not as of yesterday.So....is the PFW FF mag on news stands yet????
i used Draftsharks a few years ago. the first year the info was really solid....so i went back the following year. the following year, they were absolutely horrid, i think Lenny Pappano was sick with mono for a month going into the season which really hurt their effort and going into the season it never recovered.after that year, i came over to the fine folks at FBG and expect to stick around for a while.Draft Sharks.com, making some unique picks. I got burned too many times following Draftshark advice and once a majority of their info became subscription I never went back.
as of today it is on the stand at the store i was just in.kind of a PFW / CBS Sportsline combination magazine. (Cover: Larry Johnson)not as of yesterday.So....is the PFW FF mag on news stands yet????
Damn, it wasnt in my local Barnes and Noble todayas of today it is on the stand at the store i was just in.kind of a PFW / CBS Sportsline combination magazine. (Cover: Larry Johnson)not as of yesterday.So....is the PFW FF mag on news stands yet????
I'm actually liking this magazine, not a bad read. Its called Fantasy Football Weekly by Fanball.com. It has Steve Smith on the cover.Just got the Fanball magazine yesterday. Haven't had a chance to see if its decent or not, but it definately looks attractive. Full color, and a nice layout. I don't agree with some of the rankings(as with most magazines), but better then what i've seen out of both ESPN and NFL.com so far.
edit: oh and their mock draft is a joke.
Guru a great mag! Will get it again this year. Should be out this weekLast year I bought the FBG mag & FantasyGuru mag, they were both very good so I plan on buying them both this year. Hopefully my competitin doesn't.
The guru is a solid mag but last year I felt they hyped Kevin Jones a little too much.Guru a great mag! Will get it again this year. Based on past history, I expect it'll be on the newstands Wednesday...Thursday at the latest. It's the only one I buy. Miss Joe's OL article but glad FBG's participates in the magazine's expert contest.Just picked up FF Authority. Big fan of it, none of the typical regurgitated information found in the other rags. Solid analysis. Other than the FBG mag, its the only one I'll buy.
don't forget when "Joe & co" ranked Kevin Barlow as top 5 RB. even he makes fun of himself on that one. everyone "reaches" with thsoe predictions. I do like FBG mag. anf FF indexI've been an avid reader of FF Index since 1990.
They've had public missteps a la Bell and Rod Smith, but as someone who has been an avid FFer since before these dang intranet days, I think they have a more than solid record. Longevity speaks volumes in this business.
And since we all fancy ourselves "sharks" in the hobby, we also tend to be fickle in turning on the so-called experts. God save Joe and Co. if they ever make a Tatum Bell-esque pick. This board might implode into a cyberspace black hole from the simultaneous collision of venemous attacks and fanboyish defenses.
I can't stand Fanball. Every player profile has to make asinine some pop-culture reference ("Larry Johnson's second half was hotter than Eva Longoria!!!!) or make some comment about Jake Plummer being gay. Ugh. I'd like fantasy football analysis, please. My time on the can is precious.
This is why I've never looked into the magazines as well - I prefer the currency of info in the 'net. And I don't needUnless I need a little material for the plane or takin' care of a little business in the bathroom, I've had a hard time justifying the $$$ to buy a magazine when it's outdated the nano-second it comes off the presses. If I were to buy any fantasy football magazines out there though, FBGs would be it! I just have a hard time paying money for anything in print that is also available online for a fraction of the price (or free)....updated on a daily basis. But that's just me.I can't see a need to buy ANY magazine, even the FBG one. What info is in the FBG magazine, let alone one of the others, that I can't find here with the internet subscription?
The magazine led me to this site, and after I found it, I gave the magazine away to a rookie draftor who could make better use of it.
No offense to FBG, because the magazine was wonderful, but I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase of ANY magazine with so much more (and more current) info available on the Internet!![]()
(edited for spelling)
I was interested to see if they were going to aknowledge their Tatum Bell fiasco of last year. They did. I liked that. Take a risk and admit if they are wrong.I like Index because they list the IDP grouped together as starters with their stats from last year. Can be useful if you're sitting there at the draft flipping through pages.Fantasy Football Index is the Cadillac of fantasy mags.
I always buy 3 to compare and contrast, but I trust FFI the most.
I did just buy the Fantasy Sports piece of trash because it was available, and let me tell you... it eats my ###. Never buying it again.
I also always get Index and Pro Forecast. I don't think I'll ever buy the FBG mag. As a subscriber to the website, it would seem to be putting too many eggs in the same basket to pick up the FBG magazine. The two that I always get (well, three now that FBG has a mag) are Index and Pro Forecast. I've found that they've always been pretty good reads (IIRC, Pro Forecast was where I first read an article about VBD, circa '97).
Plus their past reputation is all they've got to hang their helmet on imho....As a long-time FF player, I appreciate FF Index's 20-year anniversary section this year. Nice to see historical perspective in what is a pretty ephemeral "sport."
It is due out on July 1, but I have not seen it yet. I ordered it online for the newsstand price, no tax and the shipping is included. FantasyIndex.comI've seen severalfor the Fantasy Football Index magazine. I looked at Barnes & Noble and Books A Million, and while they had a ton of choices neither had FFI. Does anyone know if it's on the shelf yet? Or if not, when?
I think FFI is the best out there. Ian Allan's a heckuva writer. Their 20th anniversary issue (got it in the mail already) has a lot of cool extra stuff. I couldn't agree more on the cheesiness of Fanball, as described above. It's torturous to listen to someone who thinks they're funny but really isn't. And they never stop with the sthick - it's like watching a really bad episode of Sports Center.I've been an avid reader of FF Index since 1990.

Have been a fan myself but disagree on the last part. I buy a mag based on how good it appears to be THAT year. I really don't care much (if at all) how it was in past years.I've been an avid reader of FF Index since 1990.

Maybe that's because we're calling it like we see it. If some "experts" make what IMO is a bad/highly questionable pick or ranking, why walk on eggshells? And since we all fancy ourselves "sharks" in the hobby, we also tend to be fickle in turning on the so-called experts. God save Joe and Co. if they ever make a Tatum Bell-esque pick.
I agree but didn't get the impression they were all that bad about it. TSN was though.I can't stand Fanball. What does that mean? Magazines need inaccurate projections to make you think? Other mags didn't rate anyone high/low so they didn't give you anything to think about? Note: I like FF Index and will buy it when I see it on the news stand. Just trying to figure out what it is that makes the other mags stink. The Index ranking Bell and Rod Smith so high last year to me is a positive. I didn't go with it, but it gave me something to think about. That's why the other rags stink.
Most other mags simply regurgitate last year's final statistics and present them as forecast for this year. FFI goes out on limbs more often. And yes, sometimes they whiff big time on guys (Bell, Rod Smith, Santana Moss a few years ago) but even they aren't above reproach. There's a section in this year's FFI dedicated to bad projections, and they poke fun of themselves for those. What does that mean? Magazines need inaccurate projections to make you think?
