game either live or at the Verizon Center (?) when they are in Vegas.Mystics have a home game Thursday and they moved it from 7 pm to 4 pm.
Yeah I’m considering taking my kids too.I just looked at Caps site, and the 'viewing party' at the arena is FREE and open to the public. No RSVP required. Thinking of taking my hockey fan son (Ducks fan, tho). Fun to see regardless.

Are they going to kick out all the people at the Mystics game and make them line up to get back in? Because people are stubhub seem to be assuming they'll get to keep their seats. Unless there's some other reason people are snatching up every available ticket to an early season Thursday afternoon Mystics-Lynx showdown. The ladies are off to a 5-2 start this season ...I just looked at Caps site, and the 'viewing party' at the arena is FREE and open to the public. No RSVP required. Interesting...game starts at 4, games are only 40 min (4x10min) so average game is 2 hours. They ought to be able to kick everyone out in an hour. Are they going to kick out all the people at the Mystics game and make them line up to get back in? Yup. Up 3 nothing I decided to find the optimism I had buried in the darkest corners of my soul.Last night was the first that I felt like they might actually do this. Really incredible.
No, it's pretty low down the list of my favorite museums here. And it's not free like the Smithsonians. YMMV depending on kid's interests though.Heading here in a couple weeks. Is the Spy Museum worth missing other things for? We only have two full days.
The Washington Mystics and the Minnesota Lynx will play on Thursday, June 7 at 4:00 pm at Capital One Arena. The game was previously scheduled for 7:00 pm. Following the Mystics game, fans are invited to stay at Capital One Arena to watch the Washington Capitals versus Vegas Golden Knights in game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals at 8 p.m.
Mystics Fans who plan on attending the game against the Minnesota Lynx on June 7 can simply present their ticket at the gate for entry. All fans are encouraged to stay after the game and cheer on the Capitals.
I've never been, it's expensive.Heading here in a couple weeks. Is the Spy Museum worth missing other things for? We only have two full days.
But why would they want to? Ted can sell more tickets and extra concessions. Win-win for him.Interesting...game starts at 4, games are only 40 min (4x10min) so average game is 2 hours. They ought to be able to kick everyone out in an hour.
Good point. I'm hiking in from Leesburg, and the Mystics is making me think twice...But why would they want to? Ted can sell more tickets and extra concessions. Also people should remember that there were almost 15,000 for the Game 2 watch party, when the team was trailing 1-0. Obviously there will be significantly more interest now, and the stadium holds less than 20k. I assume they'll have to close the doors at some point.
I'm gonna find myself a bar somewhere on the green line and get comfortable. If something happens and I've moved to head down there postgame, so be it.
With kids, I would steer clear. You might never get within 2 blocks of the place, depending on what time you head down. And I'm talking about 3 or 4 p.m.Good point. I'm hiking in from Leesburg, and the Mystics is making me think twice...
I know people who are really into spy stuff and they like it. Personally, I was bored out of my mind in there.Heading here in a couple weeks. Is the Spy Museum worth missing other things for? We only have two full days.
FWIW the Mystics game is currently sold outBut why would they want to? Ted can sell more tickets and extra concessions. Win-win for him.

I don't think they usually sell 400 level tickets for the Mystics, but maybe they'll put them on sale here? Unless maybe he wants to avoid possible negative publicity if he basically forces people to buy a Mystics ticket to attend a watch party for a game four hours later- which is exactly what would happen if he started selling all the 400 level tickets now.It will be interesting to see if these people actually show up for the Mystics game or if they don't arrive until late in the game.FWIW the Mystics game is currently sold outI don't think they usually sell 400 level tickets for the Mystics, but maybe they'll put them on sale here? Agreed. Yeah we'd be looking at $100 for the fam.I've never been, it's expensive.
Adult (ages 12-64) - $22.95
Senior (ages 65+) - $16.95
Military, Veteran, Fire & Law Enforcement (with valid ID) - $16.95
College Student (with valid ID) - $16.95
Youth (ages 7-11) - $14.95—
Child (age 6 & under) - Free
Compared to Smithsonian (FREE) it's hard to pay a bunch for a museum. It is also moving to it's official HQ in the next year or so; I might wait until that to go, if you are coming back!
With the Smithsonian, you can move in and out of the museums as you wish. Beauty of no entrance fees!!!Agreed. Yeah we'd be looking at $100 for the fam.I've never been, it's expensive.

