I know he'll be out for the beginning of next season, but the more I think about it, the more I think Green Bay isn't quite so bad off at WR. A trio of Driver, Jennings, and Robinson is quite solid. If they can find a way to improve at TE, this could be a very, very potent offense.
A couple things:
Robinson is certainly a wildcard, but I think Thompson does indeed roll the dice with him again next season.
With Robinson on the horizon, I think Favre's decision to return might be much easier to make. He'll have a pretty good group of experienced receivers.
I fail to see how a receiver who dropsied and drank his way off two teams inspires confidence. He got a probowl nod for special teams, wow. So did Alex Bannister and you don't see anyone staving offf retirement for him. He has never proven himself to be a reliable WR, nor as a relliable teammate or human being. He's lucky he isn't in the Leonard Little Vehicular Manslughterer Club and after years of defending him as a Seahawk I can tell you that he CANNOT CATCH THE BALL. I'm sure the Pack will retain his services if not for ST alone but he is so far from a reliable receiver it's laughable.
You sound bitter. Best I can tell, from listening to Favre talk early in the season, is he really thinks Robinson can help this team. He's been a very vocal supporter of Robinson, and I'd guess both Thompson and Favre would welcome him back. As to his history in Seattle. Thompson knows him better than most. And frankly, I was impressed with a few catches Robinson made this season. Favre looked to him in a big spot or two, especially on third and long. Robinson delivered with some nice catches.
I didn't say he'd be a great receiver. But with Driver, Jennings another year experienced, and Robinson? That's a very nice group.
Here's what you said "
With Robinson on the horizon, I think Favre's decision to return might be much easier to make". Not Jennings or Driver, you were referring to Robinson being the big catalyst for return. I know you mentioned them, but that wasn't your point.I'm not bitter, I'm realistic about it. Favre can think all he wants about it but the fact remains that for every two good catches he has, he will drop one. And don't forget abouyt his history as a Viking, last December he stone handed one into the arms of a defender, ending their chances to win. They counted on him and he failed as he has time and time again.
Holmgren was a very vocal supporter of KR's too, and he cut him. Why? Because KR is a bust. He is a liability. As soon as he lulls you into trusting him with hard catches he'll drop easy TDs and first downs or tip them into the defender's hands. It's what he does. And that's IF he stays sober enough to be allowed onto a football field. You might remember just prior to the season he was reporting back to rehab not for a relapse but to make sure he was "bullet proof". Then another DUI...
And IIRC, Favre also "thought", at the beginning of the season, that this year's Packer team was the most talented of all. Clearly he's a bt off with his assessment of talent.
