The Red Wave Thread - A place where Politics Forum conservatives celebrate and anticipate the impending wave! (1 Viewer)

We should like throw a couple of bucks in a hat and guess how many seats in the House and Senate the Republicans pick up.

We know there will be a wave, just don't know if it will be regular surf able wave or a tsunami.

If the 2021 elections were any indication of the displeasure with Democrats, even looking past the VA results, NJ where Biden won by 16%, there were major gains made by Republicans even against Phil Murhphy who had 70% approval ratings in 2020 and 54% approval ratings going into the 2021 election.  That same election saw the most powerful State Senate Democrat lose to a Republican truck driver who spent like $200 on his campaign.

The polling numbers right now are worse than the first Obama mid-terms when Dems lost 64 House and 5 Senate seats.  For 2022, my conservative guess, I think Republicans will get in the 240 range (+30ish) for the House and 52-53 (+2ish) range for Senate.

The entire Steele Dossier investigation was bad faith.  The Ukraine impeachment proceedings were bad faith.  The Kavanaugh confirmation hearings were bad faith.

Steele Dossier - I agree - mostly.  I think there was enough smoke to warrant a legitimate behind-the-scenes investigation, but that this was probably a narrative pushed by Clinton Democrats.  Trump's adoration of Putin, and other strongmen, did not really help his cause though.

Ukraine impeachment - disagree here - this was pretty clearly an attempt by Trump, and his people, to use international diplomacy to generate dirt on a political opponent.  That's no bueno.  And, even a step further than the Clinton's using the Steele Dossier to go after Trump.  That is a pretty clear case of abuse of power in office - the kind of thing that impeachment is designed to keep in check.

Kavanaugh - yes and no.  My view is that he is a bad jurist, does not have the temperament to be a fair and impartial Justice.  The sex assault charges - even if true - were probably a stretch though - given the evidence that was available.  I think a bigger concern, and required a much deeper investigation - who paid off his debt, and who encouraged Kennedy to step down...

Dems are much better being the opposition party rather the governing party.

Like their tactics or not their goal was to disrupt and resist Trumps agenda in any way possible and they did that for the most part. Now Dems are getting disrupted from inside their own party.

Right now that's a pretty good estimate imho.  However, IF covid chills out and IF inflation normalizes over the next 7 months I can see the dems pulling some of that back.  Not enough to prevent losing the House but maybe enough to maintain a tie in the Senate.

The actual Russian investigation was not in bad faith.  The Ukraine impeachment not in bad faith.  Some of the Kavanaugh stuff was (similarly...the same is true of some of the defense of him and the way McConnell handled Garland and many other appointees that never came close to even getting a hearing).

But these points...pretty weak calling those things bad faith.  In fact...its quite clear the GOP was acting in bad faith in refusing to participate and do their jobs in those investigations and impeachment.  Just kick the can down the road and stall hoping it goes away was not in good faith.