My vague recollection of '98 is that (1) fewer people were paying attention because they hadn't been a contender-quality team for a while like they have been in this era, but also (2) we all knew that team wasn't going to win the Cup. Even though the made the SCF they were a 4 seed that never had to play a higher seed due to early round upsets and the luck of the draw. They didn't make the playoffs the previous season (or the following season). They were already down 2-0 to a clearly superior team before they ever took the ice in DC.I don't remember the city being this excited or showing up in force back in 98'.I didn't make the trip up to witness all the people outside last night but some of them it looked as though they had a good 15 to 20k watching the game in the streets.Love that all the local bars and such are gaining from this as well,a huge boom for all.
They did ride Kolzig for the 1st 3 rounds who was really playing out of his mind but I agree they did get quite lucky with how the draw ended up for them.I will contend beating Hasek in the ECF's was one I didn't expect and then giving the Wings a series was a mountain just too high.I was at game 4 and soaked the sights in and I do remember the Wings had a large portion of fans attend and for good reason, they were that good.My vague recollection of '98 is that (1) fewer people were paying attention because they hadn't been a contender-quality team for a while like they have been in this era, but also (2) we all knew that team wasn't going to win the Cup. I didn't realize Olie the Goalie is the goaltender coach for the Caps. No wonder Holtby is doing so well! They did ride Kolzig for the 1st 3 rounds who was really playing out of his mind but I agree they did get quite lucky with how the draw ended up for them.I will contend beating Hasek in the ECF's was one I didn't expect and then giving the Wings a series was a mountain just too high.I was at game 4 and soaked the sights in and I do remember the Wings had a large portion of fans attend and for good reason, they were that good.
It was exciting for the regular fan of the sport but didn't do enough to bring in the casual fans, once Ovie showed up that was soon to change and now here we are.Now let's get this done in 5 and believe this,it will not be easy.
Yup. Lotta people getting ahead of themselves. I made this point the playoffs thread- usually the team that's ahead 3-1 also has home ice, we don't, and as a result the Caps would be underdogs in 2 of the possible 3 closeout games. It's the exact same situation the Caps were in against the Pens in 2016- Caps won Game 5 at home comfortably and came incredibly close to winning Game 6 and getting back home for a Game 7 in which they would have been favored.

I would call him more of a consultant.Scott Murray is the goalie coach and works directly under Mitch Korn who,IMO,has been the biggest reason we have seen Holtby rise to elite status.I didn't realize Olie the Goalie is the goaltender coach for the Caps. No wonder Holtby is doing so well!
When it comes to the best athletes, Ovechkin, even without a Cup, is definitely in the top 3 with Sammy Baugh and Walter Johnson. But, influence, he could be #1. I'd guess Baugh had a big influence but he joined the Redskins the same year they moved to DC so we can't really say what his influence was there. I don't really know enough of Johnson to say what his "influence" was.How about this one to banter around.Name an athlete that has had a bigger influence on a sport over Ovechkin here in D.C.?
I can name a few Skins that quickly come to mind(Green,Riggo for example)and maybe The Big E and Unseld with the Bullets but otherwise it's hard to argue against that statement being true.
I remember early on in the Ovechkin era where they were practically giving away tickets. They used to have a "buy 1 ticket, get 1 ticket free deal" with a receipt from Wendy's, and I took advantage of that a lot (basically got 2 tickets for a total of $25). It is pretty amazing how far the team has come in popularity since then. How about this one to banter around.Name an athlete that has had a bigger influence on a sport over Ovechkin here in D.C.?

And now people are paying a lot more than that for a Mystics ticket so they can be in the arena to watch the game on a TV. Here's a partial list of bars that are planning something, including a few in MD and VA.Obviously the arena is “sold out” and you can pay for them on the secondary market. Game will be on TVs outside Capital One.
There will also be watch parties outside the Navy Memorial just down 7th street, at National Harbor, and Reston Station Plaza (Wiehle Metro). Not sure why Reston doesn’t do it at the Town Center.
Monumental Sports is paying for extra WMATA hours...for an away game.
Anyone hear of other watch parties?
Oh my.Lee's Pint & Shell: 2844 Hudson St, Baltimore, MD 21224: A hip destination serving a seafood-centric menu paired with a long list of bourbon & beer. Per management, free shots are being offered after Caps' goals. IF the Caps win, there will be an open bar for one full hour after the game. Game 5 presented with SOUND ON.
Wow. That place also does 50-cent oyster happy hour on Thursday from 4-7.Oh my.
My sons mentioned wanting to go downtown. But, one of them has practice until 7:30 tonight in Centreville so no way we can make it down there for the opening faceoff. Maybe we'll try to go to Reston (even though I'm guessing that one might be lame) or National Harbor, but we might also just end up at the Glory Days down the street. Or just watch at home. Not sure I want a restaurant full of people seeing me cry.The_Man said:Wow. That place also does 50-cent oyster happy hour on Thursday from 4-7.
However, I plan to watch tonight's game like I've watched pretty much every game for the past two months, which is pounding drinks as I cower in my basement in a fetal position, interrupted only by quick commercial break sprints upstairs to get more alcohol.
Dunno, those of us who where around when that happened are getting old!!!When do they land at the airport? Remember when fans used to welcome the Redskins back?
RI feel like I heard something about a 4:30 PM arrival today on my way out the door. But Dulles says not to go.When do they land at the airport? Remember when fans used to welcome the Redskins back?
