Ok, we all know that the FBG mag is out and we all have it already, right??

Well, heres where we can talk about the other mags on the market -- the dates they hit news stands, the quality of the content, etc...

I for one already bought the FBG mag but was wondering if anyone has a heads up on when the PFW FF mag is supposed to hit stores....I buy 2 mags every year for perusing when Im away from my computer, and PFW is ALWAYS one of em because I like the game-by-game charts at the bottom of each team page. Anyone seen it on news stands yet???

I hear the ESPN mag is horrible, and Ive also heard the NFL.COM mag isnt up to snuff. FF Index is usually a quality mag but I havent taken a look at it yet.

What mags have you seen, and which one(s) do you think are worth picking up, or which one(s)s do you get every year??

I recently looked at the NFL.com mag and passed. It doesn't offer anything new for most in this forum. And unless I missed it they leave the rookies completely out of their rankings. It seemed like the authors wrote the rankings before the draft and just added a page on the rooks after the draft.

The only mag I'll ever buy from now on is Footballguys.com. And that's out of loyalty. It's nothing against their magazine or any magazine, it's just that the internet destroys magazines now with more up-to-date information. By the time a magazine hits print, the info is old.

I'll buy FF Index and the FBG mag, if I have flights with nothing to do and others are available at the airport I'll probably by a few more. Flying sucks.

the nfl.com one was horrible imo.

ff.com was all color, but not a whole lot of info. Very glad FBG went with black and white instead.

I recently brought Athlon Sports Fantasy Mag. On the cover they say that they teamed up with Grogan Sports to do this magazine. They only raeson I brought it was to have something to read while in the hospital with the wife (having a baby).

I wanted to save it so I didn't read it yet.

Anyone one knows anything about Athlon Sports or Grogan? Are they any good?

Every year I buy the Fantasy Football Por Forecast as it usually gives me everything I look for. Even though last year I was somewhat disappointed with it, I'll likely take the plunge this year even though I already bought the FBG mag.

I can't see a need to buy ANY magazine, even the FBG one. What info is in the FBG magazine, let alone one of the others, that I can't find here with the internet subscription?

The magazine led me to this site, and after I found it, I gave the magazine away to a rookie draftor who could make better use of it.

No offense to FBG, because the magazine was wonderful, but I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase of ANY magazine with so much more (and more current) info available on the Internet!

 Unless I need a little material for the plane or takin' care of a little business in the bathroom, I've had a hard time justifying the $$$ to buy a magazine when it's outdated the nano-second it comes off the presses. If I were to buy any fantasy football magazines out there though, FBGs would be it! I just have a hard time paying money for anything in print that is also available online for a fraction of the price (or free)....updated on a daily basis. But that's just me.

The only reason I ever buy a fantasy magazine is so I can have something to read while I float in the pool.

Joe, the content in your book is outstanding, but you seriously have to sink a little bit more money in the design.

I had the choice of buying your book or Fantasy Football.com's magazine today, and I bought there's SOLELY based upon the look of it.

If you want to attract 'casual or new' fantasy football readers in the future, you're gonna have to step it up on the design end.

What? You don't like the gadget magazine?

When I do projections, I like to be away form the computer and I like mags for stat reference, depth chart reference, schedule reference, etc....I spend enough time in front of the PC during the season.I like to kick back on the couch with a beer, a couple of mags, any other printed out material I need, and start hammering out projections. Its more relaxing to me to do it that way instead of in front of a computer.

Thats just me though.

PFW is ALWAYS one of em because I like the game-by-game charts at the bottom of each team page.
I buy this for the same reason. It would be a nice addition to the FBG's mag.
 If FBG put those in their mag, Id probably buy just their mag mext year.

Last year I bought the FBG mag & FantasyGuru mag, they were both very good so I plan on buying them both this year. Hopefully my competitin doesn't.

I buy Fantasy Football Pro forcast every year. I love the Weekly stats in the back. It list every player that was active and their stats for every game.

After last year I only buy FFPF and FBGs.

Traitor. fn mutated forehead, Ditka kissin, goat lovin traitor. OK actually I haven't bought a mag in years myself and didn't see FBG mag when I browsed the Barnes n Noble the other day, but did browse ESPN.com's and was surprised it didn't suck, FWIW.

I have traditionally bought FF Index over the years and if I break down and buy one this year, my guess is that'd be it, but who knows......

The first one to hit the stand at my local Borders store was the ESPN mag. I was literally shaking my head in disbelieft at some of the rankings.

This is the mag that you bring to the draft and 'magnanimously' share with the rest of your league mates. If they make picks based on what is printed there, then you are golden.

Historically, I usually buy the FF Pro Forecast. I find it to be pretty reliable and loaded with good stats. Good material to peruse while in the can or by the pool, as well as to have at your draft for all of the handy schedule and stat pages.

Haven't seen the FBG mag at my Borders yet. Looking forward to it.

Every year I buy the Fantasy Football Por Forecast as it usually gives me everything I look for. Even though last year I was somewhat disappointed with it, I'll likely take the plunge this year even though I already bought the FBG mag.
the Forecast is solid!

Fantasy Index is the best,imo..especially the weekly preseason updates..its nothing fancy, but for $6 each, you can't go wrong..I usually get the Forecast and FI, and then hit the websites..

they excel at the sleeper picks and guys flying under the radars of fantasy junkies..

i preorder index. that'll be the end of my magazine purchasing this year. most of my competition gets the index updates & drafts off those lists, so i do as well for market research.

