The ULTIMATE last-minute $30 gift (1 Viewer)

I received my heli and charged it up. This thing doesn't fly worth a damn. Will not hover, it's either going up or down. Maybe I got a bad one. I have read about people taking the spring out of the throttle controller so that it doesn't spring back, but mine is free floating with no spring.

It does seem pretty durable after plenty of hard collisions.
WTF? We both ordered on the same day?

hopefully mine won't suck

I did order another one that I was planning to mod. I will give that one a shot to see how it flies. I got one each for my kids a couple of years ago and was amazed at how easy they flew. Could also be the lights in my place.

Bought one last year and something seemed to break where the top and bottom blades hit each other. The top blades droop down too much. So I bought the complete repair kit and looking through that the parts all seem to be intact and nothing broken. Puzzling. Anyway, I bought another one.

Popped for a couple of these for the office party. Figure they are worth that much just to see them whizzing around for a few days until destruction.

I bought another one for our office white elephant gift exchange. Was a big hit and ended up being the only thing "stolen" twice.

I noticed the new remotes don't have the spring on the left stick. Kind of bummed because I guess I'm used to it so it's easier for me to fly with the spring than without.

Little known fact... if you don't like tiny robo choppers, you don't have a soul.

These things would make Clint Eastwood giggle like a schoolgirl.

It was just me (pilot error). My son flew it around last night without a problem. The first charge on the battery acted like it was super-charged. Any little blip on the throttle would send it to the ceiling. Much better after it has been charged and discharged a couple of times.

Just had a couple of uninterrupted 2-3 minute flights.

Still crashed a couple of times, but again, it is on me. I thought a couple of the crashes would have busted it up, but it has kept on ticking.

the usb interface to charge is nice. Will any harm come to the battery just leaving it plugged in when not in use?

Got one for my son. Most played with toy so far this Christmas. I am hoping the family gets the hint and gets me one for my birthday in two weeks.

So I got five for everyone in my family for battle choppers. Performing ok but mine only maintains altitude for a minute or two then drops to ground level where it hovers. It's like it's too heavy. Any hints here? I have the apache version.

Never used the Apache version but when they struggle to hold altitude it means the battery is tired and needs to be charged. Seems like you might have a defective battery if that is it's maximum capacity. You sure you're giving it a full charge?

Related Note: It's generally not a good idea to run these LiPo batteries till they're dead. When they start fighting to hold altitude that's when it's time to land them and plug them in.

Yeah, it was full both times. :(

Thanks again for the heads up on these ICON.

There is a ton of info, mods and parts out there. I came across this battery mod. The charger is a bit pricey, but the batteries are cheap. You could get pretty close to continues flight with 6-8 batteries. (4 charging, while 4 are used in succession)

So the 2nd one we got is a red one and I noticed it's built slightly better this year. There are 2 little stabilizers that clip between the 2 props. Noticing that I looked to see if they also had them in the repair kit I bought which might help the old yeller one fly. Clipped them on and yep.. yellow one is fixed. So now we have 2.

Is it a crapshoot whether you get one that operates on channel A or B? Both of mine are channel A unfortunately.

Bought a POS RC copter at Ross or Marshall's or something. Sucks. Zero control. Might need to pony up and get the Syma

You can do this also, it easier:

1. Turn on first transmitter on chan A

2. Turn on the first heli

3. Make sure they are binded

4. Turn off transmitter A

5. Turn on second transmitter on chan B

6. Turn on second heli

7. Make sure they are binded

8. Re-Turn on first tansmitter

9. Voila

They're infra-red controlled.

This thing is awesome - me and my oldest son are having a blast playing with this. Love the size - we fly it inside and mess with the dogs and my wife. Great fun. Plan to get a few more.

Or turn them on in separate rooms, with one set to A and one set to B.

Unrelated: One of our copters needed a little work, as a pair of gears wasn't lined up well enough. Easy enough to fix though.