I'll buy one or two other mags more so to valueate where players will be taken by the "average" fan.
:goodposting: Me too! Pro Forecast and Index are the "Big 2" I see at our draft. We have one other guy that brings the updated cheetsheet from here so with those 3 I am pretty set.Personal preference though I like PFW and FBG.

Street and Smiths is a good one but the I bought the PFW one and it is very solid. I like the per game summaries at the bottom of the page. I saw the ESPN and TSN ones yesterday and read part of the TSN one. It was ok but nothing really stood out. I have not seen the FBG one yet.

I would like to see an upgrade in design also. Maybe we can talk. I'm sure cost is an issue, maybe you can publish the Black and white version to newstands and then have a COLOR pdf version for all us computer geeks. (We can print them out ourselves in color). The PDF version would allow you to make tweaks throughout the offseason.(projections - Cuts - Trades, etc.)

Yep, that'd be interesting. That, and Joe and David already have a few web developer/graphic designer types who are on the payroll who might be able to offer some constructive design advice and/or do the lion's share of that design work for them if need be.......:coughcough:

Fantasy Football Index is the Cadillac of fantasy mags.

I always buy 3 to compare and contrast, but I trust FFI the most.

I did just buy the Fantasy Sports piece of trash because it was available, and let me tell you... it eats my ###. Never buying it again.

If joe n dave wanna spend the extra coin and make it glossy and color then I would consider buying it. I only use it for crapper reading anyway as i do all my own rankings etc. I buy Fanball and ESPN becasue there nice to look at pretty much. FFB and FFI might be better info but it just sucks to read and flip through black and white.

seriously If you all made FBG 's color and glossy it would be #1 shortly.

you are going to "consider" buying it if it was glossy and and in color? What are you 8? Isn't the content the stuff that matters to fantasy football guys/girls? Why would color or glossy make you buy it? Obviously your just a casual fantasy football guy.

:lmao: ESPN is glossy and and in color.

Would anyone have any interest in working to create a magazine cheatsheet? Not a rankings compilation -- I know we have that already. I mean a one-page sheet that you could bring to your draft and use to quickly determine what your leaguemates may be thinking based on which magazines they're checking.

Something along the lines of:

Name: NFL.com Fantasy Football

Cover: Shaun Alexander

Design: Red trim, very glossy, yellow ad on back

Ranking oddities:

QB - High on Drew Bledsoe (8), David Carr (9). Low on Drew Brees (19), Brett Favre (17).

RB - Very high on Ronnie Brown (4). Low on Clinton Portis (8). Very low on Edgerrin James (11), Dominick Davis (20).

... etc.

Could be helpful if you're trying to figure out if a guy will slip a round to you?

:hijacked:

Am I the only one who seems to notice that my fellow FBGers are reading fantasy magazines either on the :toilet: or in an airplane?

A bit off topic - but I have called around to a few bookstores in my area (Los Angeles) and they claim they don't have the FBG mag. Anyone know what outlets might be carrying it?

Well put. Cadillac used to be 'the best', and now is middle of the road at best.FF Index is living off their past. Is Rod Smith their #4 rated WR like he was two short years ago?

Everybody knows the best insight is from the web. The magazines are a good way to pass down time. Big Red became a member of the Mile High Club on a recent flight to San Francisco while reading about the Colts in the FootballGuys magazine.

Or Tatum Bell as their Top 5 RB last year?? I am done with those guys. When I knew nothing about FF in '97, they helped me in my initial keeper league draft a solid team (including Jeff Blake in Round 2...LOL), but I have noticed they have a couple of outlandish projections each year. The funny thing is, they are NEVER correct and people laud them for putting their "hearts on their sleeve" and say they are just not "following the herd". Well, if I predicted Curtis Martin would bounce back and have a top 3 performance this year, I would be laughed off the boards... :pickle:   (smilies have nothing to do with the post...I am having breakfast with my 4 year old and she thinks they are funny).

EVERY MAGAZINE makes some bad projections. Every single one. I just find FFI makes the least. Just my opinion though. You do what works for you.For your kid... :hey:

My sons love 'em too. Here's some just for her. :wall: :jawdrop: :sarcasm: :towelwave: :tfp: :brush:

BTW, PFW has been a good source of info for me alongside FBG.

I just picked up the Sporting News FF rag...only one available in the airport...I expect it will suck ###.

I've been an avid reader of FF Index since 1990.

They've had public missteps a la Bell and Rod Smith, but as someone who has been an avid FFer since before these dang intranet days, I think they have a more than solid record. Longevity speaks volumes in this business.

And since we all fancy ourselves "sharks" in the hobby, we also tend to be fickle in turning on the so-called experts. God save Joe and Co. if they ever make a Tatum Bell-esque pick. This board might implode into a cyberspace black hole from the simultaneous collision of venemous attacks and fanboyish defenses.

I can't stand Fanball. Every player profile has to make asinine some pop-culture reference ("Larry Johnson's second half was hotter than Eva Longoria!!!!) or make some comment about Jake Plummer being gay. Ugh. I'd like fantasy football analysis, please. My time on the can is precious.

Fantasy Football Pro Forecast is by far my favorite magazine. I tend to agree with it's rankings more and it comes out later than all the other magazines, making it a bit more accurate. It has VBD numbers for each player, for those that don't calculate ones based on their leagues scoring system. All color, but not glossy for the nancy boys. (comes out in early July)

FBG is the 2nd best mag.(FBG #1 website and FFPF's footballdiehards.com #2)

Profootball Weekly is known for great NFL info and clueless when it comes to FF advice.

Fantasy index sounds like Draft Sharks.com, making some unique picks. I got burned too many times following Draftshark advice and once a majority of their info became subscription I never went back.
